I've been on Paxil for approximately seven years, starting at 60mg and tapering down to 30mg as of two years ago. I'm still on that dose. I've experienced the withdrawal symptoms before, when I've forgotten to take my medicine, as well as when I've been in the process of decreasing my dose, but lately, I've been feeling the withdrawal symptoms when I have been taking my medicine regularly.
I stopped taking my Paxil CR 25mg approx 3 weeks ago due to loss of insurance and job. I had been taking them for over 2 years and before that I took other anti-depressants for several years. Since stopping the pills I have been experiencing insomnia and "dizzy spells". The spells last about 1 second, can occur when I take a deep breath, or move my eyes fast, among other reasons,and happen 50+ times per day. I feel this is a direct effect from stopping the pills.
I have a question, and I don't know if it has anything to do with the paxil I took several years ago. Okay, here's the story. I took Paxil in 2005 for about 3 months. One day, I took paxil, but then I don't know, out of the blue, I wanted to masturbate. I didn't masturbate for awhile, so I just wanna do it. I took the paxil as usual, then masturbate like a few hours later. I did not feel any nervousness after masturbating. However, I had the headaches as usual.
I was still having some depression/anxiety issues so I saw a psychiatrist who changed me to wellbutrin 200mg twice a day and weaning off the paxil. I have been taking 10 mg of paxil for the last month and now am taking it every other day to wean off. In the last few days I have been so dizzy to the point of almost falling down and not sleeping well at night with crazy dreams. Is this all do to the new medicine or could it be something else.
I've been on Paxil, i.e. Paroxetine for about 6 years now. I ran out about 5 days ago. As has happened in the past after quitting Paxil my sleep is interrupted with such stressful nightmares. I mean I wake up and I am either screaming and my heart rate goes sky high. I am a about 3 days from when i can get another refill. I don't think i can make it and have so much to do this week during the day. When I call my doctors office and especially on call, they go berzerk.
Ditto! Paxil pretty much helped with my anxiety which was why I was prescribed it by my Dr. But after 6 years it peetered out and I thought that I could stop and be fine, wrong. After a month I was a wreck and I am not sure if my body was so used to the drug or I was really depressed.

The snris are also like this, but still, some people do find taking them helps with anxiety because anxiety very often comes from depression. Wellbutrin, in other words, is not a better antidepressant than Paxil, just different; Paxil was in fact approved for depression treatment and was then used later for anxiety, as have most antidepressants. Sometimes they work for a person, sometimes they don't. Secondly, all drugs that affect sleep affect REM sleep.
Yesterday I took my first dose of Paxil. I was prescribed 20 mg but only took half. I took it around 6 pm. I have been feeling really sick all night and morning. I have diarrhea, severe nausea, dizziness, INCREASED anxiety, shaking and insomnia. It's weird because I feel sleepy but everytime I almost fall asleep I have severe anxiety feeling in my sleep and wake up shaking or I have weird dreams. Is all of this normal?
i tapered off going from 30 mg for 20 years to 15 for a couple years to every other day at 15 for a couple months, then i went to see my 'addiction' doctor who said there was no need for me to continue the slow gradual slide, but that i should "just quit. stop." so, even though i was experiencing an increase in emotionality and sweating, especially when i "feel" something strongly. i did it.
It was scary like you ar about to dream or sleep but not there yet but decide to get up but cant at first like you cant move What is this. I am going to go back on. The slushy feeling I can deal with.
I have been taking paxil for about a month. The first couple days I first started taking it I had a panic attack and then a few hours later a felt very good. Then eventually my moods were just more calm, relaxed and stable. This past week I have been experiencing some bad symptoms. I have been having night terrors, I twitch and have tremors in the day time, I feel extreme fatigue, anxiety, muscle weakness and stiff. I have this weird sensation throughout my body.
My doctor swiched me from Paxil to Bupropion Sr. last week and He said that thier was no need to ween myself off of the Paxil. So I started the Bupropion Sr at 150mg once a day for 4 days and then was to go on to two a day, Well since I started the drug. I have been very dizzy and if I move my head to fast I feel like a jolt in my vision. I told my doctor and he suggested to stay on the one a day for another week. I also have lost a pound a day since starting the drug.
My daughter is 11 . She has been taking paxil 5 mg for 7 months. She asked to be taken off when she realized she missed a pill and felt fine. We have started the long withdrawl process. She has been taking 5 mg every other day for 2 months (i want to go slow because she is so afraid she may have a panic attack at school). The main problem is that she is having trouble sleeping. She describes it as waking up and can't go back to sleep.
but I had all the same symptoms such as increased anxiety, vivid (and really strange) dreams, shaky, and EXTREMELY nausious. Ive never taken Paxil but all of these medications have very similar side effects. Call your doctor if your symptoms do not lessen in a few days, or if you just want re assurance.
I have not been able to sleep for the past 3 nights. I have had vivid dreams, including one of the greatest sexual epics imagineable. But this is bad; so I just took a 20mg pill. I'll continue to try it on my own, but slower. But no more of these pills unless it is life or death.
I would urge others to consult their Dr (firmly) about weaning-off these (if they want to), and not taking "I would not recommend that" for an answer.
I've been given Paxil ( praxitine ) to treat anxiety been on it for 8 days now today is really bad sweating hands feet, trembling, heart palls, breathing is an issue at times too . Could these meds actually be making me worse or is this part in parcel of taking antidepressants in the early stages ? I'm on 20 mg a day taken in the morning .... It's like this wave of fear comes over me and I feel so faint on this stuff ...
I have been weaning off of Paxil for a week now. I was prescribed Paxil as a smoking cessation substitute for Wellbutrin which was giving me side effects that included rapid heart palputations, etc. Hence, after 7 years of refills of Paxil, I was still smoking, drinking more alcohol, eating more and was very complacent in this world of overindulgence.
I decided it was time to "WAKE UP" again; before I became an oversized alcoholic.
I know I hate the withdrawl symptoms. Have you tried talking to your dr. about another med that has less 'decreased sexual' side effects? and start that med it will then decrease the withdrawl from paxil. How are feeling - depressed, anxious, nauseous, etc.? I'll try finding out how long paxil stays in your system. Hang in there, your brain will start making serintonin to replace the paxil. keep talking to us. it helps.
It might help with the restless thoughts. I got vivid dreams on Paxil, but I kind of liked them, and I get some nightmares on Lexapro, at least those rare nights when I can get into a deep enough sleep for them, but nightmares are just your brain shedding superfluous matter, nothing to worry about. They also make for good short stories, if you're into that kind of thing.
