He put me on Nexium 40mg twice a day for the reflux, but he never told me what was causing the pain when I wake up in the morning. I do have bad disc in my lower back, but I don't know if that would cause this pain. I have been TRYING to eat right , but it hard. I just wish I knew what is causing this pain. Any ideas or answers would be appreciated.
I infrequently have stomach pain, pop a nexium, and its like a magic bullet. Not only cures the pain, but I have the best dreams and generally well being feeling. I was thinking that the stress of life leads to acid production and that the nexium fixes (tricks) the brain into thinking more positive thoughts or whatever, thereby stopping the cycle of stress and acid production. Anyway, it really works well for me.
After suffering from ibs symptoms for about 6 months I ended up in outpatients at the hospital one day with severe stomach pain. Another heap of test and they sent me home with a script for nexium and mylanta. Slowly the symptoms subsided but have continually come back worse and worse every time. I have just had a full blood work including thyroid and gastroscopy! But all was fine. Except my b12 levels.
For 6 months, I have been experiencing stomach pain, gas & occasion diarrhea. I have seen my primary physician and a gastro specialist. I have had an ultra-sound, endoscopy, cat scan and colonoscopy. Nothing significant has shown up and I still have the same symptoms. Nexium was prescribed. Any advice?
Each of the PPIs is made to work on a slightly different step in the chain of making acid and secreting that acid into the stomach. Whether or not one med works better for a single individual will depend on how well it 'recognizes' and inhibits that step of the chain in your system. For some people nexium may work more effectively, or others it would be one of the others made by a different drug company.
2013 March - They found that I have H Pylori infection and treated me 3 times with nexium antibiotic treatment. Still the sensation of sqeezing in stomach, heart or chest pain existed and still continuing.Endoscopy and Colono scopy were done and everything looked normal. Continuing Nexium treatment.Fatty liver and fatty pancreas diagnosed.
2014 March - Endoscopy, CT Scan and Ultra sound were done.Results say Gastric antrum mild chronic inflammation, fatty liver and pancreas.
So I did not take my dose of Nexium today and the heartburn was terrible! I haven't felt such pain for a long time. I finally gave in by 5pm and took my Nexium. I think I will stay on it at least for now.
Has this happened to anyone else?

Have been waking up every morning with a burning pain in my stomach that seems to move to both sides under my rib cages. It feels like my gut is on fire. I have had a number of test. I have a Hiatal Hernia, GERDS, Barrett's Esophagus, and Diverticulitus. This burning pain is something new, it started about two weeks ago. I also have an anxiety problem and take Xanax 1mg. and Nexium 40mg for the GERDS.
Pleasures like milk, ice cream, yogurt, all contain Calcium, and cause your stomach to secrete stomach acid. If you do try these treats, stop it for a night or two and decide whether the dairy products turn-on your stomach- acid pumps.

I went back to see him last year and told him about the pain in my stomach and back and he just felt around my stomach and said, your fine. Its anxiety ! He said, stress and anxiety disorders can make things feel ten times worse then they really are, stop worrying. See you next year. I haven't lost any weight in fact I put on about 10lbs. since I last seen him. No my stools aren't dark, in fact they are a light brown. He already told me that was normal.
If maybe I could get a diet for this type of thing so i knew what kinds of foods that would be best for his stomach and or a better diagnosis. Could this be IBS? We will be following up with a G.I. some time in the begining of next month but with most of the doctors we see they do not care to look further into this and just listen to his symptoms and give him whatever and send him on his way.
The only relief that I get from the chest pressure is to lie on my stomach (weird right). When my doc put me on nexium I felt great for about 4 days, the pressure came back and is still with me today. If figure if something was "serious" I would have died by now, this is simply annoying, I compare it to a toothache that wont go away. I have tried, acetominophen, NSAID and motrin (no relief). I have been thru Internists, Cardiologist and Chiropractor. Nothing yet.
I had civir stomach pain, my husband took me to hospital. They gave me nexium and the pain went. I saw my doctor and he checked fir heliocabactor, negative. Nothing showed up on ultrasound. He reckons my stomach lining is inflamed due to much acid and put me on nexium 40 for 2 weeks and then on nexium 20. As I got pain I took a 40 instead of 20 yesterday and expierienced side affects pretty civir: nausea, digestion 3 times worse then before, gas, headaches.

As she has low stomach acid (most non obstuctive GERD is due to low acid), she also took betaine HCI with pepsin to increase stomach acid. She took too much of this supplement and had a lot of pain for 3 days (the pain was due to severe gastritis) but after that no problems. Can't say if she had a rebound effect after all that drama lol. Anyway, within a few weeks GERD and LPR were gone (had both severely for 5 years) and over a year later, 95% gastritis improved (had this for 25 years).
I have to use heat packs to help with the severe pain I get and I pass blood in my stool. I had none of this until I was put on Nexium for 4 years!!
And my tongue is discolored and dry I do believe nexium caused all my medical problems. Since I stopped the nexium my tongue does look a little better. Still dry and rough looking and discolored but looks better then it did. I called the FDA and they are sending me out a form called med allert to fill out.
Thanks for your reply, we've talked before. I agree with all you have said, and have tried it all. I mean ALL. My problem is that at times my system doesn't produce enough acid, and sometimes too much.
Numerous doctors have given up. It just goes in never ending circles. Ulcers flare and then settle down and it's when it all 'flares' that I decide life isn't worth living and desperately try something new.
