Avatar f tn And yes, I do notice when I miss a dose of either one. Are you taking Neurontin for neuropathic pain? You definitely have room to increase. Talk to your doc. You might also want to consider adding nortriptyline or amitriptyline to enhance treatment of your symptoms, again, if it is pain you're taking it for.
Avatar n tn Hello, I was looking for some treatment options for General Neuropathic Pain as the only diagnosis my dr can provide me after negative EMGs both upper and lower extremeties and complete work up including MRIs, bone scans, x-rays, and blood tests. My pain is debilitating sciatica like in both legs and ulnar nerve pain in both arms from shoulder down to the pinky fingers which feels like tightness in so many muscle groups. Pain for 2 years without answer or any treatment to help.
758281 tn?1234115374 ), that should be helping the pain if it is neuropathic. Also, neuropathic pain arises from nerves, and not from injury to the actual sites of the pain. You do have visible injuries there, swelling and discoloration. From another perspective, though, maybe this really is from MS, but it isn't neuropathic, it's from the spasms. If you are having major muscle spasms, that could really injure your feet, possibly causing swelling and bruising.
Avatar m tn I suffer from constant pain - pain specialists here have tried injections - burning the nerve, botox and every possible drug - Lyrica, indomethacin, neurontin, dilantin, elavil - opiates make it worse (trileptal was the only one that helped but lowered my sodium to 118 within 48 hours at just 300 mgs a day) 3 neurologists have suggested just living life out on klonopin but i refuse (high gaba covers the pain - ironic - depakote and tomomax make it worse.
Avatar f tn It was once heavily marketed to pain cliinics for treatment of neuropathic pain, and is still used for that purpose. But it was also marketed (illegally, according to the FDA) as a mood stabilizer, even though there are no good studies showing it is effective treatment for bipolar disorder. The company that makes the drug was hit with t large fine about ten years ago for taking docs to the Caribbean and giving them lectures and marketing pitches... the NY Times had some big article on it .
Avatar m tn Hello, I am a 38 year old female. I have bad back pain ( anywhere in back), shoulder pain and pain in right breast (normally in the same area) Have had some blood tests done and it did come back that i was b12 deficient. Not too sure what would be causing all the pain though.
1310035 tn?1305621642 Sorry if there was some sort of misunderstanding, not sure how that happened?? but i never said or implied anything about pain management (clinics/centres/doctors or what ever) only prescribing narcotics. The only thing I actually said was "So my advice is to try and stay away from the pain meds that are easily addictive and talk to your dr about neuropathic pain drugs instead.
Avatar f tn It has always been very effective in treating other forms of neuropathic pain. Neurontin has been demonstrated to reduce the symptoms from periodic leg movements during sleep (PLMS) also known as restless leg syndrome but dosing up to 2400 mg per day may be required. This drug is also widely used in the prevention of migraines and the list goes on. Many of our members take Neurontin, indeed some claim it is extremely effective. It certainly has been for my mother.
Avatar m tn As with other conditions, medications that were originally invented for other purposes are useful for pain. This is true of neurontin and lyrica which were originally invented for seizures. Lyrica is similar to neurontin but has less side effects and often people who can not tolerate neurontin benefit from lyrica. However it is more expensive.
Avatar n tn Topical doxepin and caspasin cream are also helpful for neuropathic itching. Anti-seizure medications found to be useful for neuropathic itching include neurontin and lyrica. It is very important that in neuropathic itching narcotics such as dilaudid, vicodin, percocet etc be avoided as these are well known to cause itching as a side effect and to worsen neuropathic itching. I recommend you continue to follow-up with your neurologist regarding the optimal treatment of your symptoms.
Avatar f tn ve found is that with several of these patients, part of the pain is neuropathic in origin (pain due to damage to nerves because of the mastectomy). Addition of another drug which directly controls neuropathic pain, such as gabapentin (Neurontin) or pregabalin (Lyrica) usually eases the symptom. This may work for you. You can use heating pads, for as long as you do not apply excessive heat and macerate the tissue surrounding the wound.
630344 tn?1280104983 I do not have a diagnosis of fibro, but I have chronic Lyme disease and myofascial pain syndrome, so I have a lot of symptom overlap. I find that neurontin is helpful in covering up some of the neuropathic pain associated with my illnesses. It will do nothing for muscle pain, just like how NSAIDs (like Advil) will do nothing for nerve pain. Also, as my doctor described it to me, it can take awhile to hit the right dosage with neurontin.
Avatar f tn Hi, There are many different classes of drugs used in the treatment of neuropathic pain. These include NSAIDs, opiods, anticonvulsant and antidepressant drugs. What was the ************** offered to you? Which drugs were you not able to tolerate? TENS and RFA have not been effective for you. Another option is implantable devices/pumps. Sometimes alternative therapies like acupuncture, biofeedback may be helpful.
1983221 tn?1333506185 I take both gabapentin and amitriptilyne (Elavil) for my neuropathic foot pain. I started with 300mg gabapentin and worked my way up to 3600mg. I take 1200mg 3X/day. By itself it didn't do that much for my pain. We added 25mg amitriptilyne to the gabapentin and I saw some relief. We upped it to 50mg 1X/day and my pain was gone completely! I guess I'm luck not to have any side effects from either drug.
382218 tn?1341181487 When I was taking Lyrica, I had better success with morning and night dosing (150 mg each). When I tried to add an afternoon dose(100 mg) I found that the increase in fatigue from the Lyrica coupled with my usual afternoon fatigue made it extremely hard to drive the 45 minutes to an hour home in rush hour traffic. For exacerbations of leg pain I tried a 50mg dose at lunchtime but it didn't help with the neuropathic pain and simply made me unable to focus and concentrate.
Avatar f tn My neurologist said that MRI was fine other than a small venous angioma and seemed to think my headaches (continuous for two months) are caused by neck and muscle problems. He put me on neurontin which has greatly improved my headaches but I've already gained six pounds in three weeks. Besides that I feel like I'm in a fog, forgetful, and generally kind of "duh huh" feeling. I can't take Topomax because of glaucoma.
1221035 tn?1301000508 I can sit for up to 5-7 minutes before a flow begins. Not sure if it is the neurontin or a pain medication. I have nerve damage and need both medications.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know of any treatment other than steroids for retrobulbar optic neuritis? Steroids work in reverse for me and have been tried a few times over the last 20 years of having MS. This round doesn't impact my vision, but causes pain behind my right eye on any movement and pain in my left upper eyelid upon touch.
Avatar f tn I have been having extreme burning sensation down my right pinky finger and middle knuckle and wrist an terrible aching pain to go along with it in my right hand wrist and fore arm .. What is this? It is terrible!
Avatar f tn I have diabetes, peripheral neuropathy, chronic bronchitis, COPD, hiatal hernia, GERD, restless leg syndrome, arthritic cervical spondylosis, alergies, ADD (my primary care dr says), but have never been diagnosed with it. It makes sense, however, as when in school and even now, I will be talking about one subject and will constantly go off on another completely different subject. My attention span is very short and always has been.
