Common Questions and Answers about Neck pain relief traction device

neck

Avatar m tn I was put on steroids for 10 days and during that time, the frequent migraines I have been suffering from for years were completely absent. As soon as the steroids wore off, the pain in my neck and the migraines returned. Could the migraines be related to my spinal stenosis, or did the steroids inadvertantly provide relief for my migraines?
Avatar f tn Surgery is an option, but relief comes from anti-inflammatories like Advil. I also have a home traction device - goes over the door - pulls my neck up gently. It feels great! You can get this at most drug stores that stock ambulatory items. Hope it helps!
Avatar n tn Some physiotherapy exercises can also be carried out under the supervision of a doctor for faster relief. Talk to your doctor about your pain management since he is in a better position to assess your condition and give the right treatment suited for you. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, I found out that i have worsening instability which may be the reason for the return of some of my symptoms. For those of you with CCI, or had a fusion for CCI, what was your neck pain like. My doctor wanted me to try physical therapy including cervical traction. I'm not sure if i slept wrong one day or not but I have a lot of neck pain when I turn side to side and look up. The pain seems to be at the middle and base of my neck and is very sharp.
5619229 tn?1371051348 If there is no other cause and axial traction works movement through the limits of pain together with use of an axial traction device (about $35) is usually recommended. Generally this is referred pain along a dermatome. Usually, but not always it is due to nerve compression in the cervical area secondary to an incident a long time ago where the head was moved forcefully foward or backward. Pain medications won't work, however anti-inflammatories will.
Avatar f tn Thank you. I may try Steroids and an over-the- door traction device, if that is what you are referring to. I have been advised by my chiropractor that using a traction device daily could ease the pressure, and your suggestion reminded me just now about his suggestion. Thank you.
Avatar n tn The answer is that these injuries may be life-long, and years later, every week or month or so when the pain starts, you have to get out the axial traction device and use it for s few minutes two or three times a day. You can do this at work. The devices come with a water bag, which you discard. There is a head strap that attaches to a horizontal bar that has a center hook. A rope attaches the center hook to a cup-hool in the opper beam of a doorway, for example.
Avatar n tn An axial traction device must be purchased (about $35) and used for ten or twelve minutes every hour or so initially, then the intervals are lengthened over a period of weeks. Ibuprufin should be taken at the same time to reduce inflammation. If you let this go, you will likely end up with what is called a "frozen shoulder" and chronic pain. Keep well hydrated. The liklihood is the symptoms will disappear after a few weeks of axial traction.
1415563 tn?1281998836 After a period of traction range of motion exercises through the limits of pain are necessary. This seems contrary to common sense, because normally you think that "pain" tells me I will cause injury if I move my head in such a way as to induce pain. If you don't do this you will begin to "self-splint" and the range of motion you have will become increasingly limited.
Avatar f tn Axial traction is best performed for short periods, of from three to ten minutes with an hour or so between treatments, for the entire day to start. Ten to fifteen sessions the first day. In addition to the traction "range of motion" exercises are necessary, through the limits of pain. This will be the hardest part. Usually, at the beginning, an anti-inflammatory such as prednisone (oral - 20-25 mg per 100 lbs)) is administered, or Ibuprufin. The traction devices cost $35-$40 U.S.
Avatar f tn massage and neck traction will help you to relieve pain in your neck , there is lot of topics, video exercie and device to do that
Avatar n tn There are ointments that can relieve the pain and help the muscles relax. A pain reliever such as Aleve can provide immediate relief. The pain can also be a sign of something much worse, however. It's always best to have his doctor check it out!
Avatar m tn And range-of-motion exercises through the limits of pain. You can purchase an axial traction device for about $35 without a prescription. Throw away the rubber water bag and set it up to gently lower yourself over a chair, but not go into full suspension. Forceful manipulation of the head through the limits of pain should be considered, done by a physician (not a chiropracter) with access to the MRI who concurs. Look for a pain specialist with experience in subluxion injuries.
Avatar f tn he said my neck was out and did a treatment.. during the treatment he pulled my head and neck at which time I had severe pain that radiated from the back of my head up and over and was severe to right above my right eyebrow...this did not help matters... 2 days later I saw the neurologist who did and mri which showed the Chiari malformation...
Avatar n tn Also,,I was told I have cranial cervical instability and should consider having cervical fusion surgery to address this when I got my bone density up a bit.
Avatar f tn A strong gentle traction is created along the spine as gravity forces each end to move apart around the pivot point. Ideal for lower back pain relief or pre-activity warm up. I bought this direct from the company and it's great. I paid about $250. plus shipping takes about 10 minutes to put together.
Avatar m tn I have gone through many months of Physical Therapy and I have a home traction device that I use two times a day for a total of two hours. The traction device does help. I am currious about the new kinds of disk that is available. I will ask the Nureo Surgeon depending on what he feels if surgery would help and talk to him about the risk factors.
Avatar f tn You only want to pull the verterbae apart enough to feel relief from discomfort. Excessive use of the home device can cause loss of muscle tone or strain. When starting home traction therapy a short period of prednisone is sometimes recommended. Otherwise use a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory such as ibuprufin. Initially only use traction. After several days begin full "range-of-motion" exercises, moving the head around through the limits of pain.
Avatar f tn I saw in a catalog a device to lay on, that put pressure on the occipital area, to treat and relieve occipital neuralgia pain. It wasn't a pillow to sleep on, it was similar to what a physical therapist does with finger pressure, to be used for a short time. Can anyone help me come up with a name for this "thingie" LOL. Of course, now I can't find the catalog to order it. I have been suffering from severe occipital pain, shoulder pain, neck pain, and constant muscle spasms.
5003461 tn?1362225264 t use a cervical collar, and to exercise through the limits of pain. You also need to use axial traction three to ten minutes at a time, then an hour or two break, then another session. You have to increase muscle tone. And range-of-motion exercises moving your head (rolling it around 360 degrees). Then isometrics placing your hand against your forehead and pushing foward, moving the hand 30 degrees and doing this around your head. Finally sit-ups.
Avatar f tn You require axial traction, several times a day, and range of motion exercises through the oimit of pain. You need to purchase an axial traction device (about $35) and suspend yourself gently for from five to ten minutes six to eight times a day. After a week isometric exercises (holding your head against a hand and pushing to the left, right, and forward). Anti- inflammatories are indicated. For the first week oral prednisone. Painkillers won't work.
Avatar n tn Other treatments could be cervical orthosis such as a soft cervical collar or stiffer neck brace to restrict neck movement until some relief. In addition, cervical traction may also be suggested by the doctor, if condition is severe. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Thank you so much for getting back with me about the information....I've read the same thing about the traction devices but was skeptical because it was the company selling the device that was making the claim. I'm willing to try the device I just dont want to inure myself any further....Thank you for the links, I will visit them all.....Please, if you think of anything else I could do or try, leave me a note....
