Avatar f tn Currently I am on Neurontin 1200 mg a day, Soma 300 mg a day, Midrin prn for the really bad headaches and Lortab at night for pain. I do not like to take meds and honestly these don't take the pain completely away. I haven't had surgery yet, still seeking out opinions. I have been through 2 rounds of PT, but this was before I knew I had Chiari. The first round was hurtful to me as they did mechanical traction and made my symptoms worse.

Avatar f tn My 40 yr old daughter has had chronic neck pain the last 3-1/2 yrs with pain 24/7. Most medications no longer help and she has been detoxed once to give her body a chance to get relief from meds. I might add she also has fibromyalgia. She was diagnosed w/disc disease and 6 mo. ago she had the removal of 2 herniated discs in the neck area. Prior to this she was seen by numerous skilled doctors from 1 end of the country to the other, who could not find what was wrong.
Avatar n tn Other treatments could be cervical orthosis such as a soft cervical collar or stiffer neck brace to restrict neck movement until some relief. In addition, cervical traction may also be suggested by the doctor, if condition is severe. Hope this helps.

662727 tn?1225053347 I think I will talk to my doctor and see if there is an alternative medication to control the pain and discuss withdrawal with him. I know there are medications that can help with that. I know I couldn't go cold turkey. My previous doctor said I would just have to find the right level of pain control versus side affects and offered no alternatives. But I have a new doctor who may be more helpful as the pain is getting worse and the tablets less effective.
Avatar f tn Tension headaches usually present with dull-type of headache. While pain at the back of head or neck that intensifies on movement may be caused by inflammation of the blood vessels of the head or bony changes in the structures of the neck. Anti-inflammatory drugs and muscle relaxants may help provide relief. If your present medications do not help, inform your doctor for proper management.Change of dosage or medicine may be indicated. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn As you know Meloxicam (Common Brand Name, Mobic) and Ibuprofen are NSAIDs. Each can be effective in reducing pain and inflammation. As with all medications, their effectiveness often depends on an individual's reaction (metabolism). That being said I have found some research on the two which actually indicates that Ibuprofen is lightly more effective for most ppl. There may be conflicting research/studies - I can't locate it.
1554181 tn?1294328303 With the rizotomy I still have all the other symptoms, the discomfort in neck and head is the worst of them, but at least no pain. This gives me quality of life I otherwise would not have had. My neurosurgeon prefers not to operate unless it becomes critical to do so. In South Africa not many cases of ACM is seen. I am lucky to be at a NS who has knowledge of it and is careful in his treatment. It does not take away the ACM or change the progression, only controls pain.
329994 tn?1301663248 I was prescribed Butrans patches to take with oxycodone IR for long term pain management on top of all of the other bladder medications, antidepressants, and other meds and It was a miracle in itself. It helps dramatically, just leaves a rash on my skin due to a adhesive allergy i have, but DEF go for Butrans.
Avatar f tn My primary symptoms are headaches/ pressure which are quite severe, throat pressure, ear fullness, neck pain, shoulder pain, shooting/ stabbing pains, and brain fog/ confusion. I am wondering what medications my neuro surgeon may recommend for treatment of these symptoms and what to expect.
Avatar f tn If you can deal with the pain then try not to take the pain meds often. I had a c-section and was prescribed pain killers and only took them when I couldn't deal with the pain. But that's just a personal choice. If your doctor knows you are pregnant and prescribed you this then I don't see anything wrong with it.
Avatar m tn This is an option but not necessary as there are other pain medications you can use to control your pain. There are alot of CP patients that do go off of their medications for a period of time so they will work better when they begin taking them again but as I said this is not something you need to do but of course you can. If you do this your pain will be worse as the pain is not being controlled any at that point.
Avatar n tn I saw my primary care physician on Wednesday and got some surprising news. Ladies look into all the medications that you are currently taking. I too was experiencing pain in my arms, shoulders and legs that felt as if I had been working out for days. When I spoke to my doctor about this he told me that the medicine I was taking for my Cholesterol, Lipitor, was known for muscle pain. Great to know I spent $70 plus each month to make myself hurt a little more.
