Does anyone have experience of metal implants for a broken jaw (1983),inhibit a MRI scan being performed to diagnose Chiari

I have had both an MRI and CT scan of the brain within the past six months, both without contrasts. I had the MRI to check for MS or other problems as I suddenly developed body wide twitching muscles. It came back normal. I also had a CT scan at the ER because I temporarily lost vision in my left eye. It came back normal and I was diagnosed with a migraine. For the past month or so, my neck has been sore and stiff.

Had abscessed tooth on top under gold crown. At the same time bottom gums swelled and I was told that one of my back molars needed extracted. Had 3 teeth pulled. My gums are still swollen on bottom which all doctors say they look pink and healthy. I feel pressure in my jaw. I feel like I'm being strangled in my throat. Now I feel like I'm in a tunnel when I speak. All these symptoms came one after the other and I don't know what to do.

Where to start, approx 4 years ago i was sitting at my friends home when suddenly I experienced what I can only describe as the most horrific pain in the right side of my face, from the side of my nose across my check bone and radiating through my ear, it lasted approx 4/5 seconds, it felt like a burning electric shock, (I was frozen with the impact and sheer force that this pain hit my face, I would of certainly fallen to my knees If I were not already sitting at this time!

Have been doing very well since surgery. Started having strange headaches last year in left temple and jaw area. Went to e/r and after cat scan was told it was most likely TMJ. I have been wearing bite guard for last year and it got better but started hurting again this week really bad and having spasms in jaw and now my neck is killing me on the left side. Pain is going up the left side of neck and down left shoulder into arm.

I still have uncoordination in my hands (which neurosurgeon said can deffinately be related to the C5/6 compression) so I had the neurosurgeon order another MRI of the head and skull base this time I requested the 3T scanner...and my scan came back clear again (Thank GOD!!!)....what do you guys think are my odds of MS....I have had symptoms for 6 months.....but 3 clear MRI scans....2 of them almost 6 months apart....anyone have any statistics?

Due to the undertainty of the type, shape, size, and location of these metal pieces, I am not having an MRI. Is it possible to diagnose an adenoma with just the CAT scan? Is there any way to ensure ahead of time that these metal bits won't do harm when exposed to strong magnetism? If the CAT scan is inconclusive, what are my options? Thanks for any help.

You would really benefit from imaging studies like Ct scan or MRI to rule out anatomical or musculoskeletal issues. It is good that the ENT consult was fine. However, TMJ disorder should also be ruled out especially if there is pain in the jaw when eating. If the medications prescribed ( muscle relaxants and pain relievers ) do not help, check with your doctor for proper management. Take care and do keep us posted.

It seems to me like a jaw or jaw alignment issue. Have you injured your face or jaw recently? I remember having something similar once after a bad bout of cold and flu, made me think something is wrong with my entire jaw, causing my ears to crackle.

I guess now I have a indentation in my jawbone from that injection and it has filled with some scar tissue. It showed up finally on the scan that I had. Did you have an injection in your jaw to get you numb? Just wondering if we have the same thing. I have had a few root canals with no problem, this is the first one that gave me a problem and the first one that I had the jaw injection.

I’ve seen 2 ENTs, 3 physical therapists, 4 different primary care doctors, my dentist, had CT scan, MRI, X ray of jaw, and a swallowing test. Nothing showing nothing helping. They’ve prescribed me xanax, lexapro, 3 different muscle relaxers, steroid pack, 800mg ibuprofen. The only time I have relief is the first few hours when I wake up, symptoms gradually come back throughout the day. I’ve been doing stretches everyday and facial pressure points and different jaw alignment methods.

Thanks for your comment ,after this filling I was frozen and then 2 weeks later it has come back first it was my jaw was very sore to open then numbness in my lower lip chin and jaw area ..

I am still experiencing disturbed sleep,head ache/pain, ears ringing, left sinus plugs at night and burns during the day and occasional nausea.The MRI and CT scan both show nothing. I find this strange and a bit frustrating. This leaves an open arena for misdiagnosis. Aren't there any tests that show clinical proof of injury in this day and age of advanced technology? Is it possible for a radilogist to miss something?

I have just been diagnosed with TN. I have had a cat scan and MRI is scheduled. I am on 1200mg/day of Gabapentin. It has helped some but it has not got rid of pain. My pain has a somebperiods where I get a sudden sharp pain in my right ear but I always have a dull, throbbing aching pain in my jaw, cheek, ear, temple. Always with a horrible headache as well. The pain is just unrelenting. I was just wondering how others deal with this?

My family doctor insists that the mass in my parotid lesion is cystic from mri t2 hyperintense results but ent did a ct scan and said it was only a lymph node. I have pain in ear, jaw, numbness on that side of face. Have taken 3 rounds of antibiotics, a round of viral meds and high doses of steroids 5 times in the past 6 months with no relief. A biopsy of a enlarged cervical lymph node resulted in reactive hyperplasia of paracortical Tzone without lymphoma. What should I do??

s, 1 24 hour heart halter monitor, 1 chest X Ray, 1 arterial blood gas test, probably 5 blood tests that checked CBC and then a metabolic panel that included tests to check my thyroid and checked for Hep C and H Pylori, urine tests for liver/kidney issues, a neck or cervical MRI, and a gallbladder ultrasound and Hida scan.

Have weakness and numb feeling on my left side includes my left eye and jaw. Had MRI and spinal tap results are normal. This has been going on since 2012 and nobody is helping me find the answer.

Anyway I told my doc and she sent me for a CT head scan (without contrast) and I really expected the scan to come back as completely fine, but it didnt. Please can anyone help me with this, I have no idea what these results mean - There is a low density in the upper most cervical cord which I think is probably artifact. Small areas of low density in the thalami. These are likely to be simply dilated perivascular spaces but I cannot exclude small lesions.

I saw it myself on the ultrasound and Radio active scan?? My lymphnodes however are enlarged on the MRI and will need a looking at.

t sure if it was tooth ache, sinus or what ever, except the pain was incredible and would not go away unless I took strong pain relief. I had an MRI scan which indicated nothing,blood tests indicated nothing,I saw a dental specialist who made a bite guard appliance. I decided to go to my Osteopath and although it took nine 3o minute sessions, he sorted me out. The problem, my muscle down the right side of my face had gone into spasam.

hi im trying to cope with these eye aches i get severe pain through eye also my jaw bone gets strange altered sensation/numbness had mri/mra 2yrs previous due to bloke i wked with said had same symptoms as wife who died of aneursym mri/mra said significantly no abnormalties im still havin these problems and still worrying anyone shed any light on this
