is it safe for a cat with a history of kidney failure to be taking these drugs, and both at the same time? Thanks!
What was the acute kidney failure from? And, if it's acute and not chronic kidney failure, then the meds will be fine. You really don't have much of a choice, you can't let a bacterial infection go-especially a bladder infection-if untreated that goes to the kidneys and I know you don't want that. I understand your concerns completely, though. You're worried about stressing the kidneys out w/meds after he's recovering. I think it would do more harm than good to avoid the meds.
My Cookie left me on Monday after battling Chronic Kidney Disease and failure for more than 2 years. I am posting this in order to help anyone else who is facing this with their pet. My vet told me that she was among the longest survivors of CKD he has known and the longest lived he has personally treated. While there is very little comfort that I can draw from it, I hope some of the things that we got right with her can at least help others.
4 weeks ago I was diagnosed with kidney stones in the er, after a ct scan of my stomach. next day noticed pain across my shoulders, and some muscle weakness, esp. on right side. since then I believe I have passed the kidney stones. but still having a dull pain in lower left abdomin sometimes radiating to the right side, 1-2 out of 10 on pain threshold. and pain in my right shoulder sometimes radiating to the left shoulder, new symptom, muscle twitches on both sides lower stomach.
I recently was hospitalized for a nasty Kidney infection. I have been out and on antibiotics for about a week and a half. My question is can you have kidney pain this much after recovery?? I feel like the pain is coming back. It is nothing like how bad it was the first time, but I definitely have some pain again in the same spot. The doctors think a UTI caused my infection in the first place, but I have no symptoms of a UTI now. I had some itching a few days ago, but that is gone now.
Does anyone know if a yeast infection can just go away on its own after a few days? Also, has anyone else experienced GI problems with Keflex and Metronidazole? I had a kidney infection and UTI. Long story short, i was hospitalized and sent home with Keflex. My doc says it probably is the cause of this terrible diahrrea i have. So, i started the Metronidazole today. Causing a lot more nausea though.
My dog is a 6 year old female golden retriever. Of late, I have observed weakness in her hindlegs and urged my dad to take her to the vet. the lab results have indicated a 962 U/L for ALT as compared to the norm of not more than 100. I have recognised that this is a very strong indicator of liver disease, although I am not sure of which kind. As for her ALKP results, 340 was recorded against the lab's norm of not more than 212 U/L.
I also have a history of kidney stones, and right stappled kidney from an operation 25 years ago.
I don't know if it's from taking Metronidazole and then getting on Amitiza or not. It can be that I have internal problems with my Cervics or Kidney or something. It's scary, I want exams done for PID because I've had BV symptoms for the last 6 months, and I just have more problems. I wonder if it can be an ovarian cyst, all I know is movement hurts, and I don't know if it's affiliated with my monthly, but I have never felt this pain until now.
No antibiotics and no hospital exposure save vets a number of months back. Metronidazole was prescribed. How long before I should see an improvement? On it for three days.
My OB pescribed me Metronidazole for a vaginal bacteria infection. I believe they wouldnt give it to me if it was harmful, but ive read alot online about not taking it in your first almost 10 weeks with my 3rd child. Im nervous but know I ignoring the infection can/may cause miscarriage....any comments would help.

Hello, From your symptoms there is a possibility that this is due to bacterial vaginosis. Diagnosis can be confirmed after pelvic examination and microscopic examination of the vaginal discharge. Treatment is by metronidazole((Flagyl, MetroGel) and clindamycin (Cleocin) which are available under prescription. They are available as pills or vaginal gels or creams. Please do not use any vaginal douches.
after that ive seen a doctor and he give me a antibiotic levofloxacin 500mg and urotractin after i consume this antibiotic and i feel this is getting worse and i change another doctor who also give me the azithromycin 500mg and metronidazole and after i consume that for one day i test for urine and the result is no bacteria and no trichomonas and when i want to test for chalymdia and gonorhea there is no fluid from my penis and cant test.
Intake of antibiotics, any kidney disease; inflammation of the kidney, bladder infection can cause blood in urine. A complete history, laboratory and imaging studies may help in determining the cause of your symptoms. Treatment will be specific based on the cause. Schedule an appointment with a nephrologist.Do keep me posted. Take care and regards!
In our clinic, given your recurrent symptoms, you would have been treated with the alternate medication recommended for chlamydial infection (doxycycline) plus metronidazole, not just metronidazole alone because of the (unproven) possibility that you might have failed your recent treatment. Several additional thoughts arise however. First, your testing sounds unusual.
Still concerned, went to the STD clinic that day and got the full workup a Rocefin injection, Zithromax 1g pills, and Metronidazole 2g pills. I still had the same symptons for 4 more days. However, on the 5th day (today) I still had them but later in the day I went to urinate and saw a small blood clot come out. It looked to be no more than 1/4" or so long, and then had a slight blood urine mixture. Since that incident I have not had any more pain during urination. Any ideas?
parasites, gastritis, toxins, infectious agents, foreign body ingestion, kidney or liver disease, cancers and more. Not eating for two weeks is very serious. It would be great if your vet's were able to perform blood tests and X-Rays because once there is a diagnosis proper treatment can be instituted. If diagnostics cannot be performed than symptomatic treatment is the next best option. Symptomatic treatment for a vomiting, anorexic dog include: 1.
Pallidum Ab IgG (Neg) Chlamydia Antibodies, IgG (.91 / norm for having it) Creatinine, serum (kidney function) norm – for hepatitis detection.
I have a 2 year old teacup Schnauzer & recently changed her diet to a raw diet. We used Stella & Chewy's raw food. The first week she did great, the second week she began vomiting, sometimes food, other times white foamy stuff. She laid around for about 2 or 3 days, but still had an appetite, loved her new food & drank the normal amount.
I got a phone call from my doctor yesterday saying that my pap was negative but I do have symptoms of BV (which isn't a STD). More of a off PH balance. She prescribed me Metronidazole 500mg twice a day for 7 days.. I just took my first 2nd dose for today I'm nervous about what it could do to the baby.. She wouldn't prescribe it if it would hurt the baby right? Have any of you ladies experienced this.. They say it's also common in pregnancies.
She did a urine test, and that showed her that something could be wrong with the kidneys. Could be a kidney infection... or some other medical kidney word I can't recall. So now, he's on 3 meds. Amoxicillin, Cimetidine, and Metronidazole We just started him on Amoxicllin today and the other 2 he's been on for a couple days with no improvement. We gave him the pills with food and he just threw it up and is now sleeping.... Tried to be as detailed as possible. Would love a second opinion.
and she said it was an infection that got into her kidneys. They gave her metronidazole which is used for trich but not kidney infections that I know of. Is there a reason they would prescribe this medication for an infection of the kidneys or am I wrong for being suspicious. We don't have sex for months and she is always out and coming home late.
got checked for UTIs and nothing, blood test came back slightly abnormal kidneys and i had high level of creatinine which i think is due to my on/off high protein diet over the past few years, anyway i feel they completely sent me down the wrong path of seeing a kidney specialist, had the ultrasound which was fine and basically told me to cut down on protein and water intake (load of rubbish in my eyes this was lol) anyway so on november 19th tested positive for chlamydia, had 1g of azithro 4 t
They said I had a UTI and possibly a Kidney infection and prescribed Macrobid. That didn't work and in 2 days I went back, they changed the medication to Levoquin (spelling may be off). That worked! Well, just when I was about done with the medicine my stomach started to hurt again - not as much but I felt like something was still wrong. So I went back and now they say I have the Trichomonas. Sigh, absolutely no clue how I would get that.
