Metoprolol pvc

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol pvc

toprol

metoprolol tartrate, and metoprolol succinate, the later has a time release property. While this requires only one dose per day, it's cost is much higher than metoprolol tartrate, and some insurance companies place it in a higher tier co-pay. I've been on this drug for about 6 years. I originally got on it for its well known side effect of slowing the heart rate.
49 yr old female..had PVCs..PACs..for 17 years...and, now, as of a 48 hr holter worn last week--ive had 4300 Supraventricular Ectopic beats. Never heard of SVE before, but my cardiologist told me it is NOT life threatening even though I have the beginnings of Coronary artery disease...have some "areas of narrowings" that I am working on thru diet, exercise and cholesterol meds. I can go days without a palpitation, and then bam. they are there with a vengeance.
I definately agree with you that the meds made it worse..I think this happened with the metoprolol that was on.I never had PVC's before I was on it and now I get them constantly. I also know how you feel about not wanting to be on them for life..You are 20 and that is way too young..The side effects are also sometimes worse than the actual problem. They scare me.
I've been dealing with PAC's/PVC close to five years now. They come and go in intensity but have lately been really active. I finally started to take Metoprolol 25mg 2x day. I haven't noticed any significant change in improvement other than maybe they don't feel as strong but they are still there. At what point do I discontinue the meds or is there some valuable benefit to a beta blocker as far as overall heart health.
Doctors tell him that it might be due to his heart medications. He takes metoprolol 100mgx 2, Nitron, and cipro. Are any of these pills responsible for this coldness. He also has been experiencing vivid nightmares and calling out in his sleep. The second thing is could you tell me the difference in the symptoms for atrial fib. and pvc? Thanks for your help and this wonderful service!
I have inappropriate sinus tachycardia and uni- focal pvcs. I am a 35 year old female. The tach is induced by simply standing up or putting on my clothes. The pvcs occur at nearly 20,000 a day, I am incredibly symptomatic and I feel every one. I have been on atenolol, it helped the tachycardia but not the pvcs. I am currently taking nothing to treat my issues. I have been told I have PCOS and POTS. I do notice some (very) short term alleviation of symptoms with magnesium, B12, even sodium.
I've been taking 25 mg of metoprolo a day (1/2 pill twice daily) just for some minor issues with PVCs. After several months I got hives and some food sensitivity that is evidently a side effect, so I decided to stop. My cardiologist seemed to think this is a low enough dose that I could just stop cold if I wanted to, but I thought I'd see what folks thought, if I should taper off.
Does Apo Metoprolol prevent PVC's from happening, and if so, will it render the readings from the Holter Monitor inaccurate? Thank you in advance for your answer.
personal_page_id=1886508# I am a 32 year old female and since May of 2010 I have been experiencing heart palpatations/ tachycardia or pvc's as the Dr calls them. I took an over the counter cold med with sudophedrine in it and ever since have had heart palps. I was seen at the er and had all tests to confirm no heat attack all tests came back normal just keep having pvc's they come and go now but it's very annoying!! I do have HBP and was on a BP med at the time of the onset of pvc's.
So the beat that you feel is not the PVC, is the beat that come after that one that is usually stronger. Symptoms that are red flags w/ PVCs are sustained PVCs (i.e. sustained or non-sustained ventricular tachycardia; multifocal PVCs during exercise; or passing out b/o an arrhythmia). If the patient is otherwise healthy with a normal echocardiogram and no other symptoms, PVCs are in general harmless. In your case, you tried with atenolol and it did not work.
I get that too, sometimes. I did last night after days and days of no PVC's. It usually happens when I lay down and then THINK about it. Like... "Hmm... no pvc's" and that can normally bring them on.
daily of magnesium for PVC's. Sectral is one of the few beta-blockers that specifically lists it's use in treatment of PVC's and it has repeatedly shown reduction in PVC's and ventricular arrhythmia's in numberous clinical trials. It's not prescribed that often because it's an older drug (FDA approved in 1984) and for some reason most doctors seem to only prescribe newer drugs. Another positive thing is that it is beta-selective. It might be worth a try....good luck in whatever you decide!
I have had pvcs for 6 or 7 years now, and although they have never caused a major problem, but I feel like they are gettin worse. It has been normal for me to get periods of 8- 10 of them in a rowat least 3 or 4 times a day, and there are times when I have them all day long. but the other day my heart felt like it was fluttering very quickly for about 3 beats, but then it went back to normal.
Hello, I have been to the ER for skipping heart beats. They told me its PVC's and PAC's. about 15 a minute. The tell me they wont hurt me and sent me home. Had all the heart workups and still they find nothing. I'm going crazy with this. Any advice?
in the early years these runs led into attacks of AF so i can confirm that PVC's as you call them in the US can lead into more dangerous arrhythmia's. I am taking Sotalol which controls AF but does nothing for PVC's. I have read lots of interesting comments from other sufferers in this forum and agree that exercise in the form of walking or whatever does diminish the forcefulness of the beats.
I do experience my pvc's acting up after a meal! I hate them. I am Toprol XL 50mg. It helps, but doesn't not get rid of all of them. I have had them everyday now for 7 months. I wish there was something to totally make them go away.
M's and candy corns to no avail. PVC's are back with a vengance and bp is high again. Now she has me on Metoprolol (not working so far), and won't give me the "Blue Pill" this time. I'm also getting the same line, "loose 20 lbs." You might want to inquire about Atenolol. It worked for me. (I'd sure like to go back to it myself, in concert with the blue pill - life was perfect). But isn't Atenolol in the same family as Metoprolol? Tenormin??
Multifocal or Multiform PVC's "When an ECG rhythm strip has PVC's that have 'QRS' complexes (wave patterns) with different shapes, these are called either multifocal or multiform PVC's. It used to be thought that when PVC's had 'QRS' complexes with different shapes that they were always produced from different ectopic sites in the ventricles, and hence they were always called multifocal PVC's.
Hello I am new to this website. I like alot of people here struggle with PVC's and tachycardia. I was diagnosed about 5 years ago. I am 32, I have 1 son and is a single parent. So of course this diagnosis alarms me. The DR says my heart is A OK. Ive had a number of test including c ouple echoes, EKG's and a stress test, all were fine. In the begining I would get PVCs every day, which landed me in the ER about 2X a week.
I've been taking metoprolol Tartrate (Lopressor) for a couple of months now for what the doctors are calling benign PVC's. I was having the constantly for almost 2 months before we started the medication and it seems to be helping, I haven't had any PVC's for awhile now. My question is, can you drink alcohol while taking it? I'm by no means a heavy drinker, but it's nice to have a drink with friends once in awhile.
I'm 33 and in good health. I started having PVC's after my son was born 11 years ago. For the most part they have not bothered me but the last few days they have become more frequent. They only happen after I have come to rest (setting, laying down). They generally last about an hour at night and happen about every 10 to 20 seconds then slow down till they stop. The last few days though they are happening almost every other heart beat and I've been feeling a little strange.
I had my last very severe and long lasting symptomatic episode about two months ago and finally went to the ER and my electrolytes were nl, my x-ray was nl, ekg had pvcs so he gave me metoprolol 25mg which i took, i was having irregular beats every 2-7 beats going into the hospital and leaving the hospital. The medication did nothing as far as i could tell, i felt the exact same.
Dear doctor, thank you so much for your help. I am 36, female and have had PVCs since I was about 18. In the past I only would get a few PVCs a day. During a stressful move 2 years ago the PVCs got bad and the doctor prescribed Metropolol. After taking it for 2 months I became very ill from the Betablocker, couldn't breathe, started having panik attacks and was shaky all the time.I was taken off the BB and developed clinical depression. The PVCs had been better during the time I took the BB.
I have a question concerning the significance of PVC, mainly multifocal and couplets. I am a 32 y old white female significantly overweigt, pretty sedintary, Stress test a year ago okay, excercised to 5.4 mets on a Modified Bruce. Echo 2 years ago pretty normal except for some septal enlargement but on the larger size of normal, and mitral and tricupsid minimal leaking, and aortic calcification small amount.
IWent to my cardiologist yesterday because my PVCs are still causing me great distress. I guess I just haven't gotten used to them. A little background: I have had PVCs off and on for years but never really thought too much about them. They would come and go and I would just barely notice them. This last January my doctor took me off of Effexor XR for an anxiety condition I have. As soon as she did the PVCs hit with a vengeance.
I was diagnosed with PVC's 15 years ago and was put on Metoprolol 25 mg. I've now been diagnosed with depression and was prescribed Prozac 10 mg which I'm afraid to take now because of the drug interactions I've seen on the internet with these two drugs. Can I run into problems by combining these two drugs.
I take metoprolol (aka lopressor) for PVC's and occasional SVT. It has been good for me....my PVC's are not gone, but they are not as "forceful" and therefore are easier to ignore. The SVT is very infrequent for me in the first place, so I can't say that the metoprolol has had anything to do with the fact that I haven't had any for nearly 1.5 years, but I'm not going to stop the drugs to find out :-).
My doctor said to take atenolol in the morning and metoprolol at night for a week then switch to all atenolol. This worries me because you shouldn't mix two types of beta blockers. Since the two are similar why can't I just switch?
I was given metoprolol to lower my heart rate while waiting for thyroid surgery. 25 mg 2x per day am & pm. I havve been onit since March and it has worked well except for recently. Twice per day early morning 5 am and early evening 3-5 pm my heart starts pounding again, rasing to aobut high 80s and low 90s until I take the next pill. Waht is happening? My doctor says nothing to worry about. But this is strange because it is new and very uncomfotalbe.
I took 2 different versions of metoprolol, Toprol (metoprolol tartrate) and Toprol XL (metoprolol succinate). The second one is the extended release version. Toprol made my symtoms worse but Toprol XL worked fairly well in controlling my conditions, PVC's and PSVT. I was taking 50 mg a day in both cases. The only thing that affected me was a slight feeling of dizziness at times and some mental fatigue.
