Common Questions and Answers about Methadone xanax combination
Warning - if you are in a program where you go get your methadone each day etc, you better tell them. My husband was on xanax and they thru a fit at the clinic snd ended up discharging him from the program. Guess it is part of the gov't regulations. No benzos. He gave them hus prescription list at intact then they random tested him and kucked him off.
So run it by them first.
Research shows that if you use an opiate pain reliever with Xanax that it will cause the opiate to work better. Xanax will has always been known to make you sleepy so please do not drive while taking it... It knocks me out sometimes, I have have taken a pretty high dose for years and it is still working as well as it always has... helps me sleep.... in fact, nights when I hurt there is not way that I can sleep without it. Hope this info helps. Good Luck.
Methadone and Xanax is a potentially lethal combination, as I'm sure you know. It's hard to know how much is too much, as we don't hear from the ones that don't make it. My son was one of those (1 year ago, age 27), and I have some idea of what he was taking. On one of his (survived) OD's, he took 1600 mg of methadone and I don't know how much Xanax (he often combined them).
if he has gone for 2 weeks without any xanax then he should beable to go into detox. how long has he been taking the xanax?
how does he pay for methadone, xanax , a car, insurance, psychiatrist, vyvanse?
* Halcion, Versed, Valium, Xanax and quazepam
* Zoloft and Lustral
* Statins such as Lipitor, Mevacor, Zocor, Simlup, Simcor, Simvacor, with the exception of Pravachol. Lescol and Crestor which are unaffected by grapefruit.
I've been having epileptic seizures for 12yrs; however, in 2008 I had one while driving (I was alone & hit a ditch--no one else was hurt). I broke my ribs (all totaled with multiple fractions included), my neck, my back, but most importantly both upper arms required rods (nerve damage to left wrist & a plate in lower right arm). Both lungs punctured, partical liver removed (fun fact, it regenerates), spline, gallbladder... The works.
Have you deceased your dosage lately?
Is the xanax doctor prescribed?
Xanax and methadone are both a central nervous system depressant as
Well as a respiratory depressant.
It is dangerous to be on them both at the same time.
Have you had an therapy/ counseling for your anxiety?
Xanax can be dangerous in combination with Methadone. He needs to be very careful there. I wouldn't do it. It decreases respirations, causes increased drowsiness, along with confusion and sometimes coma. Maybe something more natural for anxiety...
Again, I don't know of anyone who stopped Methadone at that high a dose. The highest I know of is 30 mgs.
I also think your B/F is taking a lot more methadone to be so cationic from it I had similar symptoms when I was taking 150mg....tapering off methadone is tuff to do as addicts we are always looking for a pill to fix what is wrong this is not a solution please take the warning as serious he is not having normal reactions to the combination...
I have been an opiate addict for ten yrs and clean from methadone since 5/6/09 and clean from lortabs for 20 days. Still feel a lil rough. I take Xanax to help with anxiety and insomnia that takes place as your brain and body gets back to normal. Keep posting and u r in the right place!!! Good luck and keep in touch! You can do this!!!!!
he does the same thing at night when he finally sits down to relax, he just zonks out sitting up, but i think that is from actual physically being beat, along with the combination of the methadone, but that is at the end of the day...not all day long, i sincerely think your husband is not tapering and is on a extremely high dose.
A lot of my patients these days with chronic pain issues (cancer, etc) are prescribed Methadone. And, of course many people take other Narcotics on as "as needed" basis for pain (Percocet, Vicodin, etc)...and I tell you, it seems that the people who have been on long-term Methadone are WAY more concerned about getting their dose of that versus an "as needed" dose of another narcotic.
I guess Methadone also gives the user a "high", similar to a Percocet?
look on the bottom right side of this page under the health pages for the thomas recipe and the amino acid protocol. my husband went cold turkey6 from 20mg of methadone and 8mg of xanax and he was so,so sick for many months. stick close to the forum and let us know how he is doing on a very regular basis.
Hi everybody and Merry Christmas by the way, I just want to ask , is it easier to come off valium than xanax or does it depend on the person or what, Right now I'm on Methadone for pain, (Arthritis and bone spurs in feet) and xanax for stress at my job, I'm out of work right now so I desperately want off the xanax then eventually the methadone, any advise?
I wouldn't stick with that mixture for long, but that's me. I've done all those drugs, but I used methadone, adderral and Xanax together. I was flying high and ready to work, the come down was horrible on many levels.
Alprazolam (Xanax) and methadone are highly addictive narcotics, both physically and psychologically. These two drugs should never be 'mixed' or even taken relatively close to one another unless the reaction is literally being monitired by a doctor and/or medical staff. I am an addict and I know from experience how dangerous this combination can be, trust me; you're playing with fire.
I hope he's not self medicating because a lethal combination can occur.
People speak of the horrors of benzo withdrawals but I went from 4mgs of xanax a day (was on it scripted for years) to zero with little to no issue. Yes, I felt very out of body but I also know how to function as I detox and to listen to my body. He's going to have to detox off of them as well, this is now 2 addictions he'll have to maintain and withdrawal.
Another thing for chronic anxiety is that benzos don't really help chronic anxiety if taken daily then can create more anxiety from benzo rebound especially from xanax. Benzos and methadone are a major problem in all methadone clinics where you can usually buy pills right around the corner from the clinic in major cities.
I have always been an advocate for methadone. Methadone is what got me sober. However, I lost a friend this weekend after he mixed methadone and Oxy. It had turned my world inside out as I know he didn't take much of either. Plus he wasn't even ADDICTED to oxy, he just ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time.. How much of each is needed to create an overdose??? This has been awful.
I've been slowly tapering off of a 15 year Methadone maintainence program for about 2 years now. Roughly dropping 5 milligrams every month or so. About a month ago my dose was at 3 mgs. At that point I really didn't feel to bad during the day although the nights were horrible due not being able to sleep.
At that point I decided to just stop the meth all together, rather than prolonging the agony of dropping from 3 -2, then 2-1 etc.
I'm afraid I have no medical info to help you with (doc dan, if you're out there, please help this guy!). But I can observe, if I were getting enough methadone to control pain, I can't imagine being depressed. I just can't quite see it. Perhaps it wouldn't hurt to try going off the anti-depressants entirely for a week or so and seeing how you feel. Effexor is an SSRI, like Paxil. You can compare the two by going to:
I need help getting off methadone. I also want to know what to expect. How long will the depression last? When do you start feeling better? I know this is different for everyone, but I need some guide lines. I got down to 10 mgs last week and felt really depressed, so I went back up. I started using pain meds for a legetimate reason. I had severe nerve damage in feet. Had several surgeries. Then it became a bad habit. I used for about 7 years (oxy's, lorcet).
I was taking xanax for 3 months and I tapered off of it. Its been 3 days since I had any and I haven't been able to leave my house or my moms house because of my anxiety. I have no idea what to do. The thought of going out gives me a panic attack.
what I dont understand is how he is getting by at the clinic with the street benzos they do random u/as and benzos and methadone is a deadly combination so is mixing it with the barbiturate this guy is riding on luck here and is living really dangerously you seam to still care about him if your here seaking help
for you alnon meeting are the place you need to be if your planing on any sort of relationship but with this guy cut your tyes tell him to come see you when he is clean he keeps going th
It started out as a synthetic opiod. No need to rely on poppy seeds from countries in the Middle East; methadone can be created in a lab.
Then when the country was hit hard with a heroin epidemic around the time of the Vietnam War, methadone clinics began popping up everywhere.
They have become money making machines, and methadone has proven to be a BAD choice to get people off heroin. Weaver is correct; "done kills a lot of folks.
Its a terrible ritual that unfortunately soo many ppl on the methadone treatment will get sucked into...and there is no doubt in my mind that he is using xanax with his methadone cuz theyre the secret key to truly getting the most out of both of them and getting high.
