To lessen your tummy problem take your dose with food like with your mid-day meal. If it does help but your tummy still feels a bit upset try splitting the tablet in two parts and take at different times, again with food. And do not consume alcohol right after taking.

I take metformin for insulin resistance and ovarian cysts. My doctor started me on 500 mg, taken with dinner and with in the first few days I had loose bowels. That went away and as long as I stay on my high fiber low glycemic diet I have no problems. My doctor started me on a low dose so that my body could get use to it. HI, Pregnancy is not impossible in women with PCOS. With proper treatment conceiving will be possible. Metformin and clomid both are good drugs. Metformin will help normalise your hormones and clomid helps with induction of ovulation. This can be taken for 3 to 6 months. I take 1000mg of Metformin a day. Metformin will upset your stomach, cause diarrhea, etc. but that only lasts a couple weeks. I'm currently in my 2nd month of taking Metformin and I'm taking a pregnancy test at the end of the week! Did your doctor not explain the side effects? Upset stomach is a normal side effect. I had a CT scan for poss. divercu. which was neg. Report states: Somewhat inhomogeneous decreased attenuation of the liver. Liver is enlarged 26 cm in length, Gallbladder removed. Borderline enlargement of retroperitoneal nodes measuring up to 10mm. Spleen near upper limits of norm. w/o evidence of focal splenic abnormality.

I've been taking Metformin for type II Diab for six months. I have been on HCG for weight loss for 2 weeks. When I started HCG, I stopped taking Metformin because my glucose measurement was in great shape (90-110). However, now its a bit more erratic, dipping below 80. Is there a lag between stopping Metf. and the downside of that, just like my Gen Pract family doc told me some time back that Metf takes 30 days of taking before it is fully effective?

I have been on provera in the past and it induced a period... with metformin it took a month or two to kick in but since starting it in 2009 I haven't missed a period becauae of the metformin.
