My 20 year-old daughter has been on Metformin for PCOS for two years. She is showing symptoms of the flu, and to make it harder on me, she's on an internship in Florida, so I can't even "see" the symptoms. She tells me she has fever, headache, sore throat, dizziness, vomiting, and general achiness. Should she stop taking it while she's sick? Thanks for any help and/or reassurance you can give me!
I have been taking metformin for a week and have lost 19 pounds i am taking it for pcos and it has worked wonders i also have a normal cycle now i dont know if you have one or not but if you dont hopefully it will help
I am just wondering if there are any problems with drug interactions between Metformin and OTC meds like Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Midol, Unisom, Allergy/Sinus meds, etc... Common things that a person might take for pain, sleeplessness, allergies, colds, etc?
As of now, October 2008, I am currently only taking zyrtec-D, ibuprofen for my back pain, metformin for insulin resistance, and synthroid for hypothyroidism. I also decided to visit a chiropractor in September to try to resolve my mid back pain. It has helped my neck and my lower back ( I sit all day at a computer), but my mid back pain still hurts, particularly when take a deep breathe. The chiro said I have a subluxated rib, but did not do x-rays.
Synthyroid, Lasix, inhalers, Metformin, Ibuprofen, Emtec, etc I was put on Dexedrine and three days in it was fabulous. The night day switch reversed. I woke completely in the am and got tired at night. And I felt calm. Now with taking two half tabs I feel nothing. I cannot decide if this is a good thing or not. 2008 was the year from hell. Now I have a family member seriously ill and coping with that which is difficult.

( looks like my tubes are all clear though just got to wait for official consultant's review, however I can start metformin in next cycle now, so ill go see my GP in a few weeks and go get the prescription. Having such bad cramps I just need to get home and go relax in the garden >.< at least it's over now. No more invasions of my privacy until my smear test, I turn 25 in two months, talk about rubbish timing!
The dizziness resembled being carsick, with lightheadedness and occasional moments of nausea and feeling faint (but I never passed out). I had a CAT scan and blood work twice, and so far no diagnosis for the dizziness/fatigue. It got better for a few weeks but last week I began to have dizzy spells again, this time accompanied by maxillary sinus pressure. I had just switched allergy medications, from Nasonex to generic Flonase, right at the time my symptoms returned.
I would suggest to talk to her gyn and maybe start on Metformin. This will help with weight loss and also the symptoms of pcos.

Hi I'm 43 year old female 140lbs 5"7- Just got a blood test and the EGFR is flagged low at 58- (reference range is 70) and Anion Gap is also low at 5.7 (reference range 6-18). I am currently taking metformin once a day as a preventive for diabetes- (had gestational diabetes but not diabetic now). No other medications. Should I be concerned?
Simple question here, has anyone ever had a negative blood test and negative urine test and went on with their daily routine and a month or so later found out you were in fact pregnant while having ultrasound done. If this has happened to anyone or perhaps someone you know, please respond, I'd appreciate the information. Thanks.
It worsens if I have been on my feet quite some time or using my arms (holding grandbabies). I do have Diabetes but it is managed by Metformin and diet. I take Lyrica, low dose, for pain in my toes and feet. Whenever i cannot tolerate the discomfort any longer I take 800mg Ibuprofen. I often use Blue Stuff or Biofreeze. None of this really works well enough to alleviate the constant pain.
I think everything is over and I clean up. I walk out of the toilet and in about 2 minutes time the stomach cramp and the fainting sensation comes back (I've fainted only once to date from this and was out for about 15-20 minutes). 6. When I get back to the toilet I have a really violent Diarrhoea episode in pure liquid state.
As well as pain in my left breast on the side (by armpit) as well as the upper part of breast. My shoulder and left arm and backside sometimes hurts too. I was told I have anxiety but I never had it like this. I am a type 2 diabetic. I take metformin which I wonder about the side effects. I get these pains constantly. I've gone to the ER, they did EKG and X-rays said I was fine. I told my dr and she said my EKG, oxygen and various test say my hearts fine.

( It goes away after I take Ibuprofen, but I'm finding that I'm taking 3-4x daily, which is getting old, and also making me tired?
I am so sorry to hear you are in pain. Your recent findings could just be a temporary condition at this time...perhaps due to a hormonal change or imbalance. Or, you may have something else going on like PCOS. Those with PCOS often have many small cysts that make the ovary appear "bulky.". Birth control pills sometimes help balance hormones and get rid of small cysts. But, you will have to wait to see what your doctor recommends.
But most important of all fire your experimenting doctor. Write down all your medications, supplements including aspirin and ibuprofen, the dose you take and when, and present it to your "new" doctor/s. Good luck.
Not sure when I can resume taking Ibuprofen again for headaches, pulled groin muscle, ect. Please advise? My PCP, he took me off the metformin and lipitor at this time thinking it's the med's that are causing the high liver enzymes. However, if they are the underlying cause, wouldn't the level's of went back down as time went on and not up? I know this sounds like a weird question, but was wondering what your advice would be in coloring my hair?
These are often prescribed for runners, sports injuries to joints, and those suffering from arthritis. Syva labs has recently reworked its Cannabinoid test and claims to have eliminated this problem. But a Science magazine article (July 8, 1988) lists Ibuprofen as cross reactive. Under the new government guidelines THC testing levels will be reduced to 50 nanograms. Many more THC false positives can be expected in 1994. Dristan Nasal Spray, Neosynephren, Vicks Nasal Spray, Sudafed, etc.

I was just diagnosed with Hashimoto Thyroiditis. Due to the diabetes and high cholesterol I was taking metformin 500 mg.'s once a day and lipitor 10 mg.'s once a day for about 6 yrs. now. I've now been taken off the medicine's now due to high liver enzymes. I was diagnosed with a fatty liver in 2008. I feel like I'm falling apart, the unknown is the worse. Anyhow, I just had a ultrasound done on my liver, pancreas, aorta and right kidney due to high liver enzymes. I had a attack about 4 yrs.
Also, an MRI can reveal where the nerve is compressed. For right now, I would take a medication that reduces inflamation (ibuprofen) and see if you start to feel better after a few days. Also rest and ice at the shoulder and neck may relieve the pressure. Best of luck!
Im 27, and 4 yrs ago was thought to have pcos. I have had irregular periods, u/s showed multiple follicular cysts both ovaries. My dr did not really bother doing blood tests, and i did not know how serious this could be(pcos). I went today for another u/s, b/c of BAD pain in left ovary. Well I saw why! I still have all those cysts, plus a HUGE looking one on left ovary. it hurts tosit even. The lady was nice enough to giver me a view of the screen.
( and I vomit at least 1-2 times a day. Mostly after I eat I have tried pills to help with the nausea but nothing works. But what has helped somewhat for me is to not drink any soft drink after a meal. With the pain my doctor says to just have normal pain killers and/or have a warm bath. Nothing really helps iv told the doctor this and he says the same thing, panadol.
Try using ibuprofen at 800mg 3 times day and see if that works better than the Tylenol. Generally ibuprofen is 200mg per tablet so you would be taking 4 at a time, 3 times a day. Use this for up to a week and let me know if it helps. Obviously you shouldn't be taking this high a dosage for a longer period of time.
but within two days of high fever, she went to the ibuprofen and it worked, oh well.....I'll always be the outspoken know it all to all of my family and friends.
They're always off..sometimes close but sometimes wayyy different. So I went back a year and wrote them down and hopefully you ladies can help me...Crazy or No?
