Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro and nightmares

lexapro

Avatar f tn Since beginning the Lexapro, I have had several very vivid nightmares/terrors. They are so awful, I fear going to sleep, and after I have one, it takes at least an hour to get myself to try to return to bed. I was taking Effexor 150mg just prior to starting Lexapro, and was told to stop it before starting Lexapro which I did, but could there be lingering Effexor in my system causing these nightmares?
Avatar n tn she is beside herself with insomnia and just recently has started having nightmares really vividly almost immediately on getting to sleep. she no longer feels safe in her home so i think her paranioa levels are way up. any advice out there - could this be caused by the withdrawal from the lexapro??
991895 tn?1259351987 I've been on Lexapro 20 mg for almost 2 years. I also have ADD and I've been taking adderol for about 5. Seems like for the past year or so I've been having numerous vivid dreams every night and i can ALWAYS remember them clearly. There are two guys from my past that are always the stars of my dreams.
Avatar f tn ve been taking celexa regularly for a year now and every night I have nightmares. graphic nightmares, and I wake up from one then fall asleep and another begins. My doctor tried to tell me that I have a sleep disorder and I should start taking something for it, but I've never ever had trouble sleeping before. I used to like having vivid dreams every night but then it turned into nightmares I feel like recently it's started to drive me nuts.
Avatar n tn So I am now to take Buspar alone for 2 weeks until my nightmares and restless legs stop and then she wants me to try Effexor with the Buspar, unless the Buspar works good by itself, or just Effexor if the Buspar doesn't work. Sigh.... I'm a guinea pig, and I still have anxiety!!!!
Avatar f tn i stopped cold turkey from wellbutrin and celexa and was feeling ok for a few days then it hit me. i then went back to half dosage of each for 4 days, this made all symptoms of withdrawal go away. i then dropped my dose to 1/4 for 4 days, figuring this would hopefully make me have no withdrawal symptoms. not sure if i didn't step down for long enough or what but withdrawal is back though definitely not as severe. i have the vertigo which is awful. feeling dizzy, nauseous.
847195 tn?1296171647 i have had anxiety for a very long time, about 3 years and extremely bad panic attacks and very very bad globulus hystercus, but never really had crazy dreams like this from any of that! These dreams are are like some crazy trip, not my normal dreams... any thoughts?
Avatar f tn I took lexapro when I first started meds and it made me tired all the time and memory loss, which I couldnt remember what I did yesterday, type thing. I went from lexapro to welbutrin, then I was taking lexapro and welbutrin... but now the doc has me on Zoloft, which I feel is better for me than lexapro and welbutrin, I just dont like the sexual side affects.. which I cannot enjoy my sexual desires.. but im gonna go back to the doc for that...
Avatar n tn Had sexual side effects and gained some weight but I am not positive is from the Lexapro but I think may be. The Dr gave me Effexor which knocked me out for 3 days, slept 36 hours straight, then Celexa which I broke out in a rash all over my body from. He tried Wellbutrin but that did nothing. I didn't lose weight on it like some people do.
135456 tn?1301437624 Sedation, drowsiness and fatigue are all normal side effects for escitalopram. (Lexapro) It can take up to 4 weeks for Lexapro to reach therapeutic levels and you MAY experience these side effects while your body is adjusting to the medication. NEVER alter the dosage of ANY medication without consulting your doctor! NEVER! If this sedative effect does NOT begin to decrease, which it should, speak with your doctor, you may need to try a different med.
Avatar f tn t concentrate and no motivation help anyone I would really appreciate it also I only have 8 pills left as my doc is an idiot and told me there were no side affects and it takes weeks to get ahold of him and now I'm in my room in a ball at 4 am trying to find help online

1497278 tn?1289708073 And i have been on lexapro for 1month and on adavan for two.I take the lexapro once a day and the adavan as needed.Which i have had to take the adavan everyday since i got it.The first three weeks of starting the lexapro were a mess.Extreme anxiety.Weird feelings ect. Then i started to feel allittle bit better within these last two weeks. It feels more like i'm still haveing anxiety but, when i do it's allittle easier to control.I really can't describe it.
358304 tn?1409709492 and have no anxiety... but have vivid dreams... nightmares almost.. and I sleep good... but wake up feeling like I was in an action packed horror movie... I can't say I've had a "good" dream sense I've been on lexapro... and I dream everynight with this stuff it seems like. lol. It's not a terrible thing, but maybe going from 5mg to 2.5 will help that some? And it may help with my sexual dysfunction. *Can't get off* very easily while taking 5mg.
Avatar m tn Quick history...on lexapro 10mg for 8 years, went up to 20mg back in December '09 and started going to Therapy due to some anxiety and depression. In June of 2010, I weaned myself off because I thought I was now "cured" because I was going to therapy (big mistake). In late August, symptoms returned and I had an old perscription of Wellbutrin I tried for 2 weeks that made things worse. My dr switched me back to 10mg of lexapro for 2 weeks and now back up to 20mgs for the past 2.
Avatar f tn Not to sound judgmental, but does your wife want to be weaned off Lexapro? It sounds like you are in charge here and a doctor should be the one doing the "weaning". The symptoms you describe are normal ones, but she should defintiely be in the care of a doctor. Abrupt weaning of these drugs can cause seizures and a lot of other nasty stuff. If it's your doc you don't like, call around and find one who will work with you.
179856 tn?1333547362 I mean hardcore horrible worse things you can imagine and so real nightmares. Then last night on night five I just went ballistic crying, weeping, going out of my mind sobbing. I tried to take an Ambien and go to sleep well - the nightmares were so bad and so strong I woke up screaming at the top of my lungs. I turned the light on and went back to bed and they came back.
Avatar f tn i have PTSD from combat and i take zoloft for this and i suffer from flashbacks and nightmares i also have schizophrenia and tardive dyskinesia i take geodon and congentin for this.
Avatar f tn I don't have nightmares, but I do have very weird dreams. And it's the same time every night! I wake up every morning about 4:30 and when I go back to sleep, that's when I have them.
358304 tn?1409709492 I believe I have properly weaned myself off of the Lexapro and Klonopin. I weaned off both medications within 2-3 weeks. I cut the Lexapro in half taking 5mg for about a week, then .25mg, then smaller and smaller. Same with Klonopin, .5mg then to .25mg to .0125mg or something like that. My anxiety is GONE! Which is GREAT! =) But I have had a few symptoms, and I don't know if it's rebound anxiety symptoms or if it's from withdrawal from the benzo and the anti-depressant.
1217309 tn?1267050177 I took Lexapro for about a month and at first it worked, but it felt like I was a zombie (hope that makes sense) kind of zoned out - I assume that's what it's supposed to do? dr never told me anything. I didn't notice any help with anxiety/depression issues though and when my month was done, I didn't go back. Still woke up with nightmares, panic attacks etc. btw...
Avatar f tn I've been having nightmares for days and waking up crying and sweating. I can't sleep at night, so I end up going to bed around 3am and waking up around noon. I'm on vacations now so it doesn't actually affect my daily schedule, but I feel I don't seize the day waking up so late. Any natural alternatives to sleeping pills? I'm not very fond of sleeping drugs...
Avatar f tn I barley have a life anymore. My dr prescribed me lexapro, but i havnt tried it yet. Im lost, alone, and scared. I feel no man will accept me and i feel completely destroyed sexually.... i cry everyday and live in fear that im abnormal and my lifes ruiend.
Avatar f tn If you eat food with sugar right before bed they may trigger nightmares. Try to drink hot tea and light a candle and relax before bed. Find some relaxation music to listen too while you drink hot tea with honey.
3926262 tn?1350439336 As many of you know, I am about to begin week 6 on triple therapy with incevik. I am also currently taking Lexapro to help with anxiety/depression. I have been experiencing numerous very graphic and disturbing dreams for the last couple of weeks. I am not sure if it's the tx or the Lexapro....or a combination of both? I have even awakened my husband by yelling out in my sleep.
