knee

Avatar m tn Around the top of my knee cap is tender and hurts and when I put pressure on my knee getting out the car or anything I get sharp tack like pains under my knee cap and sometimes on the side of my knee and it aches a little, I have really slight swelling but I am able to walk. What do you think it is and what should I do?
Avatar n tn Hi! I'm sorry to hear about your knee. It sounds to me like either a ligament or possibly cartilage. Does it feel unstable or is it still giving out on you? Does it ache after sitting for long amounts of time? Is your pain off to the side of the knee or under your knee cap? These answers may help me know better.
Avatar f tn You need to know I have arthritis in both knees and no cartilage left under knee caps. My knee instantly was hurting but mostly when trying to walk normal. I can walk stiff legged and it doesn't hurt too bad but flex the knee and it has sharp pain like i have walking up and down stairs because of the knee caps. I sit in a normal position but lifting foot causing lots of pain around knee cap. I'm guessing I probably pulled something. Have put ice on it and taken ibu.
Avatar n tn Thus, ACL prevents the tibia from sliding too far forward and also contributes stability to other movements at the joint including the angulation, rotation at the knee joint. When an ACL injury occurs, the knee becomes less stable and there is a sensation that the knee will 'give out' from under them. Consequently, there would be difficulty in doing high demand work beyond the activities of daily living.
Avatar f tn my daughter who is 11 broke her knee cap snapped off one of the minscus ligaments right at the knee cap and the cartilage that covers the knee was torn..she wasn't doing anything except standing when this happened..she recently had surgery on Nov 30Th to repair it.her orthopedic surgeon said that with the repair he is not optimistic about the knee cap staying in place due to bone shifting and as well as tissue degenerating..
Avatar f tn Pains on inside of knee and under knee cap front, a slightly diff pain behind the knee and random sharp shooting pains on top of knee. Any suggestions as to what could be wrong? I can wiggle toes but not lift heel at all. Sorry for essay and thank you.
Avatar f tn Hello, If the pain is above the knee cap the most common reason might be due to injury to quadriceps muscle or tendon involvement. As you did not have any injury but as you exercise regularly I still would like to suggest you to rule out ligament or tendon injuries by an MRI of the knee. Systemic diseases can give rise to knee problems without injuries like Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, rheumatic fever, septic arthritis etc.
Avatar n tn I went to the doctor and he diagnosed me but I lost the paper. So I do not know what is called. The pain is under both sides of my knee cap. It occurs when I go down stairs; bend my knees to jump, and thrust forward on a bike. The doc said the tendons, or ligaments (I can't remember which) are too weak (due to the fact that my knee are still growing) to keep the knee cap from sliding over to far and causing inflammation and swelling in the knee.
Avatar f tn Whenever I touch it or bruxh it against something I get a bad pain in the side of my knee. Seems odd that an injury on the front of the knee cap and cause such pain on the side. Looking for any info, please help. Thank you.
Avatar n tn the most I can bend is like 90 degrees, after that, I feel a bad pull in my quadriceps muscles. My quadriceps muscles have swollen just above my knee cap. There is no color or pain. It is just that I feel a bad pull when I bend my knee, its swollen, difficult to walk because of the knee bending problem, there is no pain on the swollen part, but it hurts my quadriceps muscles when I try to bend my knee. Please give me a solution to this problem. I will be more than grateful.
Avatar m tn I had a basketball injury today- a player ran his knee into the side of my knee. I went down immediately. I thought it was a knee injury b/c that is what hurt first. Then the pain moved down my leg to the top of my ankle just above the foot. Then the pain moved back up just below the knee to the outside of my upper calf - between the calf and the shin bone. My left side is sore and has a numming feeling. What do you think this injury is?
Avatar n tn but after the lump i am feeling burning sensation and pain in my knee cap and my leg. Also i have th esypmtom of nurves are snapping diffrent part of my body. i am really sacre what to do ?my legs hurt very bad some time.help.can you explain about the lumps please?
Avatar n tn The injury feels like I overstretched something, similar to a pulled muscle. From the squat position it is at the top of the knee, above the cap and painful to any pressure. It has evolved into a dull pain behind the cap and located at the top. I work a desk job and the worst part is keeping the knee in the sitting position. It is really difficult to stand up and straighten it out.
Avatar n tn It also showed some arthritis under the knee cap. The surgery included a scraping and shaping under the knee cap. After surgery there was still sensitivity on the medial side of knee. Surgeon said it was because of the way the knee was held open during surgery and it would fade. It did for a time and now it is back. If I move my left leg from left to right and have some resistance against the foot there will be a sharp pain in the medial meniscus.
Avatar f tn s above the knee cap. Right now I just went for a 5 mile walk with my knee brace on and the front underneath my knee cap is very sore and it hurts to keep my knee bent. I'm a 27 year old female who has never had any knee problems before. I'm a geologist and so I really need my knees to be healthy. Unfortunately my health plan is horrible and really can't afford x-rays and MRI's if it ends up being nothing serious. Thanks!
Avatar m tn Over the next several months I gradually got better, but began to experience a dull stiffness and pressure in my knee cap. Temporary relief would come from rubbing the knee cap gently, primarily on the inside of the knee. I began running again in the summer (8 months post injury) and immediately noticed that I had some new pains associated with running. The head of the fibula bone at the knee would feel sharp pains, on and off, unexplainably.
1850203 tn?1325253608 This is caused by fluid built up under pressure within the knee cavity in response to an inflammatory problem within the knee. Usually no treatment is given if there are no symptoms. If anti-inflammatory medications are not able to take care of the pain, then draining the fluid is an option. Often corticosteroid injections are given at the same time. Patients remain symptoms free for varying periods of time ranging from few days to year or more.
3147730 tn?1343154021 Did you do your PT after surgery? I had surgery back in Mar 2012 for this. I had intense thearpy 2 x weekly for about 2 months. I have my full range of motion BUT like you my knee cap gets off track & I have to jerk my knee back in a quick motion or try to maunevere it until I can hear the pop. It is called an unstable knee cap. Look on line for knee excersices you can do to strengthen your knee muscles & ligaments & even the knee cap. You need thearpy, not pain management.
Avatar f tn But no use, then had advised me to wear knee cap for few days. I was feeling better with knee cap. I removed it after 25 days, it was little better for 2 days, then again the pain is back. After few days, went to orthopedic, he said no problems and advised me to do some exercises. Then also no use. I have still have the pain in my knee and following parts....couldn't talk for more than 10 mins. Could you please advise me how to solve this and become normal.
Avatar n tn I started rubbing my knee and noticed a couple small bumps under the skin and on top of my knee cap, it almost feels like a bead under my skin, and it hurt very bad to touch it. It is on my left leg and floats around the top of my knee cap when I touch it what do i do?
Avatar m tn This happens due to malialignment of the knee cap on bending the knee (and hence any imaging study has to be taken with the knee bent), injury to the knee (you may have sustained it in past), flat feet, over tight or over lax muscles around the knee joint. All these aspects will have to be investigated by your doctor. Other possibilities are bursitis (inflammation of fluid filled sac over joints), tendonitis (inflammation of cords joining muscles to bones) or due to weakness of patellar bone.
Avatar f tn My question is can the cartilage and the knee cap be from that one injury? I never had problems with my knee prior! Workers Comp is saying that it is a genetic defect and I was born with this.
Avatar f tn s not going to do any surgeries on that knee. He said my problem is right under the knee cap. He said Aleeve would be good. I have to stay away from Ibuprophins, tylenol or thing similar the cause my liver enzymes to go up. He wants to get the left knee healthy before doing to much to the other. He also gave an injection in the knee. After the injection yestarday the right knee does feel some better.
