It is continually getting worse and in my shoulders, wrists and right jaw. My left hip joint has gotten better. The pain hurts really bad at night when I am laying and try to move my arms. I am also having trouble chewing with my jaw in pain. I am 63 years old and a Real Estate Agent. I never had a pain at all until after the surgery. I have always been in good health and don't drink or smoke. My arms hurt at work and I have to take at least 4 to 6, 200mg of Motrin a day for pain.
TMJ disorders — a type of temporomandibular disorder or TMD — can cause pain in your jaw joint and in the muscles that control jaw movement.
The exact cause of a person's TMJ disorder is often difficult to determine. Your pain may be due to a combination of factors, such as genetics, arthritis or jaw injury. Some people who have jaw pain also tend to clench or grind their teeth, although many people habitually clench or grind their teeth and never develop TMJ disorders.

There may be pain or tenderness in the face, limitation of movement at the joint, difficulty in chewing, swelling on side of face, clicking sounds in jaw joint etc. A careful history, physical examination and X-rays will help in determining the cause. Consult a dentist. Do keep me posted.

I thought just occurred to me- and me with TMJ dysfunction, arthritis in the jaw joints and bouts of jaw joint capsulitis! That's right about where your jaw joint is! Perhaps when you are relaxed- the jaw joint does not stick out, but later, if you are more stressed, you might clench or something, making the joint evident?
well nevermind anyhow the next day I could barely open my jaw and though not as much pain I cant open my jaw quickly without feeling a little pain. No vision problems or headaces. Also, theres still a little bit of swelling still. Can the temple area stay irritated and slighly swollen usually for 2 weeks without worry?
My neck feels achy and slightly stiff, I get a sharp pain that shoots through my ear when I swallow food and drink. I do have some slight swelling on my jaw. The pain is constant with no relief. I just moved and are without insurance right now. Just wondering if this is something I can wait out or if I should be seen for it and also would like some idea of what this is?
14 yo suffers from excruciating unilateral jaw pain, severe unilateral facial swelling and extreme unilateral eye pain with exercise, fast walking, jogging or playing volleyball/basketball. In general, RA manifests with fever, overall body aches/fatigue, and swelling/redness/pain in more than one joint. Typically, to my knowledge, it rarely starts in the jaw. It'll be your knees, feet, or hands/wrists first. Jaw tightness and pain could simple be stress from worrying about the incident. Give it some time, or better yet if you have a regular dentist, call or go in to see him or her about it.
I have had pain in the left joint of my jaw for years now. As far as I can remember I have not been knocked in that area. The area of pain can stretch from the lower jaw area right up to my ear and can even give me neck pain. It causes pain when I open my mouth wide and always feels like the bones are 'clicking' and 'clunking' out of place. I have had phisio on the joint but that is only a stretch of the muscle and the pan is always present.
I have been having pain behind my right ear on opening my mouth fully for about 2 weeks now. I do not see any redness or swelling surrounding the jaw or ear, the pain seems to be internal. I have no problem with my teeth or gums either. When I try to open my mouth fully, the pain is very severe and also, I have headache, the pain is near the eyebrow and behind my neck. I have on and off fever and chills and also nauseousness and dizziness sometimes.
I have had jaw pain for many days, only on one side, now i have ear and throat pain on the same side, and my jaw hurts so bad, like I had been punched (or so I assume) really har din the jaw. 2 days ago I started feeling this sort of pressure against the bottom of my ear drum area (I estimate). It feels like my ear hole is closed up and the skin is pushing against each other, but there is no infection or swelling on the ear hole or surface anywhere near, I can't see anything abnormal. Popping my ears feels like a very sharp pain. A cotton bud fits inside normally. I can hear perfectly fine. Moving my jaw joint (chewing) isn't unbearable.
I have SLE Lupus so I have had symptoms I believe are related to that, arthritis, joint pain, fatigue to name a few. I originally went to see the ENT because I had swelling from my upper jaw down the side of my neck. I was pretty sure it was a tooth that had been capped the previously year since that's when it all started but wanted to rule out anything else. She said it was probably lupus related and suggested I get physical therapy.
I completely changed my diet prior to seeing the first rheumatologist, and the joint pain got better. 8 months later, my joint pain is not much of a problem (although I can still feel pain). The real problem now is the excessive popping in my wrists, shoulders, and jaw. Just as the joint pain did, the popping started in my wrists, eventually moved to my shoulders, and is now in my jaw as well. I cannot do much of anything without the popping.
Hi there, for me it started when i lose my voice (not competely) but no pain in the throat area. then area around my left jaw joint area (below the ear) starts to feel uncomfortable especially every time i moved my jaw or open my mouth wide to eat something. i dont have toothache etc. then i start to have running nose and nose block. i went to see a GP, he say there is slight infection in the ear and nose. i was on medication for 6 days.
Your symptoms could also be due to temporomandibular (TMJ) joint arthritis. This is the jaw joint and inflammation of this joint can cause pain on opening the mouth and tenderness on palpating behind the ear. Antibiotics need to be started if a source of infection is found, indiscriminate use is not advocated. In the meantime you can take OTC Ibuprofen pain medication. Ensure to take this medication after food to avoid gastritis.

I am sorry to hear you are in so much pain and don't have insurance to get things fixed. Unfortunately jaw joint problems are expensive. Grinding your teeth at night is a big problem because it wears down the joints. For about $300 (dentist) - $600 (orthodontist) you can get a bite splint (retainer) made. It covers your teeth so it prevents damage to the teeth themselves. But it also keeps the jaw joints slighly open at night so you aren't doing as much damage to the jaw joints.
s been having a reoccurring pain/swelling around the neck/jaw area (right hand side - around wisdom tooth but its not that). Sharp kind of pain that suddenly appears and is similar to nerves being trapped more or less. We have seen dentist, doctors and done x-rays, ultra sounds and so on but everything appears to be fine. It calms down with antibiotics but its no cure... Do you have any advice what could be causing this?
