Avatar n tn I have had pain in the left joint of my jaw for years now. As far as I can remember I have not been knocked in that area. The area of pain can stretch from the lower jaw area right up to my ear and can even give me neck pain. It causes pain when I open my mouth wide and always feels like the bones are 'clicking' and 'clunking' out of place. I have had phisio on the joint but that is only a stretch of the muscle and the pan is always present.

Avatar f tn It is continually getting worse and in my shoulders, wrists and right jaw. My left hip joint has gotten better. The pain hurts really bad at night when I am laying and try to move my arms. I am also having trouble chewing with my jaw in pain. I am 63 years old and a Real Estate Agent. I never had a pain at all until after the surgery. I have always been in good health and don't drink or smoke. My arms hurt at work and I have to take at least 4 to 6, 200mg of Motrin a day for pain.
Avatar n tn I have recently started having random joint pain, shoulder, wrist, hand, knee and have found that resting the joint in a splint or brace reallly helps. However, the latest pain is in my jaw - this happened last night. Anybody else had this?
Avatar n tn The jaw joint is less that 1/4 inch away from your ear. Over 5,000 times per day that joint "bangs" on your ear. Take away the protective disk, and there is not much left to keep your ears from hurting. The trigeminal and facial nerves have many branches that project into the ear. Even the slightest dysfunction can cause the ears to hurt. The trigeminal nerve feeds the sinuses and palate.
Avatar m tn hi i get jaw pain alot at night. i have a nite guard from the dentist but it doesnt always help. i get some bad headaches which is muscle pain as i get bothersome shoulders. and advil and tylenol dont help at all. the smornig i woke up and my left ear feels full. it was really itchy inside but only the outside of the ear hurts not the inside at all. i can feel that my jaw joint has like a knot in it. its the headaches i cant stand.
5555569 tn?1369800168 Considering your symptoms of jaw tenderness and pain on chewing, your symptoms could be due to temporomandibular (TMJ) joint arthritis. This is the jaw joint and inflammation of this joint can cause pain on opening the mouth and tenderness on palpation behind the ear. The pain could also be due to an enlarged and inflamed lymph node or salivary gland enlargement. Please consult a dentist for assessment. He may ask for blood tests and an X ray.

Avatar f tn What would cause my bite to shift to the right and pain at the joint of my jaw on the right? Could this change account for my having a constant eadache?
Avatar f tn t afford that, being a student, so I settled for taking an Aleve whenever the pain gets worse. Now there seems to be a nodule in the hollow of my jaw, just below the TMJ (again, left side only)/ I have pointed this bump out to clinic doctors, and no one gives it any credibility. It's causing pain, and I wonder if it's something to worry about.
Avatar m tn TMJ disorders — a type of temporomandibular disorder or TMD — can cause pain in your jaw joint and in the muscles that control jaw movement. The exact cause of a person's TMJ disorder is often difficult to determine. Your pain may be due to a combination of factors, such as genetics, arthritis or jaw injury. Some people who have jaw pain also tend to clench or grind their teeth, although many people habitually clench or grind their teeth and never develop TMJ disorders.
Avatar f tn My oral surgeon suggested some exercises I could do and it did help a little. The instant headache pain i had went away because the regular jaw joint pain I was having suddenly didn't reach my right eye . I have had no improvement since and my o/s wants me to start therapy. Will this help ? Starting to think there will be no end to this , each meal is painful , getting really sick of this.
Avatar n tn Considering your symptoms of point tenderness and pain inside the mouth, your symptoms could be due to temporomandibular (TMJ) joint arthritis. This is the jaw joint and inflammation of this joint can cause pain on opening the mouth and tenderness on palpating behind the ear. As you have tongue ulcers, it could also be a lymph node enlargement. Please consult a dentist for assessment. He may even ask for blood tests and an X ray. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn I doubt the pain in your jaw is lockjaw, more commonly known as tetanus. Tetanus requires an open wound to enter the body, so if you have no wounds, you do not have tetanus. Do you know when your last tetanus shot was? They are good for approximately 10 years. You would also have other serious symptoms which do not include some minor jaw pain when sneezing. You do know I'm not a doctor, right?
Avatar m tn Hi i am having problem of jaw joint dysfunction , i feel pain & clicking sounds in my temporomandibular joint of jaw. I cant move my freely. Please tell me what to do ?
Avatar m tn Therese, sometimes a very large yawn can pop the mandible (jaw bone) out of its joint socket, stressing neighboring tendons and the ligaments that hold the mandible in place. Some people report hearing a loud 'pop' when this happens. This is called "hyperextension" of the mandibular joint, and can be very painful. There are also large nerves that enter the mandible near this joint, and pass through the large masseter muscle used for chewing.
Avatar m tn Pain usually appears in the joint itself, in front of the ear, but it may move elsewhere in the skull, face, or jaw. TMJ syndrome may cause ear pain, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), and hearing loss. Sometimes people mistake TMJ pain for an ear problem or sinus problem, such as an infection, when the ear or sinus' is not the problem at all. Imaging: X-rays may be taken of the mouth and jaw. CT or MRI may also be used.

Avatar n tn I have been in sever pain for 5 weeks now. It started with shoulder pain that was so bad I hyperventilated and they called the ambulance. The ER doc said it was frozen shoulder. It is not, this pain has since traveled all over my body affecting all my joints. It is debilitatingly painful in my hands, fingers, elbow, shoulder, hip, knees, ankles, and even my jaw. It affects different sides of my body at any given time.
Avatar n tn basically what this means is the joint where the upper and lower jaw meet is called in short the tmj. it can make a popping or clicking or cause pain. it sometimes can be helped by wearing a device that helps with the nightime grinding or clenching. chewing gum and hard foods will make it worse. your dentist needs to evaluate by an exam and probably a panoramic xray to look at the joint themselves. sometimes a poor bite is the cause which braces can help.
Avatar f tn I cannot get my neck massaged in great detail or I get such intense jaw pain for the next week, its unbelievable-- even that I think is crazy as to how much the pain flares without touching my 'sore spots'. I went to a chiropractor and they were able to isolate my 'sore spots' and estimate where the true problems are coming from.
Avatar n tn How are you? A common problem affecting the jaw joint is called temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJD), where the jaw joint does not open or close correctly. The most common symptoms include: pain ,usually a dull ache in and around the ear, cheek bone or neck; headache especially in the morning, jaw joint clicking or jaw locking; Symptoms may be worse during certain everyday activities such as chewing or yawning, and you may find they are worse if you are stressed. I hope this helps.
Avatar f tn If there is jaw pain on opening your mouth, it could just be the trauma causing a temporomandibular joint disorder. To get some relief you can try massaging the sore muscles. You have to press on muscles of your face to look for sore points. Then massage these points with short strokes. To massage the masseter muscles on each side of your jaw, place your thumb inside your mouth and squeeze the thick muscle in your cheek with your fingers.
Avatar m tn I have had chronic joint pain now for 2 and 1/2 years. It started with low back pain(severe ache, no sharp pains) and spread to my hip joints. I suspected arthritis of some sort, but after X-Rays, MRI's and seeing several different doctors(GP, Orthopedic dr., chiropractor's etc) they have no diagnosis.
