Ibuprofen for tmj

Common Questions and Answers about Ibuprofen for tmj

ibuprofen

Avatar f tn s too bad, because when I was first told I had osteoarthritis in my jaw joints (could hardly open my mouth at the time), I was told ibuprofen was the drug of choice for TMJ. I have issues of my own with too much ibuprofen, so while I take it cyclically occasionally when things get really bad, sometimes I take it occasionally or opt for acetaminophen extra strength (and at times w/my prescribed diazepam).
483733 tn?1326798446 Look at the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain website for the referral area. I know how difficult and frustrating it is for patients to find the correct treatment. Hope you find it.
Avatar n tn I have TMJ - your symptoms sound alot like a mild case of TMJ. Your best bet is to go to your dentist and have xrays taken so that he/she can rule out any infection. I wish you luck, if it is TMJ it's very hard to get rid of....keep us posted!
Avatar f tn The only meds I'm on currently are the Vyvanse (50 mg) for ADHD, and Nuvaring. When my TMJ flares up, I manage it with over-the-counter ibuprofen (I'll usually take 4 200mg tablets) and a joint pain topical rub (I usually use the generic version of IcyHot). It doesn't get rid of all the pain, but it dulls it enough so that I can function. I also frequently develop sinus headaches (about 3 or 4 times a week), which I'm pretty sure are related to the TMJ.
Avatar f tn I also take gabapentin and and an antidepressant as I have other health issues as well as TMJ. And I have paracetamol, codeine and oramorph for the pain. I am due to have an MRI soon to have a look at the joints (I have pain on both sides). I think the next stage would be to flush out the joints. Have you had any treatment yet?
Avatar m tn hard to chew, you say when you talk for a long time it is uncomfortable ,that does sound like TMJ to do with your jaw .We may have a forum that deals with that here on Med Help I will take a look ..
Avatar f tn I've had TMJ/TMD for a little over a year. I first visited my dentist, who created a night guard for me - which didn't work. Then, I went to a TMJ specialist, who made a different night guard - which also didn't work. Now I'm in physical therapy . The physical therapist believes my TMJ is caused by my scoliosis, so we've been doing exercises for my spine - which of course, doesn't work.
Avatar f tn Maybe TMJ because that pain is similar. Check with dentist.
Avatar f tn It has been four days now but I have this weird pressure in my temple that doesn't go away. It almost feels as though it radiates to the bone behind my ear. I have migraines and have taken plenty of ibuprofen and my rizatriptan and those aren't making it go away. It doesn't ache really it just feels heavy. I also grind my teeth at night but I am not sure why I'd only have it on one side but I have tried my Flexeril as well and that hasn't helped.
2932946 tn?1344722012 I'm not sure if TMJ is common with Chiari or not, but I do have both. The best thing I have found to help with my TMJ is a mouth guard from my dentist that I use at night. I tried over the counter guards, but this is the only one that has worked for me. I also take aleve or another OTC pain killer before going to the dentist because holding my mouth open that wide makes my jaw hurt. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Night guard(tmj orthosis, occlusal appliance) is highly effective to manage tmd, but it depends on who fabricated the appliance. Seeing a competent tmj specialist is advised. Conventional NSAID,such as ibuprofen is generally not effective for tmd. Tricyclic antidepressant, such as amitryptyline , is more effective than NSAIDs.Seeing an orofacial pain specialist is advised if pharmacologic management is intervened.
Avatar f tn Ibuprofen is considered the drug of choice (or at least it was over 8 years ago, according to the first oral and maxillofacial place I went to for my TMJ) for the TMJs- cyclic is how they had me taking it to knock down inflammation. They had me on 800 mg every 8 hours prescription medication for weeks, but that was my situation, not yours. Did the doctor give instructions re: you and ibuprofen?
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with bursitis a few months ago ,its so painful can't sleep on my right side got a cortisone shot and that helped a Lil bit.now I turned 42 in may this year ,I swear the next I felt this horrible slight burning pain in both my arms that I feel in my shoulders and goes all the way to my hands.I'm so worried that this has something to do with bursitis, or thar my bursitis was misdiagnosed and it's arthritis.
Avatar m tn Pain that gets worse during the day sounds more like a TMJ than a tooth problem. I would find a TMJ specialist. Limited opening is only caused by a few things, mostly infection or TMD.
1276426 tn?1271017738 It sound like you have TMJ dysfunction. It is possible you have arthritis in your jaw. I have osteoarthritis in my own jaws. I was told to use my fingers to keep myself from yawning too wide and that I would need to be on a soft diet the rest of my life. I was told I need to limit my talking on the phone and singing. I've been wearing flat planed splint nightly, prescribed by maxillofacial specialists to try to prevent my arthritis from worsening and it seems to be helping.
Avatar n tn Okay, so about a year ago I started getting this very annoying soreness behind my jaw on both sides and at first I thought it might be TMJ ( I still kinda do) but I havn't ever gotten any popping sensation behind my jaw or terrible sharp pains so far, also ibuprofen/ tylonel don't seem to do anything Anyhow i'm just seeing what any of you have to say if you need any more info just let me know Also what kind of doctor would I visit for something like this?
Avatar n tn I went to the dentist and had xrays and he tapped on my teeth and blew air on them. I was on augmentin for a week, nothing. Could it be tmj or should I go back to the doctor?
618620 tn?1221279360 Thanks for the comment! I use to have TMJ so my dentist said that when I got braces it would correct the problem and it did. I hope that it is a sinus issue...
Avatar f tn Any one out there have any suggestions for TMJ/TMD? I've been from doctor to doctor (MD, Nuerologist, Accupunture, Chiro and PT).....nothing seems to help. I also do the hot moist compresses. I dont care if I cant open my mouse as wide as I used to but I need these HEADACHES to go away. They are stopping me from living live as I used to. Any help would be apprecaited. What has worked for you?
Avatar n tn would a chiropractor work?
