Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy surgical procedure

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn ve gotten some REALLY good advice regarding the hysterectomy. To undergo a completely unnecessary surgical procedure simply for birth control is far too radical. Since you are in very good health, have had NO problems with the Mirena and it's obviously working, why fix what isn't broken? Why take ANY unnecessary risks with a surgical procedure? My advice is have a new device fitted and let nature takes it's course!
Avatar f tn I had an A&P repair in Dec 04. It was done vaginally and the doctor did not mention anything about a possible hyst. I am a nurse and read the pre-op top to bottom and nothing anywhere mentioned the possibility. While I was on the table the "doc" called my husband and told him that my uterus "had to come out". He was at work and my mother was with me at the hospital. He has NO medical experience. He is a surveyor.
Avatar f tn It depends on your age and it would require medicine and a surgical procedure on your part and a surrogateto carry the baby.
Avatar n tn I have a fibroid about the size of a grapefruit on my uterus and at least 2 smaller ones. My doctor was going to try the procedure wherein they go in and cut off the blood supply to the fibroid when she thought it was just one. Now that she has learned through an ultrasound that there are multiple fibroids, she said that procedure is not an option as it would basically cut off the blood supply to the uterus if they did that for each fibroid.
Avatar n tn t want to go through a surgical procedure and then end up having to have a hysterectomy in the long run. Naturally, I also don't want to have a hysterectomy and end up with complications and am really afraid of menopause. Any advise you might have would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn THis happened to Me and let Me tell you it has RUINED My life. Exact same thing NEVER constipated before hysterectomy. Docs just dismiss you. Its total BS! Im so sorry you are going thru this. SOme days I just feel hopeless now and wish to die because of this. Had My hysterectomy in Jan and now no health ins. due to job loss and divorce. Im really scared now what will happen to me as I just know I will need surgery to correct.
Avatar f tn I would like to hear from any lady who has suffered similar cathostrophic problems following abdominal hysterectomy. My story can be found on the ovarian cancer community. Offending surgical clips. Mirade.
Avatar m tn For one, you were not told the truth about ovarian function after hysterectomy. There is a good chance (about 40%) that the ovaries will fail after hysterectomy due to the loss of blood flow. But even women who appear to have "normal" ovarian function after hysterectomy suffer with they same symptoms as you. It is a myth that the uterus is disposable after childbearing. It has hormonal, anatomical, skeletal, and sexual functions.
Avatar n tn I am a 43 year old white female and had a Surgical hysterectomy on Sept 5. I am dying of the night sweats to the point I have 5 fans going at all times the AC/ and thank GOD we have been having a cold spell here in Nashville so I have had the window open. I was wondering if anyone has done any of the hormone replacement that is natural? I am going crazy and need help.
Avatar n tn Hi MassSheila, welcome to the Urogynecology community! The goal of course if for you to urinate without cathing at all. Since every woman's experience post surgery is unique the frequency and timing of cathing will vary, these are specifics you should get directly from the NP at your physician's office.
Avatar f tn I am scheduled for a hysterectomy in the next 2 weeks after 6 months post ablation and left ovary and tube removal. I will now be losing my right ovary and uterus. The Dr said she will attempt to do it laparoscopic but may have to open my stomach like a c section. Has anyone ever had a hysterectomy that started out laparoscopic then went to abdominal? Do you have any advice for recovery ? Tips? Heads up?
Avatar n tn I totally agree with Pam and Ireneo. Is there a way you can get a second opinion? I had a radical (uterus, ovaries, cervix, tubes, etc,) hysterectomy at age 47. I had no other choice at the time, but if there was a way that I could have been treated without a procedure that sent me into instant "surgical" menopause....well, 8 years later, I can tell you that I would have tried to avoid that type of menopause at all costs.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your comment i have just been so upset because i thought i did something wrong but everyone i talk to tells me ive done nothing wrong
1472677 tn?1330175915 It has been a year since my TOTAL hysterectomy. I have seen four OBGYN specialist's since then. Not one has given me any answers about after care. I am on Estrogen (low dose). My estrogen level is still low along with all the factors. I am having stoach pain, my skin is wrinkly, vaginal dryness, cracked nails, a lot of back pain, night sweats, I am pale all the time, sex forget it for the pain is unbearable, urin sprays all over, depression, mood swings and a lot more....
Avatar f tn But the shortening of the vagina with hysterectomy (with removal of cervix) can also be a source of pain. Nerve damage is also a possibility from the hysterectomy and/or surgical repairs. Was the sling the mesh that has been shown to erode and cause infection? If so, that could be the cause. Hope you get answers and relief.
Avatar f tn s just what I read in the literature available for this particular procedure. Unfortunately there is not a lot available. The procedure itself isn't done a lot and the reason that I am having it done there are only about 100 cases recorded in literature, so there's not a lot out there.
Avatar f tn PVH-Partial Vaginal Hysterectomy, even abdominal procedure, still the risk factors and complications remain more or less the same. Post surgical complications are pain, bleeding, infection.Other side effects of surgery are Hormonal changes (preserved ovaries?) estrogen imbalance, decreased testosterone-finally emotional changes of mood swings-Increased risk of cardiovascular and skeletomuscular diseases.
222282 tn?1210164939 Depending on the type, duration, and location of the ureteral injury, surgical treatment may range from simple removal of a ligature to ureteroneocystostomy. The most common surgical treatments for ureteral injury are simple removal of a ligature, ureteral stenting, ureteral resection and ureteroureterostomy, transureteroureterostomy, and ureteroneocystostomy" "If tissue ischemia or a partial transection of the ureteral wall is suspected, a ureteral stent should be placed.
Avatar n tn There are other alternatives but suggested as a last resort. There is presciptions that may help or a surgical procedure that attachs a sling around the bladder to support it and this usually helps with incontinence.
Avatar f tn that is fine if all they would find doing biopsies was anything that would point to chemo - but what if they found more that would have meant possible hysterectomy? I am not sure about this - I think more should have been done just in case.............does this make sense? I know I am really lucky and I am really relieved......but something isn't sitting right with me about this......I don't get it........why nothing more was done. I start chemo on the 28th......
Avatar n tn Very rarely, a woman gets a stretched-out vagina after many childbirths and if that is the story, perhaps your ob-gyn can suggest a surgical procedure to tighten the vagina. But you REALLY need to know why your husband feels the way he does, to be able to solve the problem.
Avatar f tn I was immediately ordered for a heart caterization which found no blockages. I had never undergone anesthesia prior to that procedure and had trouble coming out of it. When they tried to have me sit up, I immediately had severe head pain, my blood pressure dropped significanty, chest pain, vomiting, numbness in my extremities and face, couldn't catch my breath. They gave me morphine and could not figure out what caused the attack. Could my reaction been because of the NMH?
Avatar f tn they were all great but I am still scared that I will never feel normal again. This is my fourth surgery in seven years including a complete hysterectomy. This is my first attempt at excision and I could use some reassurance from any of you who have had success with this surgery....thanks!
Avatar n tn The tumor did not show on transvaginal testing, however concurrently i had a large cyst removed from my left ovary and thankfully the other one was found on my right side. I am scheduled to have a hysterectomy next week, 4 weeks after my first surgery. i have the option of having a robotic assisted surgery using the davinci system or i can opt for the standard procedure.
Avatar f tn Do you have to get a PAP smear after a total hysterectomy to include ovaries? I’ve been on divigel and the doctors office will not refill my prescription with out a PAP smear.
