7450908 tn?1390996321 How long does a pregnancy last in a small dog? How do I find out for sure if she is pregnant. Is there anything that I need to keep a look out for as her pregnancy progresses? How can I keep her vitamins up to date & is it safe to give her vitamins or anything else, during pregnancy?
Avatar n tn Dogs stop growing at different ages, depending on breed. Larger dogs stop growing later, smaller dogs earlier. For a Pointer, it will probably be around 1 year, or maybe a little more. Don't you worry about him being a runt! Unless you intend to show him, it won't matter. As long as he is well-nourished through the growing period (and of course well cared-for after) he should grow to be perfectly fit and well. If he's a little smaller than his breed, does that matter?
Avatar n tn Hi, Calm down and just let your cat know where the food, water and litter are. I assure you that in your cat's own time he/she will begin to feel less fear and come around. I had to take in my daughter's cat into my house with 2 dogs and a cat. Her cat stayed as far away as possible for months, and when we saw her on the stairs and we reached to try to pet her she swiped at us.
397560 tn?1220022177 The only dog bite I ever got in my life was from a small mixed breed terrier. I was in 6th grade and riding my bike home from a friend's house. Across the street was a slovenly looking man sitting on his front porch with his dog. The dog raced over to me and latched on to my leg while his owner did not move one muscle. Well, maybe he exercised the hand that was holding his beer, but I was more involved with trying to remove his dog from my calf at the time.
2154088 tn?1336592380 This is a very tricky case and I am not sure how much help I will be. Chronic hypoglycemia is often due to a hormonal imbalance or for older dogs a tumor attached to the pancreas (insulinoma). But in this case I wonder if your dog has epilepsy and is seizuring/hallucinating (staring at the wall) and the sympotms are being confused with a low blood sugar level. Hypoglycemia can cause seizures however primary epilepsy is more common. The neurologist will be able to help a lot. Good luck.
212161 tn?1599427282 The dogs that are being sold as "teacup" dogs are, for the most part, simply the runts of litters of normal-sized representatives of their breeds. There are always unscrupulous people who will try to make a buck off something just because they can, and the "teacup" dog scam is probably one of the most profitable. Many teacup dogs have heart defects or other problems, and the worst problems come when money hungry people try to use teacup dogs to produce litters of puppies.
Avatar f tn Although i dont own a dog i have always wanted to and i have helped quite a few dogs before by secretly taking them in behind my mums back and then finding homes for them. My favourite breed would have to be a husky because i love the intensity of their eyes and because they look like my spirit animal which is a wolf.
765802 tn?1263300851 Believe me, I don't envy you the task of keeping them separated! :) When intact males are around a female in season they can be VERY persistent and VERY resourceful in terms of finding a way to get to her. Losing track of one of them for a nanosecond can result in an unwanted breeding, and the bad thing about it is if she allows one of them to breed her and they manage to achieve a tie (where the two dogs become "stuck" together), she will almost ALWAYS turn up pregnant.
543578 tn?1214412007 Well today he did the same thing for no reason it just happened and this time I noticed his eyes got real big and it looked like he was in a trance or something, I of course freaked out when he started to salivate uncontrollably and then he started to foam at the mouth. it only lasted a few seconds then he was fine. I am disabled and he is a service dog I can't afford the vet but if i have to I will find a way to come up with money. My question is could this be a seizure?
Avatar m tn org and research breeds. If you see a breed you might be interested in, do a search for the National breed Club and read up on the breed, temperament, potential health problems, etc. Good luck and please come back to update.
Avatar f tn i am not rich but would love to have a small breed puppy i live in aprtment and large breed would be cruel to lack of room. I really want a companion but can not afford the fee the rescues are charging.
Avatar f tn The fact that this puppy is only four months old is baffling, because idiopathic epilepsy usually is first seen in dogs in the 2-3 year old range. While it is not unheard of for it to occur in young puppies, in their case it is more often due to a head injury or some type of illness, like hypoglycemia. Reno007, what breed(s) is this puppy? Is he a large breed mix? A toy mix? How many times a day are you feeding him?
82861 tn?1333453911 using their snouts to score goals. If you have a small dog, avoid the urge to carry him around in your arms or worse, in a bag. They may be small, but they're still dogs and they need to get around under their own steam. If you can't mean a dog's exercise requirements, you shouldn't have a dog. General Responsibilities. Do not rely on your children to take care of your dog's needs.
Avatar n tn In the meantime, you might try contacting the German Shepherd Dog Club of America. It is the official breed club connected with the AKC in the US. Check out their web site, as there is a wealth of information on breed standards, health and genetics that would be useful for any breeder. http://www.gsdca.org/base/index.
2112931 tn?1335098402 Hey Sandy, It took me around 2 years of "thinking about getting a dog" before I found him, Hobo is a Golden Retriever cross Golden Labrador. He's classed as a big breed, he's just turned 1 and the last time he was weighed he was just on 45kilo. His coat is a double layer so he needs brushing to keep on top of knots, he sheds though about as much as our cat and I think he's lower maintenance overall, than any of the small breed dogs we've had over the years.
914336 tn?1243105303 ) so, just make sure the size dog fits in with your schedule/lifestyle. Too many dogs end up in shelters because folks don't consider the commitment- often dogs are part of your family for 12-14.5 years.
Avatar n tn You also have to consider the genetic health of your dog before deciding to breed her. In breeds like this, it is more important than in any other breeds to make sure she came from a breeder who is breeding their dogs with the improvement of the breed in mind and not someone who simply bred their pet because they wanted to have a litter of puppies, because there ARE so many health issues with the bulldog breeds.
Avatar n tn Golden Retrievers and Labradors are good family dogs who can probably do fine outdoors but if you live in a very cold climate you probably wouldn't want to leave any dog outside too long. I had a friend who had huskies and cats and they all got along. The huskies also had a thick enough coat to stay outside a lot. She also had kids and they all got along. But she got them as puppies and I think that makes a difference too.
535822 tn?1443976780 Well thank you for that information about Jack Russells I will make a note of that there are plenty of smallish dogs need homes, as an animal lover ,Ginger I do agree about them being in Jail in shelters,I beleive that I can do it online aswell, I had a lab from a shelter many years ago, we had him for 13 years, he was my last dog its time for another one.
Avatar n tn I have a really outstanding female dog who happens to be the highest scoring dog in the country (for her breed) in several hunting tests. She has OFA Excellent hips and is a conformation champion as well. I have found a really nice stud dog and I would like to breed my dog. The only problem is that her dad did have some allergies.
445783 tn?1279807333 Other than that, look for a breed that you think will fit into your lifestyle. Every dog, small or large needs daily exercise, but some breeds need more to stay healthy and mentally balanced. If your family isn't very active, a high-energy breed like a dalmation wouldn't be a good fit. If you don't have a yard, or even a small one, obviously a large dog wouldn't be a good choice. You might consider adopting a mutt with submissive personality traits.
Avatar f tn That's very strange for A Chihuahua usually their very energetic dogs. It worry's me since Chihuahuas are normally very healthy breed of dog. I'm a Chihuahua owner myself so I did some research when I got my girl Cleopatra. Tho Chihuahuas get a medical condition called Hypoglycemia in which if the miss a meal they get very lethargic they need to learn to eat tiny meals through out the day.
Avatar f tn A neighbor of ours rescued a Tri-pod Pitt and she is the sweetest thing But she is way to interested in the small dogs in the neighborhood. At least her owner always has her on lead but I told my husband not to let our little one too close. Well, off my soap box. We just have to keep talking and educating as many as we can and pray they don't feel sorry for that "doggie in the window".
Avatar n tn Sometimes dogs will produce large amounts of acid if they go too long in between meals. While this is more common in bulldogs, it can happen in any breed. It sounds like this is what is happening with your lab. You can apply a quick fix to this by feeding him a biscuit or two very late at night. This should keep his hunger down and the acid in his stomach to a minimum until breakfast.
Avatar n tn You probably see it more in mix breeds. I have two small breed dogs hete now with different color nails.
