Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia yorkies dogs

hypoglycemia

Avatar f tn Add to that, for some reason, these small dogs can be so hard to house train. I had Yorkies years ago and had a male (neutered) that just would not stop marking my dining room table.
Avatar n tn This dog needs to be at the vet's NOW. Yorkies are very small dogs, and to go two days without food or water can make for a very dangerous situation for them. They can become hypoglycemic very quickly if they don't eat for more than a few hours at a time and they can dehydrate very quickly without water, especially after two days. Hypoglycemia can lead to seizures and other serious health issues.

Avatar m tn Ive got a boy apple head chihuahua about 7yr and a girl thats the same kind shes 1yr 6mon.They are the only dogs ive really had and got close to.
Avatar n tn It really is just not worth taking the chance of breeding her, there are just too many things that can go wrong. With larger dogs the risk is great enough, but with the tiny dogs, the risk is SO much bigger! Please, do your dog a favor and talk your mom out of wanting to breed her. Have your dog spayed, and if your mom wants another puppy, buy her one either from a responsible breeder or adopt one for her from Yorkie rescue.
Avatar f tn Is it better to shave my dogs hair or leave it long, in regards to my daughters dog dander allergy? I have 2 Yorkies and I usually only shave them in the spring, but I'm wondering if keeping them shaved year round will help.
Avatar n tn I have 2 Yorkies - they had started to sneeze alot but never to the point of nosebleeds . My vet said it was allergies & told my to give them 5cc's ( 1 TSP ) of CHILDRENS Benadryl . U can get a syringe from the pharmacy to administer the liquid . I have had great results ... they hardly sneeze at all anymore . Good luck ! They even like the taste - I get the bubblegum flavor - it's like a treat for them .
Avatar m tn Both yorkies have eaten flint river pup food until about 2 months ago I changed them to senior formula. Vet also gave pro pectalin pills. No good. I started her on plain rice today and will try pumpkin. I am very frustrated with my vet as he seems not to explore many possibilities. I have read most posts and sounds as though probiotics could be in the answer pool Many thanks and hope you can give me some ideas. Tearing my heart out.
Avatar n tn my yorkies jawline hurts to the touch, he is not playful like he usually is but is eating and drinking water, can you tell me what is causing the pain?
Avatar m tn I assume you mean 2lbs., correct? Yorkies only weigh 6-7 lbs to begin with... Sudden intake of more water, excessive hunger, etc. are symptoms of various diseases such as Thyroid Disease, Kidney disease, Cushings, Diabetes, Liver disease, along w/others..... All of these are treatable & easier to control if caught early......Please don't wait......Get your guy in to be checked ASAP. Good luck and let us know what you find out......
7754230 tn?1408540347 I'm 15 weeks and work in a grooming salon with 2 other pregnant women, believe me the dog knows. Most dogs won't really react differently. At work some dogs known to be aggressive aren't and some dogs that are really sweet will growl and won't let us touch them. It's weird.
Avatar f tn I have Heard that smaller Dogs like her have a hard time carrying puppies from bigger Dogs and that it can kill them if the puppies are too large for her to carry. I'm really concerned because She has been showing all of the early signs of pregnancy. Even though the weiner dog isn't a big dog, he is bigger than her. HELP!
Avatar f tn She also was running around with her hackles up and starting fights with my other dogs...She only had 3 or 4 days of it and then I took her off of it this last Sunday was her last dose...She still is not wanting to eat and not 100% back to herself? How long do the side effects last...It was taking me an hour and a half to get her to eat 2 cups of food...I'm really hoping she will return to her normal self again soon...Any idea how long before it will be out of her system?
Avatar n tn you should take him to a vet, but whatever you do make sure he eats and stays hydrated weather he does it on his own or you do it.
Avatar f tn Hello everyone my 1year old Yorkie passed away yesterday, I had two Yorkies the mom (Tiffany)3yrold and the daughter (Chanel) 1yrold they would both share a kennel since I had an XL kennel. Yesterday when I got back from work I let them out to use the restroom like usual and I noticed Chanel was no longer with us she has very stiff and I noticed a bite mark on her neck.
Avatar f tn Welcome......Some young dogs do get Juvenile Cataracts that are best to be removed....I don't know of any remedy or cures for cataracts.... There are also diseases that cause certain types of cataracts such as Diabetes...Your Vet will need to do blood work to rule this out..... Cushings Disease is possible, but your dog seems too young... That leaves me with an eye infection.....
10821430 tn?1439580883 Sorry it should have read NONE of my other dogs have any symptoms other than his dam having Pancreatitis when she was younger and no problems since.
Avatar m tn Mami, I understand she is attached to the yorkies - I get that. But I had dogs before I had kids, and I thought I loved my dogs like I love my kids, but boy was I wrong!! I hope your friend won't suffer as much from losing her yorkies - because that will surely happen. They will live a long full and enjoyable life, and then they'll die. Both of them. Unless your friend is advanced in years herself, she can fully expect to bury her yorkies.

Avatar f tn can cause bleeding, which can be stopped .... check dog nail trimming out on Youtube. Some dogs, maybe most, will fight back. A good natured dog will just try to pull the foot back. The nail trimming will likely also suggest how to best stop bleeding if the wick is cut. The video should help you learn what to look for before you cut. Best approach is cut just a little and see how it goes. You can always come back the next day and take more nail off.
Avatar f tn Agree with bnc and knufrio. Yiu took the dog in as part of the family. Give him a chance. Bring the baby's things from the hospital so he can get used to the smell. Always supervise him with the baby. I have two dogs (pom/yorkie, 4, and Chihuahua 1) and they are my babies too. It would break my heart to get rid of either or both of them.
Avatar f tn A while back, last summer, I had been on a road trip from minnesota back to missouri, I hardly ate anything but a little bit of puppy chow and some cheese curds, that night while trying to unpack before eating I got really dizzy and shaky, I realize at this point it was most likely from low blood sugar due to not eating, but not every time I go for a few hours without eating when I start to feel hungry I get really shaky and anxious, do you think this is hypoglycemia developing or just associati
2154088 tn?1336592380 This is a very tricky case and I am not sure how much help I will be. Chronic hypoglycemia is often due to a hormonal imbalance or for older dogs a tumor attached to the pancreas (insulinoma). But in this case I wonder if your dog has epilepsy and is seizuring/hallucinating (staring at the wall) and the sympotms are being confused with a low blood sugar level. Hypoglycemia can cause seizures however primary epilepsy is more common. The neurologist will be able to help a lot. Good luck.
