hypoglycemia

Avatar f tn A while back, last summer, I had been on a road trip from minnesota back to missouri, I hardly ate anything but a little bit of puppy chow and some cheese curds, that night while trying to unpack before eating I got really dizzy and shaky, I realize at this point it was most likely from low blood sugar due to not eating, but not every time I go for a few hours without eating when I start to feel hungry I get really shaky and anxious, do you think this is hypoglycemia developing or just associati
2154088 tn?1336592380 This is a very tricky case and I am not sure how much help I will be. Chronic hypoglycemia is often due to a hormonal imbalance or for older dogs a tumor attached to the pancreas (insulinoma). But in this case I wonder if your dog has epilepsy and is seizuring/hallucinating (staring at the wall) and the sympotms are being confused with a low blood sugar level. Hypoglycemia can cause seizures however primary epilepsy is more common. The neurologist will be able to help a lot. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Hi. I hadn't heard of ehrlichiosis before, but now I have read up on it, I feel more informed. Nothing suggests hypoglycemia is related to the primary condition, but that's just after reading a few of the specs available about it. It may be that others more informed and more knowledgable may have other useful information to give you. I am posting partly to push your message up ahead of others on the forum, as no one else has come back with anything yet (14hrs after you posted) ...
Avatar f tn Take him to the vet. Dogs don't usually have bacterial or viral infections like the stomach flu that make them sick. It takes a lot for them to stop eating, so he should be evaluated to make sure he hasn't ingested a foreign body or gotten into any toxins. He should also have a stool sample checked to make sure he doesn't have any worms that are causing a GI upset and diarrhea.
Avatar n tn What else was done besides taking the dogs temperature?
Avatar n tn many infectious diseases including Lyme disease, endocrine disorders, hypoglycemia, toxins, parasites, cancers, and many more. Some seizures can cause damage to the brain, hyperthermia (which can effect all organs of the body), can cause additional trauma, can cause cardiovascular abnormalities (abnormal heart function). If the seizure is due to an insulinoma, for example, the hypoglycemia that the insulinoma causes can be life threatening, if untreated.
Avatar n tn Like 2dawn said always consult your doctor another old discussion here. http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Hepatitis-C/HR--mixing-ALA-and-R--ALA-dangerous/show/1292687 I wouldn't consider taking this myself especially during a new treatment. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lipoic_acid This article needs more medical references for verification or relies too heavily on primary sources. Avatar n tn A tiny Chi (Especially a puppy) cannot go without nourishment for this long....Without food, tiny dogs can go into hypoglycemic shock....Plus, the diarrhea you speak of in your other post will cause dehydration....Dehydration alone can be deadly....Do not force feed her, but you need to get liquids in her till you can get her to a Vet.....Pedialyte (For babies) would be best.....You can buy it at any store.....Pick up a syringe at the same time to use to get her to drink... 24 hrs.
Avatar m tn My dog (who is not a puppy) does some strange things and makes some weird noises during dreams and sleep. She howls, moans, yips, breathes like she's running a marathon, snores...... So weird breathing CAN be just a dreaming-thing. The length of time it takes to really "wake up" can vary with dogs too. Mine wakes instantly, but some dogs are dozy for a minute or two after waking.
Avatar f tn I have a 6mth old Chihuahua puppy that's has been having episodes where he starts yelping and then goes stiff then limp and for a split second stops breathing. Afterwards he seems as if he is extremely week and lays there, when he tries to lift his head he is really shaky. After bout a min or so he is fine and just wants alot of water. I have heard of Chihuahua's have hypoglycemia and seizures. But when i have looked up the symptoms of them both these do not match.
543578 tn?1214412007 t necessarily mean that he is epileptic, since chihuahuas are VERY prone to hypoglycemia, which can cause seizures. It might not amount to you having to give him an anti-seizure drug every day, if it's caused by hypoglycemia you can combat the seizures by giving her several small meals a day instead of feeding her once a day as you would an adult dog.
Avatar n tn Did he run some lab work and urinalysis? Here is an article about kidney disease in dogs and how to manage it long term. It was extremely helpful to me when my dog developed it. The entire article runs about 40 printed pages. http://www.dogaware.com/kidney.
Avatar f tn That's very strange for A Chihuahua usually their very energetic dogs. It worry's me since Chihuahuas are normally very healthy breed of dog. I'm a Chihuahua owner myself so I did some research when I got my girl Cleopatra. Tho Chihuahuas get a medical condition called Hypoglycemia in which if the miss a meal they get very lethargic they need to learn to eat tiny meals through out the day.
Avatar f tn Is anyone else having hypoglycemia (which is low blood sugar abt an hr or 2 after meals)? I'm 26wks and been having it for around a week now.How do u usually deal with it when it strikes?
Avatar n tn Hi - I'm new here. I have pre-diabetes (about 2 years now) and have autoimmune degenerative neuropathy (CIDP for 26 years) unrelated to diabetes. I am not overweight, and am 32 years of age. My question is: does inflammation in the nervous system cause alterations in glucose metabolism? I'm currently having multiple daily bouts of hypoglycemia - my doctors can't/won't answer my question. I'm taking IVIG, Imuran and Ultram - no steroids or antidiabetics.
Avatar n tn 71 is normal but again I felt horrible, weak, shaky, anxiety, etc. Could this be something other than Hypoglycemia? Before I had lunch I ran 2.5 miles on the treatmill and felt fine so this is beginning to puzzle me.
Avatar n tn (I think he was embarassed to call and say I was having leg cramps). I told him this was something more than just leg cramps. The hypoglycemia episode followed by SEVERE leg cramps and then nausea concerns me. I have hypoglycemia episodes once or twice a week but do try and control the with diet and excercise. Sometimes I really do not know why they come, yesterday was one of those instances. I have NEVER had any sort of cramps or nausea following an episode. Is this normal? Common?
2088051 tn?1334542007 So I Was Diagnosed With Hypoglycemia When I Was 15.. I'm 18 Now. It Seems Like It's Gotten Worse As I've Gotten Older. I'll Eat.. Then Not Even An Hour Later, I'll Start Shaking. This Stuff Is Horrible. I Just Need To Know If It's Because I'm Not Eating Enough Or It's Because Of The Food I Eat. Help!
Avatar f tn I have a follow up appointment with my doctor tomorrow question is is this something that I would have to take medication for regularly while pregnant. I already feel I'm taking too much medication now antibiotics for tooth infection plus tylenol #3 something for nausea prenatal vitamins and now this hypoglycemia. through all this I'm just praying that my baby is healthy.
Avatar f tn I would see your doctor about this very soon, as folks with hypoglycemia may develop diabetes later on. You may have pre-diabetes, and need to go on a diabetic diet. Meanwhile, make sure you have both protein and carbohydrates with all meals, and with all snacks, which you seem to be doing. You also might need to get a dietary consult and/or see an endocrinologist, for both are specially trained in working with people with blood sugar problems.
Avatar n tn I HAVE HAD HYPOGLYCEMIA FOR OVER 7 YEARS. CAN I TURN INTO A DIABETES. I HAVE BEEN GETTING SYSTMON OF DIABETES BUT MY GLUCOSA TEST COMES OUT LOW OF 62 FASTING IN THE MORNING .MY HANDS AND FEET FALL ASLEEP AT NIGHT. I HAVE TROUBLE WALKING MY LEGS HURT ESPECIAL IF I SIT FOR A WHILE.
Avatar f tn I was also prescribed Lexapro, Lamictal, and Welbutrin for dystymia and anxiety. I recently taperd off the Lexapro. I now have all the symptoms of hypoglycemia: tingling in lips (its constant, no break) and dizziness at just the slightest turn of the head, heart rate that is averaging 100 beats per minute (this has been constant not in little bursts for about three days now), and tightness in the chest/lung area, slight muscular type pain during deep breathing (also for about 5 days now).
