Common Questions and Answers about Heartburn surgery

heartburn

Avatar f tn If you did not have the heartburn b4 surgery it could be the result of all the meds used during surgery and after for pain.... Talk to your Dr about something to help with the nausea and heartburn. I also hope they have you on a stool softener too...as sometimes being delayed on emptying can also cause nausea and heartburn symptoms.....
Avatar f tn If you were having horrid heartburn with the HPT, then it will disappear after your surgery. When I was having the bad muscle spasms and twitches prior to surgery, I found 8 ounces of tonic water would make it stop. (I attempted putting gin in it, but it only made the heartburn worse.) Even better, it has been 3 years since my surgery and I can hardly see my scar. Hang in there and let us know how it goes! By the way, where are you having your surgery done?
Avatar f tn im going in for antireflux surgery next month and have suffered with severe heartburn for 6 yrs, my question is can it cause arm and hand pressure/pain as well as head pressure?
Avatar f tn I'm six weeks-in and having bad heartburn. Any advice on how to get rid of the burn.
Avatar f tn Hi, I had gastric sleeve surgery in January. Prior to my surgery I was diagnosed with GERD but it was not heartburn just burping and some coughing. It was annoying but not painful. since my surgery I've had severe burning heartburn, even when I drink water and sometimes even when I don't eat or drink! My dr prescribed Pantoprazole and it worked great for about a couple of months then slowly it got worse.
Avatar f tn I am just about 5 weeks and today I have some of the worst heartburn I have ever experienced. There are tears. I have tried milk, baking soda and water and lastly Gaviscon. Nothing is working. Anyone have any tricks? I am definately going to be losing some sleep over this bout tonight.
Avatar n tn I am having the same symptoms. Heartburn, back pain, lightheaded and neausea, I also had lots of belching but I do that to try and stop the neausea. I took my blood pressure and it was 146/91 and BPM was 86, my normal is about 110/66 and BPM is about 65 to 70. I had Reflux surgery 15 years ago and have not had heartburn since, until last night. Symptoms have gone away since the middle of the night. History of my family.
Avatar f tn I had a low ejection fraction and was having attacks followed by constant heartburn. Post surgery I still have the constant heartburn. Nothing makes it better. I have tried, dexalant, prilosec, zantac, tagament. I just started yesterday with green stools. No diarrhea but softer bright green stools. The gall bladder attacks have subsided but I feel like I can't eat anything without being in pain from the heartburn. It is severe!
Avatar f tn Funny you should mention it.... I was hyperthyroid and had heartburn for years with it. Now that I'm back to normal after thyroid surgery, I still have terrible heartburn. There's got to be a connection.
Avatar f tn I had it on my bowels, bladder, ureters, ovaries, Uterus, etc (STAGE IV) The symptoms I had were severe constipation and rectal pain, Pain during sex, urination frequency, severe heartburn, severe abdominal cramping Once the surgery was over I didnt need the heartburn medication i was on for 9 months that went away, I could have a bm without pain, I am on the pill so now I really dont have pain because I dont get a period and I dont ovulate and. That was 4yrs ago.
Avatar f tn I just wanted to put this out there....if you have constant heartburn after your thyroidectomy, or even if you still have your thyroid, please get it checked out. I finally went in and had an endoscopy because of the heartburn following my thyroid surgery last December. It wasn't cronic or horrible, but it was coming and going and I thought I should have it checked. Well, today I found out that I have suspicious pre-cancerous cells at the bottom of my esophogus and into my stomach.
572927 tn?1217366181 Oh yes! I do remember that! the calcium levels will drop to subnormal levels initially, but correct themselves as the parathyroids start responding again...Muscle spasms too on occasion until things settled...the thing I remember best is...feeling so much better...I found that calcium citrate, at 2000 mg/ day is what was the "therapeutic" level for me...
Avatar m tn this symptom has persisted for years despite treatments; do i possibly need surgery
Avatar n tn I get really bad heartburn at work.. which is not ideal since I work in surgery and can't leave!.. A wiser and older nurse makes a 7up and salt mixture for me. I drink a cup full and I feel so much better.. Can't hurt to try! Hopefully you find relief...
Avatar m tn Hello, I am a young 22 year old male with a history of upper right quadrant pain, heartburn/GERD, chest and back pain for over a year. I was completely healthy until a alcohol binge on my 21st birthday (which I neither planned for or am proud about). I immediately had upper right quadrant dull but significant pain for a few hours. Within the next few weeks and months, all of my current problems began popping up one after another.
Avatar m tn How long is recovery? Will pain, pressure, bloating, nausea, heartburn, constipation etc go away right after surgery or does it take awhile? I'm so miserable.
Avatar n tn I just had my gallbladder out four weeks ago after a month of trying to figure out what was wrong with me. I had several attacks and lots of heartburn and began to take a ppi which seemed to help. I have still had heartburn after and also have mild colitis. Today my colitis is feeling better (not much bloating at all) but the last two days I have had constant heartburn.
Avatar m tn I had an LES valve failure, and acid literally poured into my esophagus, burning my vocal chords and removed my tooth enamel in a week, no heartburn. Medical tests prior to surgery showed very high acid content and the LES failure and I had a successful surgery. I'd urge you to visit a specialist who can start to pinpoint the problem. Good luck.
Avatar f tn In 2004 I had a Nissen done which resolved my heartburn issue and I no longer had to take any heartburn meds. I did however have a lot of trouble with stomach pain and bloating with every meal I ate. Over a period of 6 months I lost over 45 lbs. In 2005 I had the Nissen stretched and was finally able to get some relief and life was good. I also suffer from migraine headaches and with migraines comes the gut wrenching dry heaves.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had this surgery for acid reflux disease? If so please let me know your experience. I am contemplating the surgery but am nervous about it. It seems so drastic.
394931 tn?1208115595 so i have very bad heartburn, upset stomach, with pain. i get heartburn bad enough to cause me to vomit, or i eat and i get severe pain right afterwards a very yucky feeling, where i am doubled over in pain and it lasts for anywheres from half an hour to an hour. if i eat or drink anything i have bad heartburn doesnt matter what it is. my doctor prescribed me pantoloc for the heartburn which is not working at all. all it does is make me vomit..
Avatar n tn i had my surgery 6 weeks ago... i find sticking to the lower fat diet has worked well, also non fat dairy and skim milk... i take digestive enzymes if i eat anything not healthy but im trying to stay away from that stuff. I feel great, only complaint I have is exhausted... cant seem to get my energy back up.
Avatar n tn I also have kidney disease which was diagnosed 15 years ago. Since my surgery I have suffered from severe heartburn, nausea and diarrhea. Often waking up in the middle of the night to vomit. My stools are either black or often green usually no more that liquid. Is there anything I can do to eliminate the need to stay close to home after eating a meal? Is there possibly another cause for these symptoms? These symptoms are getting progressively worse.
Avatar n tn d appreciate it.) Risks in C-sections are greater than the risks in gallbladder surgery. Increased heartburn from gallstones can also cause slower digestion, leading to gastritis and inflammation of the esophagus if you also start feeling frequent heartburn. Keeping stones in can cause some difficulty, one of the most severe being a sudden blockage of the passageway that gets bile from your gallbladder to your digestive tract.
Avatar m tn They said that if it comes out any lower than the first one, that I should have the surgery. I want the surgery because I feel like **** 90% of the time now. These forums are scary to read, but I know 7 people who have had gall bladder surgery and don't have any problems. I guess you don't hear from the success stories. I'm wondering how surgery will affect GERD (if I really have it).

1102809 tn?1257828773 I have GERD. Before doing a fundoplication surgery and hiatal hernia in December 2002, there were motility tests done to make sure that I could have the surgery. Nothing was wrong on that test. Almost immediately after the fundoplication, food started to get stuck and I would have intense pain (heart attack pain) in my chest and i would have to go into the bathroom to get the food out.
