Heartburn and green stool

Common Questions and Answers about Heartburn and green stool

heartburn

I was recently asked to give a stool sample for a lab test, and I was horrified that they were very dark green (I don't usually look in the toilet, 'ya know?). The day I delivered the sample, I also had an ultrasound of the abdomen. I have had a sore spot under my right rib for quite a while. I have also had very bad indigestion, with lots of burping lately.
Started feeling nauseous almost immediately after I ate, maybe just because the turkey had a slimy texture that grossed me out (yeah, common sense would indicate not eating it, but I was starving, ate too fast to really appreciate just how nasty the meat was 'til it was gone). Started having abdominal pain and loose, bright green stools within a few hours. It is now 48 hours later and the abdominal pain is worsening, spreading into back and accompanied by cramping, tightness, and nausea.
2 weeks ago I had the first case of bad heartburn, I woke up with a sweat, burning in the chest and felt dizzy. Since then I have changed my diet and am eating very healthily. My doctor thinks I have Acid Reflux, I did an ultrasound which cam up clear and a blood test. I now have green stools, which varies from being solid to just fragmented pieces and quite liquid.
Hello , after 96 weeks of treatment, 84 weeks on double and 12 more of TX , I was clear of virus! but 5 months after finishing treatment my stool is yellow, sometimes green. I am waiting for blood work results I just had done and I am wondering could there be something goin on? Has anyone else experienced this? I hope the monster doesn't pop his head back up or should a I be concerned about Pancreas?
I have been having loose stools for a few months. it is sometimes green and it has a very foul odor. I GO every morning same time and i do not ever go more than once a day. I also have bad breath. I take Prevacid once a day for three years. I also take Lexapro. Even with prevacid, i still get heartburn some. I am a smoker and smoke about a pack a day. Can someone ease my mind a little about the stool thing? Or tell me some info?
Bacteria in the colon and bile pigments also play a role in determining stool color. Yellowish brown, green, tan and orange colored stool have all been described and are considered normal. Black, tarry stools or red, burgundy colored stools are indicative of recent gastrointestinal bleeding. Clay colored stools indicate a blockage of the bile ducts.
Bile is yellowish green, and when it reacts with enzymes in the bowel, it turns stool brown. Moreover, If stool is still green by the time it is excreted, it could mean that it went through the large intestine too fast to be changed in color. This is often called "rapid transit" or "decreased colonic transit time" and diarrhea that is green in color could be the result.Ref: http://ibdcrohns.about.com/cs/otherdiseases/a/greenstool.

The other issue, which may or may not be a coincidence, is that my stool has changed to a green color. [It is like an olive green color.] This started about 5 weeks ago, and it has been consistent ever since. I was not concerned about it because I thought it may be a reaction to the PPI drugs I was taking, but when I stopped taking the PPI's for 4 days before the ph test last week, the stools were still green.
If you are taking antiacids for the heartburn, I read that they can cause pale stool. I'm having the same problem.
if you work your cardio more you will have a reason for your heart to be pounding fast, and you wont be scared. the heartburn...eat less acidy foods, eat right and you will feel better more of the time, i know that this may not eliminate all but it will make a difference.
My mother and husband have a history, between them, of trouble swallowing, unremittant heartburn. They've both been on Nexium, and previous to that, Prilosec, for quite some time. Something doesn't sound right in the plumbing and he needs to be checked out. Is he having regular bowel movements? If he hasn't had one in quite awhile [read that "days"], and shows any distension, he needs to be seen by a doc PRONTO (as in immediately). http://www.emedicine.com/radio/topic781.
After another week or so he still had watery stool so we returned and they took a stool sample and tested for bacteria. The test was negative so the Dr sayed that it must be a virus and that it would clear up on its own. It did not, so the next time we took him they tested for parasites, which was also negative. We returned to the Dr and she referred us to a GI specialist at the children's hospital. He did not have an opening till January 19th.
My Dad usedto have Hep-C and at one point he had really bad ulcers which gave him heartburn 24/7 all day everyday and pain in his chest. He also had blood in his stool from the bleeding ulcers. I found out that fresh Green Cabbage juice heals ulcers very quickly. So I made my Dad a vegetable juice with green cabbage in it... after the first drink the heartburn and pain went away in his chest immediately within seconds, whereas antacid tablets didn't work.
I have been having very loose stools for the greater part of the previous 30 days. The past four days I have had green stool (still loose to watery) and urine. The stools have varied from very dark to light green (at times a grey mix), while the urine is a very faint hint of bright green. I have not been eating many green vegetables, nor have I been drinking things like red pop (things I have read that can make stools green).
I had bright green stool with Gatorade before. Sugar can cause stool to be green. Sugar can also increase inflammation. You might make sure you are having a low sugar diet for awhile and see if you start to feel better. Acidosis- an imbalance of your pH balance can lead to diarrhea, so hopefully that imbalance has now been corrected as you hopefully are back to a usual diet and drinking more water than Gatorade now?
I continued to have off-and-on bouts with heartburn and abdominal pain throughout this last year. I even had an upper GI and an endoscopy in January which was negative for ulcers and negative for h. pylori. However, just last week I went to the doctor for a different problem. I had a pinkish rash on my shoulder, neck, and tailbone (I had had the rash once before years ago). Dr. said it was a fungal skin infection and prescribed Diflucan.
Green stool is sometimes caused because your passing the stool too quickly and its not getting enough time to change color(To the normal brown) spasms will cause stool to move quicker than normal and to come out green. You can have stool move really fast and not be diarrhea. What you have is very common with IBS-A or also known as spastic colon. An ultrasound will detect if you have any blocked ducts that are creating the green stool, but I bet that will come back negative.
- Bloating - how is it related to meals (in what time after the meal it appears), do you belch, have heartburn - Diarrhea - is stool sticky, whitish, foamy and floating and appears after fatty food(important, since it speaks for fat malabsorption) - Losing weight - since when - Pain (extremely important to describe it exactly): Where exactly it appears and where it spreads to, is it like a cramp, does it go completely away, is it related to meal or certain type of food (fruits, fatty foods) 2.
I am on 500 mg and it has done nothing for weight loss. It actually constipated me for the first few days and gave me heartburn and chest pain. I don't know if that is normal or not. My doctor says I am insulin resistant and he thinks this will help me loss weight. Should I ask to increase it? Or is it to soon?
Nexium did not work and pain and heartburn was worse. I switched back to prevacid. I am also on librax and something for nausea and also on misoprostol. Nothing is making me well. I am a breast cancer survivor so of course am terribly worried that I have colon cancer. I have another appt. with gastro on Thursday and intend to ask for a colonoscopy.
My BM at then became small and dark green with mucous a few times. and i had pain in right side of back and blaoting after eating. this was all in a few days. then i became constipated and used miralax twice which led to diarrhea in the days following. diarrhea and nausea and appetite loss and anxiety continued for about a week then diarrhea became formed but soft and lighter brown (sunk) and more frequent than id usually go.
I have to sleep with many pillows under my neck and upper back in order to breathe. My stool is usually soft, yellow or green. Please, I desperately need help. I am suffering. What can I do next? What is wrong with me? Also, is there a cure for hiatal hernia?
For example, I ate whole green beans once, and that's all that came out...the green beans and a bit of watery stool. Any thoughts as to what might be causing this or what I should do to make things better?
I have been experiencing dark green stool for 10 days now. After 7 days, I got sick (diarrhea and couldn't hold anything down). I was told to drink plenty of fluids and drink Gatorade for the electrolytes. After doing so, when I went to use the bathroom, my stool was brown. For the rest of that day, I was slowly eating to regain strength. I felt much better but was not drinking as much. The next morning, when I went again, it was back dark green again and every since.
You may want to ask your doctor to do stool tests for parasites, etc. and also a colonoscopy with biopsies. I found out after 4 years that I had microscopic colitis. This can only be found by examing the tissue under a microscope. Just a suggestion... After I started taking Entecort EC (a non-absorbable steroid) the bloating and diarrhea calmed down. Before the diagnoses, some of my symptoms also included the pains in the upper abdomen and heart palpitations.
Now I have this horrible gurgling in my chest and throat area. It feels like all this pressure, like this intense need to burp. I get heartburn A LOT. And now I have muscle spasms in my stomach sometimes. I get constipated a lot. There used to be blood in my stool (probably because the stool was so hard it would tear me up). Now I'm nauseous more often (still getting that eggy smell). I don't have much of an appetite anymore, my clothes are looser than they used to be.
I also have kidney disease which was diagnosed 15 years ago. Since my surgery I have suffered from severe heartburn, nausea and diarrhea. Often waking up in the middle of the night to vomit. My stools are either black or often green usually no more that liquid. Is there anything I can do to eliminate the need to stay close to home after eating a meal? Is there possibly another cause for these symptoms? These symptoms are getting progressively worse.
Wen i used to take iron pills my stool would be loose and black in colour. Wen i stopped taking them and just took my prenatal vitamins, which also has iron, my stools was normal. My prenatal vitamin is materna.
