Avatar n tn I was recently diagnosed with Hep C and now my doctor is telling me I have gestational diabetes. Is this because of the HCV? Do I even have gestational diabetes? Or does it just seem like I have it? Please help me.

She'll come along soon to post.
Avatar n tn Hi, certainly it is possible to have diabetes (more likely after gestational diabetes). You probably should be checked for type 1 diabetes, which can also occur as an adult. This will involve antibody testing as well as checking blood insulin levels. Although your sugar levels are not terribly high, they do seem higher than normal. Hba1c of 5.2 is not high, and still within high normal range.
Avatar f tn With my first pregnancy I had gestational diabetes. My son was born at 37weeks but had a low birth weight (1.88kg). That was 2years ago and he is a very healthy boy. I find myself wondering what could have cause the low birth weight. Does the gd had some part to do with it? I want another baby in the future but I want to have some answers first.
Avatar f tn Hey ladies! Here is some interesting info on the gestational diabetes test. I personally will be saying no to this test and I hope u all will at least do some research and make an informed decision for you and your sweet baby :) at the bottom I've included websites where I got all of this info. Here are some facts I found: Glucola test has a sensitivity of 76%.
Avatar f tn The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists (ACOG) said in a recent statement to the media that there is not one certain method to be used to effectively screen the pregnant population for gestational diabetes. They do not, however, know what screening is best or agree on when the screening should take place." http://www.gentlebirth.org/archives/gdhgoer.html A different point of view on diabetes testing http://www.gentlebirth.org/archives/gestdiab.
Avatar n tn are free radicals the cause of type 2 diabetes? is there any related literature and journal to go through regarding this which proves that free radicals cause diabetes. (it is known that elevated levels of free radicals is a major complication of diabetes).....
Avatar n tn m relieved to find an answer and relieved to know I will adjust and learn to manage this. Any other tips for me would be great. I had gestational diabetes that went away with the baby weight. Thanks!

Avatar f tn JUST HAD AN IDEA. HOW ABOUT A FOOD JOURNAL. IT'S HAS BEEN ON ALOT OF NEWS COVERAGE. IT SEEMS PEOPLE LOOSE MORE WHEN THEY CAN KEEP TRACK OF WHAT THERE IN TAKE IS.
Avatar f tn I think that being overweight can lead to additional problems during pregnancy like being at higher risk for preeclamsia and gestational diabetes but if you dont have those issues you should be good.
Avatar f tn Elevated blood glucose levels are indicative of gestational diabetes, although no one seems to know exactly what causes it. Hormones in the placenta can block the action of the mother's insulin in her body; insulin resistance makes it hard for the mother's body to use insulin, and without enough insulin glucose is turned into energy because it can't leave the body. A high level of blood glucose, called hyperglycemia, requires the baby to work harder.
Avatar f tn Honestly dont be nervous. Gestational diabetes is pretty common. Just watch the amount of carbohydrates in your meals. Keep them low usually under a total of 60g for breakfast and dinner and under 45g for lunch. Keep snacks to no carbs at all. Cheeses are great. Cut the soda and sugary food back and you should do just fine. Im a type 1 diabetic for 13 years. Talk to your doc about it. Its not that bad when its just the gestational diabetes.

2080518 tn?1357249671 I had gestational diabetes the first time around and a really difficult pregnancy that ended up in induction and it was a horrible experience. (birth story is on my page on my journal) I am pretty sure that you should be monitored carefully this time around, they're doing that with me.. testing me for it early,, lotts of scans etc etc...
Avatar f tn Yes, diabetes that develops during pregnancy is called gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes requires close monitoring throughout your pregnancy. Typically, once you deliver, the diabetes resolves. However, immediately after delivery your doctor will monitor your blood sugars and your baby's blood sugar. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Any ever get it?this is my third pregnancy and first time iv had gestational diabetes..and im 24..
Avatar f tn I have Gestational diabetes as well I have had it since 26 weeks I'm now 30 weeks in the beginning I had to see a dietitian and have to test test myself 4 times a day for my glucose levels I was doing really well for a while I lost weight but now baby is getting bigger and hard for me to control my sugar I've done everything I can and doc said they will start me on insulin next week just once a day but wish you all the best if you have a question let me know the biggest risk is the baby
Avatar f tn Gestational diabetes is a fairly common precursor for people with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. So yes, please treat gestational diabetes as an advance warning. This means attention to diet (lower carb is usually helpful), weight, activity, and the need for regular monitoring (hba1c testing every 6 - 12 months is a great idea). Be aware of diabetes symptoms and if in doubt test.
