Your doctor's advice is surprising to me, also. I'm guessing that s/he is not a diabetes specialist and that's the type of physician who should be guiding your diabetes care. Specialists might be called endocrinologist or diabetologist.
None of us here is a physician, but we're long-time diabetics or care-givers for diabetic children.
You didn't mention if you've been diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2, and the treatment options vary for these types.
Gestational diabetes doesn't always look or act like diabetes mellitus - it's a different disease. It may not affect the mother too terribly much but it can be extremely dangerous to the baby if not controlled.
You say you work in the medical field - but you don't understand why it's important or how the testing is done or whether refusal is an option? Go ahead and get the test done.

I see you have the word 'diabetes' crossed. Diabetes is a Greek word meaning large amounts of urine. Both diabetes mellitus and diabetes insipidus fall into this realm but both are separate mechanisms.

Cases such as yours are common in infants with a diabetic mom. Basically, if your sugar gets out of control (and sometimes even if it's well controled) You have diabetes, but your baby does not. So the way your baby deals with it is to change that extra sugar into muscle. As you know the heart is a muscle and goes thru the same changes as the rest of the muscles.

Some doctors will induce you once youre full term... but, every doctor has a different definition of full term some are 37 some are 39.. and some doctors wont induce you unless you go past your due date..

There are several forms of diabetes insipidus. Neurogenic or Central diabetes insipidus can be caused by pituitary tumors. The symptoms of Central DI are excessive urination and extreme thirst. It differs from diabetes mellitus it that glucose does not spill over into the urine.
You don't mention in your question what medication you were taking. Commonly central DI is treated with desmopressin. Desmopressin works by limiting the amount of water passed in the urine.

I have also been diagnosed with IGT, which can be a pre-curser to diabetes mellitus. I also had gestational diabetes during both my pregnancies (albeit never at very high levels).
With all the above problems, I am obviously concerned that I might be showing signs of a cardiac problem. Can anyone out there advise me, or tell me if I'm barking up the wrong tree.
It is a disorder of the nerves which causes numbness, tingling, unusual sensations and sometimes pain, which can be triggered by medications. Diabetes Mellitus can cause neuropathy. Other causes like vitamin deficiencies and alcohol consumption can cause neuropathy.

There arent really any physical symptoms of gestational diabetes other than baby measuring larger than normal because they are absorbing rhe excess sugar you arent able to break down fast enough... just because you weren't able to keep down the drink doesn't mean you have gestational diabetes... it just means they will have to re test you for it... I have known plenty of women who cant keep it down and have to take it 3 or 4 times because they kept throwing it up before the 1hr was over.
I was recently diagnosed with Hep C and now my doctor is telling me I have gestational diabetes. Is this because of the HCV? Do I even have gestational diabetes? Or does it just seem like I have it? Please help me.
m not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. Ketones must be treated with insulin. Water alone will not get rid of them. If the MD did not advise to get insulin to bring down the ketones, the MD is misinformed about diabetes, and an endocrinologist should be consulted. There is a specific formula that is used to determine just how much insulin to give, and how often to give it, and that needs to happen ASAP.
