Gabapentin side effects hallucinations

Common Questions and Answers about Gabapentin side effects hallucinations

neurontin

I don't know if it was the discontinuations of the meds or the the side-effects of anesthesia finally getting out of my system, but by the third night the hallucinations subsided. Thank God! This was one of the worse experiences of my life. I think the medical community does not take this phenomenon seriously because they have never personally experienced it. But it can be a horrible side effect of surgery and should be taken very seriously.
While Cymbalta did help manage both my depression and muscle pain, the side effects were what i hated about it. I never had digestion problems from it, but my stomach hurt constantly and my appetite disappeared. Eating became a chore and if i got distracted with school/work responsibilities, i would forget to eat, sometimes for 2 days. I also developed hyperhydrosis and always had a chemical/metalic taste in my mouth.
,Like you, I went through the frustration and disappointment when meds didn't work, worked some but not enough, bad side effects or whatever the reason I was off of them. Most of the time, it was his decision to take me off a med or meds. There were a few times the side effects were so bad that I called him and told him I needed to get off of it and why. As agreed, I never got off a medication without him knowing about it. What you said in your previous post, I pretty much felt the same way.
Apparently, it is an antagonist at the mu opiate receptor which is what most of the opiates are effective at and has its analgesic effect at the kappa opiate receptor which also provides analgesia in addition to some odd side effects sometimes, especially if you take the maximum dosages. they include hallucinations and delusions but I have found them very effective for my headaches up until very recently where they have become resistant to the drug for the most part.
Hi, just found this site and I am thinking of taking Baclofen as and when I need it, came across your response to a previous post, did it help you in the beginning, jjust really scared of side effects.
Caution should be taken by patients with kidney disease to prevent toxicity. It is usually well tolerated, but side effects of amantadine include insomnia, mood disturbances, allergic reactions, confusion, and hallucinations. So that is it in a nutshell I guess...I am taking it for fatigue and so far it hasn't changed anything but it's only been 2 days so I guess I have to give it a chance! Thank you for the well wishes and I hope this is helpful!
I was on 1200mg/day and it took me two months to get off of it because I got insomnia and had to take benedryl to get off of it and be able to sleep. It is low on side effects except feeling tired and dumb. The nerves get over sensitive and send pain signals out even when you are probably not injured anymore. Once I got this in my head and started walking a lot. the pain tweeks started going away. Where is your pain and is it spinal/nerve or muscular?
Does anyone here use this Amantadine Medication for Fatique...I looked it up and it sure has alot of side effects...makes me abit nervous.. she said it should help the fatigue, give me more engery..its for different Neuro symtoms.. mainly Parkinson...but she said she doesn't know what I have yet... and ???? I'm trying not to get too frustrated at this... right now I don't want to go back and see her again. ...
I had been on them all before but no pain relief, and the side-effects were horrendous! After my Dr. ignored my calls about the last trial and the side effects for over a WEEK, I just went off of it myself because I was literally ready to kill myself because of the pain and depression. So I saw him the other day and told him I was off it.

Although what you describe is possible from the surgery, I have to suspect that a good part of it is from the side effects of the medications!!!! I have heard of using these meds. in combination of 2s or 3s, but I have never heard of this combo of ALL 4..... One of my dogs had a terrible reaction to the Fentanyl Patch!!! He shook, couldn't move, hallucinated & SCREAMED when touched or moved! I didn't even have to pick him up! Yes, I thought he was dying!!!
Keep the medication in a secure place where others cannot get to it. Tramadol can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Do not stop using tramadol suddenly, or you could have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, sweating, nausea, diarrhea, tremors, chills, hallucinations, trouble sleeping, or breathing problems.
And then there is Mirapex, I cannot express how horrible the side effects were for this one. I have talked to so many people some on this website who experienced psychotic episodes on this medication. It is used a lot for fibromyalgia. I'm actually getting dizzy and nauseated thinking about the amount of medication you are on. I am NOT a doctor but have been on all of these medications and I would NEVER take any one of them again and I would NEVER take any one of them at the same time.
(I think they believe Topamax is tolerated just like Gabapentin or Lyrica.) Because of this their patient's side effects become unbearable to the point where the person gets confused, panicky, anxious and just plain fed up with it all and quit the medication before the benefits are made clear. This doesn't happen when the medication is increased slowly. Second, you need to be at 150mgs or more to get pain relief benefits.
Anyway he prescribes me Lexapro which affected me with even MORE anxiety and not being able to sleep. Well I go check out just what Lexapro is and the side effects ( I had never HEARD of Lexapro ). It's an anti-depressant ( selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors SSRI ) prescribed to treat 'major depression'. I don't have major depression. I have 'if you look at me wrong I might kill you'. That's not depression.
I have had a problem with sleep, anxiety and depression over the course of the last 20 years. To begin with, My dr. put me on 1mg of Xanax for anxiety and sleep problems along with atenolol-50mg for a mitral valve prolapse condition which was diagnosed by echo cardiogram at that same time. I took these drugs for several yrs and was able to function adequately. After several personal problems, I found that I could not sleep with just the xanax, so my dr. prescribed 30 mg Flurazapam.
As soon as I took the Lithium my anxiety disapeared. Lithium saved my life. I responded to it so well. I am already starting to feel the effects of depression from the lack of Lithium in my system. I am terrifed again. I feel i'm back at square one. So has this happened to anyone? I will have more insight in a few hours with my pdoc. What the heck happened. It can't believe that your body can just decided not to metabolize medications anymore. Sorry about the misspelled words.
and also as you can see this drug may RAISE serum transaminases and alkaline phosphate...and this drug has so many different side effects along w/ the neurontin(gabapentin) it causes many of the same hepatic(liver) side effects...
All I can say at this point is that every day is trial and error, this thing comes and goes, some days are better than others, and we have to learn to tame the beast so to speak, find out what makes it worse and avoid it, find out what makes it better and do that too. Decide which drugs are worth the side effects. Find alternatives. It's a frustrating game. Especially if you have other health issues as you do Kosk and the added challenge of minimal health facilities.
However, if you have to wean yourself off of Lyrica and you want to avoid, or at least minimize your chances of contacting these side effects, you should allow yourself time to get off the drug and get it out of your system. Generally a week is advised of slowly weaning yourself off of Lyrica and letting your body work the drug out naturally.
Why do I care as not to be called BP because meds are lifelong ones with severe side effects. So unless I am sure i am BP I should look for the right diagnosis. Your view I suppose is personal. So my final question can mania caused by tricyclics twice which is my case can occur to a "normal" or at least not bipolar. My pdoc who knows my case diagnosed me as mood swings and on asking him am i bipolar he was skeptical but as i consulted other new ones they all said BP.
Not my fault that I had to snicker at the last line there because every time I talked to my Doctors (plural) about medications and side effects they told me that Tramadol was NOT the problem. Then there was usually another drug put on top of that Tramadol. And they told me to take more. I always thought it was the other drug, not the Tramadol. Yeah. I was wrong. It makes me very angry that these Doctors know and aren't telling people. I don't believe that they are ignorant.
It wasn't until about a month ago that I found a website that gives a thorough list of possible side-effects of these medicines and I found out that Zoloft can cause all of those things I was experiencing and many, many more. If I had known then what I know now, I may not have suffered as much and could have been on the road to recovery long before now. It makes me so angry how uninformed we are as patients.
It would be a gross misstatement to call Neurontin a dangerous drug. Neurontin rarely has serious side effects, does not interact with other drugs and is not addicting. Side effects from Neurontin will go away when you stop the drug. If you had problems with it, that is unfortunate, but that can happen to anyone with any drug. The problems you describe are actually just as likely to have resulted from your disease, not from the drug.
I have been on it for a bit, slowly have gone up to 300 mg, slowly been having the wonderful weightloss side effect, but all my other side effects are oppisite of what is stated as what are probable side effects. Ok, no, I have not had any hairloss. As a matter of fact, if anything, it has been making my hair grow faster, and of that I am thankful, for I have had some mighty funky hair cuts this year. lol.
It is an agonist for the GABAB receptors.[1][2] Its beneficial effects in spasticity result from actions at spinal and supraspinal sites. Baclofen can also be used to treat hiccups, and has been shown to prevent rises in body temperature induced by the drug MDMA in rats.[3] In addition, research has shown baclofen to be effective in the treatment of alcohol dependence and withdrawal, by inhibiting both withdrawal symptoms and cravings.
The way I see it for now - I need to get through the next week with just a little vicodin and the tramadol to help with the withdrawal side effects. It's a very low dose of Tramadol so my pharmacist let me know that it would only help a little and I'm ok with that.
I have been on Benzos (Xanax, klonopin, Valium) and Methadone for 9 years now and no adverse side effects! The doctors urge people to keep them apart because you can overdose if not careful. But, you can overdose on almost anything with Methadon and I have a bottle of tramadole here with 500 in it and it's just trash cause I know it can put you into withdrawals!
