Fluoxetine half life

Common Questions and Answers about Fluoxetine half life

prozac

Avatar n tn Another way to avoid withdrawal is to take fluoxetine (Prozac) for a few weeks after stopping Lexapro (or any other SSRI), then simply stopping the fluoxetine. The very long half-life of fluoxetine causes it to leave the body over a period of months, tapering so slowly that the person doesn't have any withdrawal. My recommendation at this point would be to go back on a low dose of Lexapro--maybe half of what you used to take.
Avatar f tn As far as I'm aware Prozac is the most stimulating of the SSRIs. It also has the longest half life and is supposed to be the easiest to quit taking. If your problem is just anxiety I would try something else first. I find Zoloft to be a bit stimulating for me. Lexapro was very neutral and Paxil was very sedating. But we are each different so you may like Prozac.
Avatar f tn The half-life of a drug is how long it takes for half of it to be eliminated from the bloodstream. Hope that helps.
6298176 tn?1380134459 It has a very long half life, though I can't give you specifics. The dose and how long you were on it does factor in. Your doctor should be able to help you with your questions on this.
Avatar n tn I was taking Prozac for about a year and half and had just recently stopped (approximately 2 weeks now). I gained about 30 lbs as a side effect (sadly)...so now I am left wondering if this will eventually "fade away" in time --- and if so, how long does it normally take for it to be completely out of your system ... ??? ... Thank you for your time and help.
Avatar f tn m posting this here as well as in the anxiety forums, in the hope that someone may answer. I am taking Fluoxetine 20mg for anxiety and depression, and have been taking it for just over a week. How long before I begin to see any benefits? Also, two more questions - they may seem trivial, but they are bothering me - is it safe to break open the Fluoxetine capsules, as I can not swallow them? Also I am taking 5mg Diazepam - is that safe?
Avatar f tn About a month ago I went to see a psych and he put me on 40mg of fluoxetine and told me to come back in a month and a half to up the dosage. However, I'm not sure if it's working for me... or if I'm just getting bad side effects. Within the month that the psych left me I had to go through a length and painful trial, to which the fluoxetine just made feel completely numb, I know I should feel sad but for some reason I can't cry.
Avatar f tn It has an active metabolite, norfluoxetine, which has a very long half-life (4-14 days) - so it can take about five weeks to fully get rid of it. This may be an advantage, as the chance of getting the "SSRI withdrawal syndrome" is far less. I took Mirtazapine together with Zoloft. I didn't suffer any depression, but quite a lot of anxiety. I remember feeling more happy on Mirtazapine, I slept well, and felt like I had more energy the next day.
Avatar f tn not sure what this means.. melatonin reduces the antidepressant effect of fluoxetine.. and then in the last sentence fluoxetine has lead to a measurable depletion of melatonin in people..

535882 tn?1396576685 whats the half life for syntriod. about how much time does it take to build up in you and also leave your system?
Avatar f tn i am taking 80 mg fluoxetine plus 45 - 60 mg buspirone and i was wondering if there is reason for concern about serotonin syndrome with such a cocktail at those dosages. if it's a bad idea to be taking so much of the both of them, it's not necessarily a big deal for me to d/c them as i still lay in bed all day! -- but what's next? thanks...
Avatar f tn Breastfeeding With regard to breastfeeding and the use of Prozac, there is very little in the published literature to guide. Fluoxetine has a long half-life and it may accumulate in the infant. There is no evidence to reassure that breastfeeding is safe and as one paper puts it, it should be a case-specific, risk-benefit decision. There are other antidepressants, such as the tricyclics (eg.
Avatar f tn I have been on Venlafxine for about a year and a half. My dosages have ranged from 75-125. My shrink has decided to take me off Venlafixine and go back on Fluoxetine. I used to take Fluoxine for 20 something years but went into a BIG depression about 1.5 years ago so I was switched to Venlafaxine. The reasons I am being switched to way too long to type here but this is my question .... My shrink told me to stop the Venlafaxine one day and start Fluoxetine 20mg the next day.
Avatar f tn I am 38 years old and 4 and half months pregnant with my first baby. Before getting preg. I was taking 20 mg of fluoxetine once a day. When I first found out I was preg. i stopped. 649982 tn?1226357902 therese83 makes a good point. Prozac (fluoxotine) has a very long half life and often takes at least 4 to 6 weeks before really kicking in. If in a couple weeks you still do not feel better, may I suggest adding Effexor XR to your Prozac. The two can be taken together and sometimes when Depression causes overwhelming exhaustion and fatuge then a good Neurephinepherine Reuptake Inhibitor like Effexor can work wonders. (something to discuss with your P-doc as an option.
Avatar f tn 5 years ago I went through some hard times so my doctor put me on 20mg fluoxetine which really helped the depression I was having, but it also made me feel really wired, sweaty, and hyper. It also made my blood pressure spike and stay up. I stayed on them for about a year and decided to stop because it seemed like life had calmed down for me. Lately I've been having a rough go of it again and have those old feelings creeping back even after seeing a counselor for two years.
Avatar n tn Prozac (fluoxetine) is an anti-depressant that works by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin back into your brain, thereby encouraging it to produce more. It has one of the longest half-lifes of all the SSRIs and is therefore one of the easiest to wean off of. It is generally taken early in the day so that you won't have diffuculty sleeping at night.
