Fluoxetine for bipolar

Common Questions and Answers about Fluoxetine for bipolar

prozac

Avatar n tn s almost over. My question to you is if fluoxetine (she may have bipolar) is taken for several years at the same dosage, would this outburst (which just happened recently, her slumps of being very unhappy and depressed) be caused by the dose? Meaning, could it help if she was to up her dose, or change medications? I don't want to see them break up, they were very happy. I am not fully aware of this disorder and know it can take years to diagnose.
Avatar f tn I've had depression for some time and was prescribed fluoxetine a few months ago. In the second and third week of taking it I experienced what I can only describe as mild euphoria and a sort of agitation- not being able to sleep, restlessness and the shakes- which was not unpleasant because of the euphoric feeling that accompanied it.
Avatar f tn Its really important to let your psyc know that your son has DM. That could account for a lot of his symptoms. For example, Irritability and other mood changes, fatigue and weakness are common symptoms. This would also make a kid very depressed. It would also explain why they had a problem pinning down his problems as they would shift due to the DM. From what you mentioned in your other post he sounds like he has ADHD and that is causing a lot of the other problems.
Avatar f tn I take 40mg of fluoxetine/Prozac and being an antidepressant I hear it makes mania in bipolar disorder much worse. I am currently being assessed for bipolar disorder but after starting on the antidepressant for a few months now I haven't noticed a significant change in mania symptoms whilst taking it compared to when I took no medication. Is it possible to have bipolar but not having worsened symptoms due to antidepressants?
Avatar m tn ve been taking quetiapine and lamotrigine to treat bipolar disorder for about 1.5 years. My doctor says the cause of my dysfunction is that I have low sex drive, and it makes sense. Is there any suggestion?
Avatar m tn If you are not bipolar, why are you on Lithium? To test for lactose intolerance, I would recommend that you eliminate 100% of all lactose (milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, butter, etc.) for 2 weeks to see if that helps. That is very unfortunate that your doctor's didn't do a biopsy to check for celiac disease during your endoscopy. Chronic constipation is a symptom; it is not a cause.
Avatar m tn My doctor gave me a test to determin if I was positive for bipolar, and I did test positive on it. It is a written test you just check yes or no mostly. He then put me on this mood stabalizer but not an anti-depressant. When I was in trauma a few years ago I would sleep for about 10 hours a day. I felt like I was frozen. I would force myself to eat, but the stress was so bad I was always sick to my stomach - not hungry or full. My depression was really bad.
Avatar n tn Sounds like the past 10 years have been very difficult for you. Has any raised the possibility of Bipolar disorder with you in the past? The way that you describe switching from one state to another sounds very Bipolar (previously known as Manic-Depressive). One state you describe is characterized by depressed mood, apathy, lack of motivation with difficulty thinking and the other as motivated, energized with improved cognition.
Avatar f tn People who stop their bipolar medications are at a significantly increased risk of relapse and bad effects from their bipolar. Bipolar meds could have a risk for the fetus, although in some meds it seems to be a small risk. The decision is ultimately yours.

Avatar m tn My brother went to a psychiatrist and he prescribed him fluoxetine and xanax. He said that my brother should take one 20mg tablet of fluoxetine for the morning and 0.5 tablet for xanax for morning and night for 14 days . He said to take the 0.5 mg xanax tablet half in morning and the other half at night So, my brother took the fluoxetine and xanax for 14 days and then again went to the psychiatrist. My brother has not felt any improvement for his ocd or depression from the tablets.
Avatar m tn I cannot seem to kick the Daytime sleepiness. I am taking 40 mg, fluoxetine, 150 bupropion. When I was on the bupropion with lamictal it seemed like I had less of this sleepiness. Is there a possibility that lamictal may help? Anyone with experience on this? Should I up the fluoxetine, up the bupropion, switch bupropion for lamictal , add lamictal, up bupropion? Thoughts?

Avatar f tn m posting this here as well as in the anxiety forums, in the hope that someone may answer. I am taking Fluoxetine 20mg for anxiety and depression, and have been taking it for just over a week. How long before I begin to see any benefits? Also, two more questions - they may seem trivial, but they are bothering me - is it safe to break open the Fluoxetine capsules, as I can not swallow them? Also I am taking 5mg Diazepam - is that safe?
Avatar f tn There's no such thing as a nervous breakdown. You need to get into therapy. As for the medication, you won't know if it'll work until you try it -- we all react differently. Alcohol increases depression and stomach problems, so that's a problem, not a remedy.

1063764 tn?1272821064 ve been on fluoxetine for almost a year now. I stopped taking melatonin when I started it because I read a few articles that it might potentially interfere. I was jw if anyone here take the two, and what your doctors have said or side effects you've had. Thanks.
Avatar f tn A study done in 2009 by the Department of Behavioral Science at Eastern Virginia Medical School concluded that selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, are one type of prescription medication effective for this disorder. Some common SSRIs include fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, paroxetine and sertraline. The study listed other pharmacologic treatments for skin picking, such as inositol, clomipramine, doxepin, inositol, lamotrigine, olanzapine, naltrexone and riluzole.
Avatar n tn Ive been to the doctors and they put me on Fluoxetine tablets. One a day until they tell me to stop. However I've had two so far but want to stop. I know you have to slowly come off of them but if I've only had two can I just stop? Please help!
Avatar f tn I have Bipolar, but for a while I have been stable (as much as I think you can be), but I have horrific tiredness. I'm 20, was diagnosed with BP 2 years ago, and I've had this fatigue since I was about 14. Every single day I am tired, although it obviously varies from bearable to completely debilitating. The fatigue affects literally everything in my life; I'm not able to do anything I want to do and I can't get a job.
