He takes 5 mg blood pressure med and he takes Flomax daily. When he first started taking Flomax; which he needs to be able to urinate or as he says to keep his plumbing working, anyway, he would have dizzy spells. His doctor said this was normal, a side effect of Flomax. But now lately he has been passing out; I think that is unusual for any medication and I'm worried there may be something else going on.

Also, like Jbrooks, my symptoms are amplified after a bowel movement. No one can explain what is going on. I also noticed that when my symptoms are the worst, my urine is almost clear like water and I pass a decent amount of urine. It has a peculiar smell as well. So, here I am with no answers.
1. Do not stop taking avodart. That medication and other like it such as flomax can cause "floppy iris syndrome" here's the deal even if you stop it can still happen so don't stop. The eye surgeon needs to know ahead of time you're on the medicine so special drops and techniques can be used.
2. Swimming is BAD after surgery and should be avoided. I ask my patients not to swim for 6 weeks.
My biggest fear is severe pain when the stent is removed due to swelling and blood clots. I will be on a alpha blocker (rapaflo, similar to flomax) for several days prior to stent removal. It is supposed to relax the ureter.
Will rapaflo prevent the severe pain or just not make it last as long? Not sure what expectations are for this medication.
Two years ago I did a Cystoscopy and last year flow measurement test (Not Urodynamics) and blood test for any cancer and prostate issues. They found nothing. Again I went to a different doctor thinking to find the cause of this last week. He wanted me to do the Cystoscopy again and UroDynatics test. My question is is it necessary to perform a cystoscopy again since they did not find any issues when performed last. This test makes me nervous since I suffer for months after this.
Saw my primary MD today. He said that the Flomax relaxes muscles in the bladder and prostate, and the Avodart shrinks the prostate. He said that after a year or so, if the prostate has gone down and reduced the problems, they like to eliminate the Flomax, as it is no longer necessary. Long story short, I now have a prescription for Avodart alone. I realize that it may not reduce the surgery risk, but one less drug is a good thing.
My dad took Flomax, and definitely had the dizziness issue, which is a result of blood pressure changes. He was 30+ years older than you, and had prostate cancer, so your experience may be very different.

He was using a old polar with a chest strap. I had taken xanax in the morning to reduce my blood pressure though. I also take flomax (for BPH). Was I dehydrated? Did the xanax cut off my oxygen and cause my heart to race up quickly? I went home and later in the day, used my owen polar with chest strap and simulated the test, and at 3 minutes was only at 104! The company will give me a retest. Any comments, did I screw myself over by taking xanax?
20 years old is young to already be on blood pressure medication. Has your doctor done lab work and imaging to find a cause for your elevated blood pressure? Are you overweight or obese? You are currently taking a class of medication called a beta-blocker. The side effects you are experiencing are very common. I would ask your doctor about switching you to a different class of medication like a diuretic, ACE inhibitor, ARB, or calcium channel blocker.
I would personally look into the natural ways of doing this, at least research them, as medication for high blood pressure, as with so much medication, can have consequences that are as bad as the high blood pressure, such as pulmonary problems. Again, as always, we have to do our homework and then make a choice.
Keep a morning evening record of your blood pressure for a few days. If your blood pressure remains high after medication, then there are two possibilities. Either the medication is not suiting you. OR there is some underlying cause which needs to be eliminated.

Sounds to me like you don't need blood pressure medication. I was put on it one time during a stressful time in my life. I resolved that and now I dont take anything. Have you tried not taking it and seeing what your BP does? Might be the wrong medication for you.
