Common Questions and Answers about Finger pain due to typing

finger

Avatar m tn Recently I've been experiencing slight pain on my left index finger due to typing all day. Are there any exercises, medicines, or remedies for this aside from stopping to type(not an option sadly) altogether? Thank you.
Avatar m tn So, I've been having some annoying pain in my right ring finger on the under side. I want to say it feels like a really bad paper cut or being poked with a ton of little needles. I don't know if I did anything to it, it tends to hurt more with use, but only on the underside.
Avatar n tn Today it caused me pain all day and its difficult for me to even type with it. Its stiff and kind of wants to naturally bend, but there is no clicking or popping. Is my trigger finger coming back or could this just be some type of arthritis? Has this happend to anyone else who has had trigger finger?
Avatar m tn If the pain and stiffness has started three years after the surgery then it is less likely to be due to the operation. The pain could be due to the screws. The other possibility is a pinched nerve in the wrist/elbow or shoulder level or even at the spine level. However, if there was a typing error and you had the surgery just 2 weeks ago, then please consult your surgeon. The pain can be due to nerve irritation, nerve compression, tendon injury, infection or bleed. Take care!
Avatar n tn I feel it is also finger specific, especially all my fingers other than my thumb and pinkie all of which I use to move the cursor. I am afraid I may have carpal tunnel. Please do suggest what to do now.
Avatar n tn Thanks, I shall have to make an appointment with my doctor i think even though i hate the place, but nice to speak to others out there, helps you tell yourself to see about this and stop putting it off.
Avatar f tn Yesterday, When I woke up and went about my day slowly (I do a good amount of typing on a keyboard) I realized there was a pain in my right-hand middle finger. A little pressure-like pain in my fingers very occasionally is normal for me (now that I think about it, maybe that should be concerning) so I mostly ignored it and, unhelpfully, I was absentmindedly messing with it.
Avatar n tn If a nerve is compressed on as it exits through these holes, particularly in an area called the nerve root, a radiculopathy results. The compression could be due to arthritis of the spine or due to a herniated disc or other lesions. The symptoms include pain at the level of the problem (i.e. neck or back etc) and pain that may radiate down the arm or leg (depending on where the problem is), including pain radiating to the hand or finger as in your case.
Avatar f tn Lately i have had numbness in my thumb, index finger, midfle finger, ring finger and pinky finger as well as pain in this fingers. My wrist, forearm, and elbow gets pain in it. I also get pain when i grip something too long. I also have a hard time laying in bed typing. Is this tendons, ligaments, nerve, inflammation?
19606750 tn?1480880764 Wondered if anyone could recommend a good way of going about this in the UK (whether NHS or private, where and how) and how long to expect heeling period to be. Would it be likely for the fixed finger to become just as dexterous as the others once heeled, or am I being too hopeful? I'd appreciate any advise, thanks!
Avatar n tn I have this recurring throbbing, hot, sharp pain in the corners of my nail beds. it travels from one finger tip to another lasting a couple days in one then seemingly disappearing then showing up in another. Typically it will affect two to three fingers per episode. Currently it is in the corner of my right thumb and my left big toe. It started a couple years ago and will happen 1 to 3 times per year. Any ideas?
Avatar m tn When scalene muscle is the cause of pain, the pain is referred chest, inner lining of scapula, shoulder, posterior and lateral sides of the arm right up to the thumb and index finger. When this muscle shortens, this can press on brachial plexus and the subclavian artery and can compress or irritate these structures and cause symptoms such as abnormal sensation, cold extremity, claudication (spasms), and lymphedema in the involved extremity.
Avatar n tn I have been having severe pain...like nerve ending smart pain periodically in my finger. It almost takes to the ground it is so painful. Sometime it takes 30 - 40 minutes for my finger to feel better. Is it normal for a tendon to be remove to fix a clicking finger? If so, is the pain normal? Thanks!
555474 tn?1216339322 10-days ago...Left hand, fore-finger...the tip started to go numb...thought I burned it, numbness moved down hand, to thumb, now middle finger, down the back of hand.... Brain MRI was negative & No it is not Carpal Tunnel... Please Help Me. My toe, my foot, my hip, I can live with...I can't live without my fingers and hand...Typing, buttoning, everything...impossible... In addition to this recent onset of numbness, severe pain in both elbows & left shoulder joints.
Avatar n tn I ended up having to hold my finger down forcibly for a week to get its movement back. I was able to bring it back to about 90%. Shortly after I started noticing pain in my finger accompanied by random tingling and sharp shooting pains. For the most part over the past 6 years I've dealt with it (I have no insurance so I cant see a doctor). The pain comes and becomes more painful the more I use that finger. This year I got a new job that has me typing most of my day.
Avatar m tn The vitamin D deficiency was diagnosed when suddenly I started having trouble typing with my left hand. My fingers would pain and I had trouble pressing keys of the keyboard with left hand. (all this while my right hand was ok). My doctor suggested me to test Vitamin D and found that I had deficiency. I have been taking medications to improve vitamin D for 3 months but my conditions with fingers hasn't improved.
Avatar f tn I punched a wall and its all swollen around the side of my hand and my pinky knuckle and ring finger knuckle and my mom said my pinky finger looks a little odd. It hurts to move my hand and finger and its sometimes gets this kind of numb tingling feeling. It throbs and aches a lot and sometimes the throbbing goes up to my arm along with a shooting pain every now and again. I can barely move my pinky finger. Thanks for answering!
Avatar m tn The back of my wrist feels tight, the wrist is easy to pop (and gives relief when it has been) and the central knuckles of my index and ring fingers feel stiff (not all the time). There's no twitching, it hurts even when I'm not typing or using a mouse and there's no numbness. I can feel the muscle between my index finger's base knuckle and the wrist move when I click though, and there's a resulting, momentary twinge of pain.
Avatar f tn It is important to have this further evaluated and diagnosed, as there are specific treatments for neuropathic pain (pain due to nerve irritation) depending on the cause, and a specific diagnosis will both guide treatment and need for further monitoring, and a regimen/plan to relieve your severe pain can be found. Thank you for this opportunity to answer your questions, I hope you find the information I have provided useful, good luck.
482441 tn?1235230458 today i went out for just a few moments,to tend to a few plants.way to hot, way, way.ten minutes out, coverered with sweat, and suddenly my face went numb!!! brand new sensation to me,got myself in and a cool towel helped. i thought i'd end up with greater head pain for that , but it turned out just my normal pain kept me company the rest of the day. these things that just pop up can be very upsetting.
Avatar m tn My doctor came into the room, tested me for CT, and aftering determining I didn't have carpal tunnel told me I had RSI, wrote a presciption for Diclofenac and left. It took him all of five minutes and I didn't even get to finish telling him what was wrong. My finger joints are stiff sometimes, from typing and my wrist is tight/stiff. When I flex, I can feel a numb pain (not numbness as in can't feel) move along the back of my hand, in the pattern of my veins.
Avatar f tn Hypothyroidism, diabetes, tumors and infections of the ulnar and spinal nerves and rheumatism can all cause numbness of little and ring finger. Your symptoms could also be due to carpel tunnel syndrome. In this the median nerve is compressed at the wrist in a place called the carpel tunnel. Symptoms begin with numbness and tingling of the first three or two fingers from the thumb side. Nerve conduction studies are quite diagnostic. Treatment is usually by splints and steroid injections.
1467506 tn?1286413017 ) The pain begins at my knuckle joint and extends down all fingers, some wrist pain as well though that seems to come and go whereas finger pain is always there, just intensity changes with activity. I am planning on finding a hand doc this week but wanted to know if this sounded like anything any of you have experienced before. Might it be from the FM or is it most likely not related?
