Avatar n tn I have this problem, burning pain between index finger and 2nd finger. I cannot clench my fist unless I straighten index finger then I can make fist with the other three. I have never heard of this before, so if you have no answer I will have to goto.
Avatar m tn My question is regarding the first joint of my right hand index finger. I believe it is called the proximal interphalangeal joint. The joint has been very sensitive to the touch for a few weeks with no sign of abating. The joint also hurts a little if I bend it fully, but not nearly as much as if I just touch it with a little pressure. I do not see any outward signs of injury. It is not red or swollen. I have no similar pains in any other fingers or joints.
Avatar n tn Bend and extend the finger at the joint slowly to a range of motion possible without pain. Slowly increase the range of motion. With time the stiffness will go. You can also consult a sports injury center. Other possibilities are arthritis-rheumatoid, injury, inflammation of the sac of joint, finger prick, insect bite, allergy or contact dermatitis to something, tendon injury or inflammation, clot in blood vessel, infection of the skin or pulp of the finger etc.
Avatar n tn Do you have numbness of the index finger along with the pain? if yes, it could be carpal tunnel syndrome as it involves index finger mainly. Another possibility is of Raynaud’s phenomenon which is constriction of the blood vessels of the fingers and toes. But it is accompanied by skin color changes. Apply ice compresses over the finger. You can also take OTC pain killers. They should help. Also get your blood sugar levels evaluated.
Avatar m tn When scalene muscle is the cause of pain, the pain is referred to chest, inner lining of scapula (shoulder bone), shoulder, posterior and lateral sides of the arm right up to the thumb and index finger. Repeated clicking of mouse of computer can injure the tendon of index, cause compression of median nerve and also cause this numbness. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Take care!
Avatar n tn specifically, the two finger joints of the pinky, the top joint of the ring finger, the central joint of the middle finger and sometimes the knuckle and central joint of the index finger. My thumb's central joint can be popped but causes no pain or tightness. Pressing my hand flat on a surface and forcing it to remain there causes tightness at the wrist and I can feel what can only be described as a 'spring effect' at the knuckles when I release.
Avatar f tn It started off one night, I felt a pain in my middle joint of index finger, I started massaging it and it was painful, when I woke up, I had a swollen finger. After few days it increased in size, I had few scratches/sting like pins in the skin in that area, I was put on amoxicillin 2x every 12hrs and after like 4 days it decreased and got back to normal, then a week later it appeared again... it started with pains in the morning and night, but decreasing during the day.
Avatar n tn My problem is that my index finger falls asleep when I write or even scroll with a computer mouse. Even when I exercise the index finger starts tingling. Its really weird this has never happened to me before. Can you help? I'm not sure if its serious enough to see a doctor. Thanks for your help in advance.
Avatar m tn s no swelling. My wrist pops easily. The central knuckles of my index finger, middle finger and ring finger all hurt. The index finger also hurt a few days at the base, but stopped. I have a doctor's appointment on the 7th. Sorry for the repeated posts; just a little worried and the appointment seems so far away. If you were me, what you lean closer to? Arthritis or tendonitis?
Avatar n tn I have times when there is no swelling or pain and times when it really aches. It is definitely on the inside of the finger joint on the index finger side. I do not have insurance but I will be seeing the doctor in a few weeks if this does not heal. I have no fevers and the joint is not hot or warm when I touch it to my lips. There is no redness. Meanwhile I have found some things that help if anyone else has this.
Avatar m tn t been able to move that index finger for 4 weeks since the pins were still in there, as any movement in that finger caused extreme pain...but now my index finger seems to be stuck in that same position (slightly curved, as if holding a cup). I started OT the Thursday after the pins were removed, but I couldn't do half the tendon gliding exercises as I could not make a fist.
Avatar n tn The index finger of my left hand twitches on occassion. i have a bit of tingling in my left palm as well. What could be the reason for this twitch? Thanks, This discussion is related to Finger twitching and parkinsons, MS, neurological disorder, cardiovascular.
1427077 tn?1282913207 I have a lump on the top joint of my index finger which has been there for about 2 months now. Sometimes its sore but now always & its starting to get bigger. Is it worth getting it checked out?
1336836 tn?1275740921 What could cause my index finger to be numb and tingle when touching the joint of the finger?
Avatar f tn In your case the problem may have been there for a long time, but repeated clicking of the mouse (thus injuring the tendon of index finger) could have triggered the pain now. Application of ice pack, anti-inflammatory drugs, wearing wrist braces, stretching and strengthening exercises when the pain subsides and modification of the way you click mouse goes a long way in avoiding further injury and treating the present symptoms. Try these tips.
Avatar n tn ve been having increasingly frequent sharp, stabbing pain under my fingernail on my left index finger. It makes me wince every time. I also have a strange, semi-numb feeling on the palm side of that same fingertip. The fingernail looks nice and healthy. I've had a digital mucous cyst on my right index finger (which was removed surgically but is back almost as big). Both of these fingers have large bumps or swellings on them at the joint closest to the fingernail.
Avatar m tn This could be carpal tunnel syndrome due to entrapment of median nerve. it is caused by prolonged use of computer or thumb and index finger as in improper position of arm and wrist can result in mouse elbow. Application of ice pack, anti-inflammatory drugs, wearing wrist braces, stretching and strengthening exercises when the pain subsides and modification of the way you click mouse goes a long way in avoiding further injury and treating the present symptoms.

1625195 tn?1332178662 But my middle finger, index finger and thumb are definitely numb and slightly swollen. My index finger, though, is the only finger experiencing some pain along with the numbness and swelling. Things to note: I did not bang my elbow on anything. I have rested it while sitting at my computer and have been bending it and actively using my left arm where my left arm has had to bend fast and flex out with more than ten pounds (lifting and putting away groceries mostly).
Avatar f tn Usually the pain is at its worse during the night. It first starts with pins and needles then it feels like severe joint pain that gets worse. I've had this same finger hand pain before a few months back and it lasted for nearly a month then. At that time my doctor said it was trigger finger. She didn't seem sure and I thought it was strange to have trigger finger on all fingers on my left hand.
Avatar m tn Wish you had received an answer I have the same symptom. Index finger near the joint with a burning sensation, not when touching it but when carrying a plastic shopping bag or when my purse handles lay across the finger between the first and middle knuckle.
Avatar f tn Often proper working style, working without bending wrist, using smooth movements to operate the mouse and key pad, and relaxing the joints of finger, wrist and arm in between helps. A wrist support or arm support too helps and you have computer chairs with support for your spine and arm. In your case the problem may have been there for a long time, but repeated clicking of the mouse could have triggered the pain now.
Avatar n tn ve been thinking I have some sort of nerve damage and possibly anxiety related issues. Lately my index finger has began to twitch or tremor (not sure of the right term) it will move in a left and right direction for a period of time. It also seems to occasionally move forwards as well but rarely. 90% of the time this occurs when I'm sitting at my computer desk. I admit I have always had terrible posture in general.
Avatar m tn Hello, hoping someone might be able to help me with this. I was playing guitar and I hit the strings with my index finger. I didn't even notice at the time and it didn't hurt or even draw blood. But the finger was sensitive for a few days and then it started to swell. A few days later the entire top half of the finger was twice the size. I went to see a doctor and she x-rayed it and said she couldn't see anything inside it although the x-ray doesn't pick up everything.
Avatar m tn First it started swelling on my index finger, with a couple of visible red dots under the skin, and then it started on my ring finger, but the swelling was different, it got swollen at one point beyond the big joint of the finger and another swelling at the smaller joint of the finger. This time the swelling was hard to the touch. Like two red dots. And then my little finger started swelling too, but this one was different also.
Avatar m tn The bumps started showing over a week and as they got larger the joint pain spread up the finger and across the hand. As it got worse we noticed the pad on her hand next to the index finger was swelling with a lot of pain to the touch. We talked to another ortho doc and he said it was carpel tunnel, or trigger finger and wants to inject steroids. He did xrays and the bumps did not show so he ignored them and no other testing was done.
Avatar m tn Could there be a cyst under the vein or an aneurysm? It is on my lefthand index finger between the knuckle and first joint. I am a 65-year-old woman and did not injure the site.
Avatar f tn m a 28 year old female and I have been having swelling, stiffness and pain of my right index finger knuckle for over 2 years. It started off as a little right itchy bump on my knuckle (it kind of looked like a welt) and it felt like it was on fire. I noticed it would flare up when it would rain and there was high humidity. From there it has progressed to swelling and it is usually stiff. It has been swollen for so long now that it has started to deform my joint.
Avatar m tn Three days ago I woke up feeling pain in my right index finger. I kind of ignored it and it would just hurt sometimes when I did something in some positions like holding the mouse, typing on the keyboard and etc. Yesterday I woke up and realized my index finger is kind of swollen but not a lot. Like you could barely tell it was swollen. Now today my whole hands hurts like deep inside I feel this painful sharp pain and I think my finger is still a bit swollen.
