Avatar m tn hey um my i was bitting my finger nail and then it kinda came off, and now it wont grow normal like its not connected to the nail bed, a quick google search led me here with the conclusion on "onycholysis" my question is can it be fixed? images http://i45.tinypic.com/r8h4ow.jpg http://i50.tinypic.com/2zew490.
Avatar n tn The most common causes are bacterial or fungal infections which enters the skin around the nail that has been damaged by trauma, such as nail biting, finger sucking, dishwashing, or chemical irritants. The yellow-green color, indicates that a collection of pus has formed under the skin (called an abscess). If this is the case it may require an incision and drainage. Warm soaks in a mixture of 50% warm water and 50% liquid antibacterial soap 3-4 times daily for about 15 minutes.
Avatar n tn Hello, Trauma to the nail can cause blackening of the nail because of injury to the nail bed and spillage of blood in nailbed. It does not sound like a fungal infection. This bleeding can resolve on its own and if the symptoms of severe pain persists then drilling of the nail to release the blood may have to be done. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.Kind regards.
Avatar n tn Hello, You seem to be having onychomadesis which is separation and falling off of a nail from the nail bed. Common causes are trauma to the nail, localized infection, nail fungi, allergy to nail enhancement products or some systemic illnesses. My sincere advice is to consult a dermatologist and get a histopathological examination, culture and biopsy of the skin around the nails and the nails done. Hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn My index finger has chronic pain when it is exposed to cold temps. or if my circulation is lessened in that arm. It's just that finger and only at the finger nail, cuticle area. The feeling is similar to getting it smashed into something. Also, when no pain is present, if I hit it ever so slightly on something, it might as well have been smashed in a door, the feeling would be the same!
Avatar n tn ve noticed that the nail bed (and subsequently the overall length of the nail) of my ring finger on the left (guitar fretting) hand has gradually shortened. I believe that the trauma of fretting notes has introduced a stress point between the edge of the nail bed and the meat of the tip of my finger. This, in turn, is causing the nail to "uproot" from the nail bed. Currently, the nail bed on my left hand is approximately 2mm shorter than the nail bed on my right hand.
Avatar n tn My daughter said that this toddler put my daughter’s finger into her mouth, moved it to both inner cheeks, chewed on the side of the finger, and then bit hard on the nail. I saw no teeth marks anywhere and it didn’t look like there were any new scabs, or any scabs from what I remember under the nail. I could be wrong though, if it was very small. I'm so worried that the “biting hard on the nail” could've separated the nail from the finger and opened the skin.
Avatar m tn At the top of the fingernail, where it grows out fron the finger, is a small semi-circle of white then the rest of the finger nail is pinkish. Prior to moving to where I now live my nails all had this little area now 3 years later only my thumbs do. Can anyone tell me if this is something to be concerned about? Thanks for any help!!
Avatar f tn Everyone above is correct that recurrent trauma to the nail can damage the bed and have it fall off. My question for Jules is, do you have normal sensation at the tip of that toe and around the nailbed? If not, this is very likely the problem. In a good percentage of people the second toe (that's its name) is as long or longer than the great toe and is more at risk for trauma.
Avatar f tn Horizontal ridges and white lines on nails are seen in trauma to nail bed, kidney diseases, pellagra or Vit B3 deficiency, low protein, arsenic poisoning, and liver diseases. Hence a kidney and liver function test should be done.
Avatar n tn I am 25 and I also have severe helath anxiety. I had a splinter hemorrhage in January on the distal potion of a nail, two in may another finger, and another current one. The first was likely caused by a fall I had and two in May were almost certainly caused when I accidentally jammed a piece of plastic under my nail. I went to the doctor twice over these issues and he assured me I was fine. Nonetheless, I made him give me an echo to check for endocarditis...everything came back normal.
Avatar n tn It started on my left thumb nail(inside) and included some skin splitting and bleeding under my thumb nail. The finger print soon peeled away and my left index finger became affected in a similar way. I am left handed if that makes a difference. Other fingers also became involved, usually next to each other. Under the nail towards the tip it turns white almost like it is pulling away a little, and then reddish next to that. But this is only on one side of the nail.
Avatar m tn From the way your toe nail is looking I believe that there is a very good possibility that you are going to lose the toe nail. If that is the case your nail will grow back. I have lost a toe nail before.
Avatar n tn He rubbed my crotch then rubbed and pressed against my anus with his finger (seemingly trying to enter) for a couple seconds. His finger nail scratched a little. I stopped the situation and nothing else occurred. I have some feeling of irritation on my anus. I've had HSV-2 for many years. Has this incident put me at risk for any STD or other type of infection?
Avatar m tn Most people present with a history of asymptomatic hyperpigmentation of the nail plate. The other harmless possibility which I can think of is melanotic macule of the nail unit. The causes of melanonychia striata are many and most of them are non serious which include physiologic longitudinal melanonychia, systemic disorders, trauma, inflammatory disorders, fungal infections, drugs, and benign melanocytic hyperplasias.
Avatar n tn Thanks Brandywinne To geminigirl1963 , the old nail already from 1 week dropped and now the new nail is only cover the half of the finger and it is like it will never grow as it show like my other nails , meaning i am afraid that the process is already finished without letting the new nail grow to full.
Avatar n tn I have extreme anxiety right now and I need clarity to put peace in my mind. Today I went to get a manicure and I was so happy until I noticed the nail salon person had dry peeling skin near her thumb near the nail bed. I kept looking at it and looking it wasnt a cut ir bleeding or oozing. But the skin was a little pink and the dry and peeling. Could she have whitlow on her finger? What are the chances? And if it was could she have spread it to me ?
Avatar f tn my nail has the same length of my nail from my uninjured hand, except that it slightly curves. It doesn't really curve completely *over* the finger, but it does curve. The main part that is missing is the fleshy bit behind the nail: my actual fingertip. There is basically no fingertip. When I type, for example, the only part that touches (and can touch) the keys is my nail.
Avatar f tn s started to bleeding when i got the cut by my finger nail , i dont know how long red and dark spot like blood stay in my finger nail , its same no risk?
Avatar n tn two days ago i slammed my middle finger in the door and instantly my nail started turning black. now the tip of my finger is swollen and the nail is still black. i dont think its broken because i can still bend it.
Avatar n tn I am hurting myself and my mental health plays a part in this. It is a viscious cycle, slowly picking the nail, removing the nail then the aftermath or painful toes and fingers and feeling disappointed in myself. For me I am focusing on self-care and taking care of my body and not wrecking or hurting it. Building self-compassion for myself so I treat it with care and not damage or hurt myself. Also using healthier ways to relieve my stress, like meditating or breathing exercises.
Avatar n tn My finger nail was crushed and halfway down the nail bed, the nail is torn and slightly poking into the cuticle. The nail is still attached to my skin at the top of the nail and in the bed at the bottom. This happened last night and my finger is slightly numb, swollen, and there is a lot of what looks like discharge (oily?). It’s been lightly bleeding. I can move my finger and curl it slightly with some pain. Do I need to go to urgent care or can this be taken care of at home?
Avatar m tn Unfortunately, if these cells are destroyed the nail will not re-grow. From your symptoms it looks like superficial burn of the finger nail which should soon regrow. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar m tn What it appears to be is a cornified growth, almost like a defectve claw that can occasionally happen due to trauma to the initial bud of the nail. The trauma results in essentially of splitting of the nail bud and then two nails grow from it. If it isnt bothering your cat then best leave it alone.
Avatar f tn I have a very annoying callus or growth on my right hand ring finger just next to the nail bed it grows to form a hard and rough chunk of yellowish skin and eventually annoys me so much that I remove it either by biting or using nail scissors! When it's the rough skin it doesn't really cause me pain but when I remove a lot of it it it tends to feel rough but soft and starts to feel swollen and sore. It doesn't matter how many times I cut it away it just keeps growing back!
