Avatar f tn t worry about the nail tech using his finger nail and getting something from that. You would know by now if you get a bacterial infection. Also, In my opinion I don't think you would get anything the way you describe.
Avatar f tn Hi people, i was going to write to the docter himself but i have been looking on here and people give near enough the same advice so here it goes, i just wanted to ask if someone has blood on there finger nail and they poke that into you can you get infected with hiv?
Avatar f tn Hello, Went to an HIV clinic for testing. While the technician stepped out for a minute, I noticed there was a paperclip on the table. I "straightened it out" and used one of the ends clean under a finger nail. Don't recall if there was blood on the clip, but obviously the clip wasn't in a pool of blood or semen. I did poke myself a little hard with the clip and I do recall seeing that I had some blood come out from under my nail.
Avatar f tn ^^^^ what she said. That means you can no longer go into nail or hair salons anymore too. I have a habit of biting my nails so I used to get the acrylics put on to keep me from doing that. Had to let them fall off because the fumes are so strong. Hair salons are worse if they've been dying hair all day.
Avatar f tn Natural nail salons are popular. You can call ahead to see if it's busy and go in during down time or visit a beauty school which are usually only doing one at a time. I go to a spa and it costs the same but a better experience.
407029 tn?1253992623 Nail salons are a nasty place...they are not regulated by any govts....they can say they sterilize but they dont have too....ask to inspect the place first...be damn careful if ya cant take care of your own nails...you have a problem anyway...
Avatar f tn Yea. Just wear a mask if the smell is too strong.
Avatar f tn I hate to connect nail salons with my experience, but I really feel it contributed to my last pregnancy ending. Last september, I found out I was expecting. During the last week of September, we had an ultrasound and saw the baby and his/her perfect and sweet heartbeat. On our anniversary in October, my husband sent me to the nail salon. I ended up getting acrylics and remember the fumes in the room being extremely strong. The next day, I started bleeding and cramping.
Avatar m tn Hello I work at a nail salon and while working on this lady I cut her finger accidentally and the blood came on my fingers. Then My supervisor took the lady to treat her woond. And I took the sharp instrument to clean it with a tissue and it cut me and ironically in the same finger as the lady. Do I have a rik from her blood splashed on my finger as I have a small cut? Do I have a risk from being cut the same sharp object with her blood present on it?
Avatar n tn I told her no, but I soon realized that I share nail clippers at the nail salons. This is the only way I know I could have gotten this. I was wondering if anyone else has heard of this.
Avatar f tn It's fine. . Just wear a mask to cover your nose and mouth If you can't handle the Smell.. They should have them there, you can just ask for one and if you go to a nail salon make sure they properly clean their tools.

Avatar f tn Nail salons are legally obligated by state to have proper ventilation to prevent over exposure to the fumes. If you are overly sensitive to smells you might to wait but it shouldn't be harmful to your baby.
Avatar f tn Nail salons aren't a risk for HIV. The only risks are to have unprotected vaginal or anal sex or to share IV needles to inject drugs. Air and saliva inactivate the virus. So, hiv is not going to be transmitted in a nail salon.
Avatar f tn I still get acrylics done and I'm 37 weeks. The trained nail techs learn things like that and if they see danger in it they should tell you at the salon. All I know is done salons don't do pregnant women's pedicures. I think you're fine.
Avatar f tn If you do them your self make sure your in an open and very ventilated area. Same with dying your hair. Lots of nail salons and hair salons advise against even entering the shop when pregnant.
Avatar f tn Anything you do to your body or put in your body can cross the membrane into your baby. They say don't go to nail salons and dye your hair. My guess is a big no no.
Avatar f tn Gloves should be worn when doing dishes. Nails should be cut short, and nail salons and nail polish remover should be avoided. Petroleum jelly (Vaseline) or olive oil holds the moisture around the nails and decreases breakage. Biotin, zinc and/or glucosamine chondroitin may afford some decrease in breakage, but this has not been proven. found this, I think hydration has a lot to do with, There we more articles on this and other womans topics and HCV.
Avatar f tn Of course u can paint ur nails.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone! I'm sorry if this is a silly question. I was on holiday ten days ago, and lent my friend my nail clippers (I can't remember for sure). I don't know if she has Hep C, no known risk factors besides she visits salons (not sure that counts). Tonight (ten days later) I cut myself on those clippers. In the unlikely event she had Hep C, and cut herself, would the blood/ Hep C on those clippers be dry and dead by now?
Avatar f tn Just wear one of those masks like some of the nail artists wear. You can get them at any hardware store or if yours does wear them ask if you could have one. Just to be on the safe side. Heck, they wear them so there must be something to it. Well some do...Ofcourse they are in building all day.
Avatar f tn Your fine, but make sure your nail salon uses sterile nail tools (prego or not). When I go I make an apt for first thing when my nail salon opens @ 9am. Less chemical fumes that way.
Avatar m tn Can HIV live in nail polish made without formaldehyde, toulene, and dibutyl phthalate? Is the ethly and butyl acetate sufficient to deactivate any blood-borne viruses such as HIV and Hepatitis? Or do the chemicals help preserve the virus? I'm assuming that salons sometimes apply polish on people who had bleeding cuticles, so I'm wondering if any viruses in their blood could survive in the polish and be transferred to others.
Avatar f tn I also feel uneasy because the nail tech used his nail to smudge my nail where nail polish had got on my skin, and subsequently also rubbed where the cut and previously bleeding cuticle was. What if he did the same thing with someone else’s bloody nail?
12848636 tn?1428597463 The chemicals in the nail salon from the acrylics can be harmful to the baby when I get mine done I ask for a mask to protect my baby
Avatar f tn I know I might be a little paranoid here but I heard that small hand and finger injurys could become very bad. I got a tiny stab wound by a wood shishkabob stick right on the underside of my knuckle joint of my pointer finger. It drew less than a drop of blood but over the course of the day, my finger got sore. I will continue to monitor but any info I can get would be really helpful.
