Fibromyalgia and muscle twitching

Common Questions and Answers about Fibromyalgia and muscle twitching

fibromyalgia

5 years ago I started to get muscle twitching and spasms in my arms and fingers. I also noticed blurred vision from time to time. The twitching would often last for hours. I went to Dr and was tested for MS. I had an MRI done and no leasons were found on my brain. Since then the twitches have gotten worse. I now get them on my arms, fingers, face, legs and back. I am a 41 yr old male physical education teacher. I have been to 2 other Drs since my first visit 5 yrs ago.

I have found some articles about fasciculations associated with fibromyalgia and chronic fatige syndromes. I have had trouble with trigger points, headaches and muscle tension for years. Any advice for relief? Thank you.
I'm new here and I haven't had a fibromyalgia diagnosis, but I have had muscle twitching all over (mostly in my legs) and that has died down quite a bit, but I've have tired muscles and I have been so tired. I get tender spots that hurt for no reason to the touch. This past Saturday I went dancing and almost didn't make it through the first song, my legs started to hurt so bad. I woke up the next morning and it felt like someone had beat my legs with a baseball bat.

In the last 5 years or so I have had constant migraines and jaw pain, and in just the last couple of weeks have had the muscle weakness, muscle twitching, aching muscles and horrible menstrual cramps. Wherever there is muscle and fascia (layer of connective tissue covering the muscle), there will be pain. There are two muscle under the breast which can start the pain.
The characteristic feature of Fibromyalgia is a muscle pain mostly in neck, back, thighs, and hips. There is presence of specific tender points in these areas that trigger the pain. Along with this there is morning stiffness in the muscles, brain fog, dizziness and other neurological symptoms. Since you are suffering from pain specifically located at the joints, and it started after the flu, the pains are related to the viral infection.

Hi, Muscle twitches do occur in CFS. Please read under the ‚Äúneurological and cognitive manifestations‚ÄĚ in the Wikipedia article on CFS. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronic_fatigue_syndrome On an average 80% patients with CFS have muscle twitching so it is fairly common but does not occur in everybody. Hope this helps!
There is so much bad info on the net, but my understanding is als very rarely presents with twitching, and in the cases when it does the twitching stays localized for a while and then spreads later on. I am thinking my twitching might be due to bfs, fibromyalgia, anxiety, or a combination of the three. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I almost can't function regularly due to my als fear.
I had extreme twitching around my eyes and on my face about three months after onset in April 2006. It was severe and lasted about three months and then was gone. I am not dx with MS but have been between ADEM and MS all of this time. They both do the same kind of damage so maybe it is common, I'm not for sure, but I did have it bad around my eyes and the nerves looked like they were jumping up and dancing, literally!
about your husbands muscle twitching. Has he had his kidneys tested. Does he have high blood pressure? Does he get up and use the bathroom alot more at night time than in day. Does his urine leave a foam in toilet. These are signs of kidney failure.
However so has twitching and it won't stop. If one part of my body stops twitching, another one starts. I went to a neuro six months back when it initially started and he said its probably BFS and said I should just relax. Should go and get it checked again ?. Is EMG recommended ? Is there any other options like taking magnessium supplements ?

His level turned out to be normal. I have had 2 sleep studies for my fibromyalgia and when my rheumatologist checked, my folates and ferritin levels were low (as was the vitamin D and B12). While my sleep studies were done a few years ago and did show sleep disorder, these findings are new and I have noticed some twitching (especially in my hips/legs) that occasionally will cause my whole body to jerk up from the bed when I go into sleep.
He sent me to a specialist for fibromyalgia. She sent me for a ton of blood work and and a EEG and everything was normal. She then sent me to a neurologist that stated I had hyper reflexes but that it didn't mean anything. He had me repeat the EEG and it was also normal. I have good days and bad days but I noticed that when I was off of work for 10 days, I was feeling much better....dare I say almost normal??
It started with a mild fever and sore throat then violent headaches, disorientation, muscle and joint pain, muscle twitching(fasiculation)in all muscle groups, Irregular heart beats, severe stiffening of the jaw and facial muscles, abdominal pain. I too was treated for depression, seen neurologist for EMG, MRI, Cardiologist, ENT specialist, nobody found a thing.
Viruses can cause nerve damage and widespread muscle twitching rarely, but do not tend to cause localized rashes as you describe. Fasciculations involving the whole body are more likely to be benign, especially if no other neurological signs appear over time such as muscle weakness or wasting. Fasciculations can also occur from an overacitive thyroid gland (this should be checked for with blood tests), certain medications, excercise, cold exposure, pinched nerves or spinal cord problems.
I also have a B12 deficiency and take shots twice a week. I too have muscle twitching and numbness and tingling in my hands and feet. I am going to see a Neurologist because my doctor told me that b12 deficiency can cause nerve problems. I am not sure if vitamin d can cause nerve problems as well as the b12. I have terrible headaches and the eye doctor said that the nerves in my eyes were inflamed.
I started having bouts of very painful feet when I golfed and in August of this year, my left eye started twitching uncontollably, my feet have become progressively painful, but it is hit or miss, some days they are ok some they are very painful, twitching all over my body has increased, my left shoulder is painful from time to time and sleeping has been disturbed by the twitching and muscle pain. My left hand falls asleep most nights and my joints are cracking and popping.
I've never had back pain before and I didn't lift anything heavy or strain my back. I'm also having leg cramps and muscle twitching, i can feel the twitch in my upper arms and in my legs. At first I thought it was my Calcium being too low but my calcium levels are fine. Just recently, three days ago, after taking a calcium supplement, an intense burning came in my legs.. this was the first time. I mean I never experienced anything like this before!
