Common Questions and Answers about Fentanyl and oxycodone

my father is on the Fentanyl Patch and Oxycodone and is experiencing the side effects of not eating, sweating; weakness- he is wasting away. His legs are numb from knees down and has extreme pain in his hands from neopathy. Is there any help out there?
Has anyone ever gone to rehab to be medically detoxed from Fentanyl and Oxycodone? I've been on pain meds for about two years now. I've only been on Fentanyl for three months but I want off everything. I feel like I'm in a constant fog. I hate the way I feel. The Fentanyl is making me depressed really bad. It also gives me anxiety. I have chronic pain but I think I would rather be in pain then deal with the way pain meds make me feel.
I now have great pain in both areas. I do not know what to do. I am on Fentanyl at 50 mcg every three days and about 4 percocets per day for break out pain. Really this does not stop my pain so I am at the point of thinking after a couple of years of being on oxy and now this to just get off it all. I am very scared that I am addicted. Since I am going to have a lot of pain either way I am wondering if I should just try and come off it all ? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I take Fentanyl , and Oxycodone 20mg 4 times a day.I was in a motorcycle accident in 2003 messed my back up, and in 2011 found out I had staged 4 breast Cancer! Had both of my breast removed, been on chemo every scene. Had radiation last year....I just got in remission about 2 months ago!!!! Im still on chemo until my doctor says otherwise. So as far as me chewing on my Patches I don't do it no more, read a lot about it and it explain's a lot about side effects. Thanks for your support .....
Type in Fentanyl and read their posts. It literally changes who you are and makes your pain seem to increase. My husband n sons are so happy to have me back, I am too! :) I'm 18 days Fentanyl free and my pain is more tolerable now than without it.
I have been off Fentanyl and orals opiates for a month. I am having a hard time with anxiety, depression. how long will this last?
Hi , I was on Fentanyl Patches and I went cold turkey off and the doctor said that I should not have done that , I was very sick it's been 1 week and he put me on Oxycodone to get me through the withdraws , how long will this last and will I be ok?
I began taking it even when I did not need it for pain and became addicted and tolerant to the medication... About 5 months ago, I got on Fentanyl Patches at 25mcg then increased it to 50, and now am on 75... I need to get off this and tried last month and I couldn't, it was too hard... My question is, what is the right way to get off of the Fentanyl without wanting to die. I am a registered nurse and am getting my nurse practitioner degree and will be done with my masters degree shortly...
I was prescribed very high dosages of Oxycontin and Oxycodone at the height of my illness and chronic pain issues. After my last reduction, I have tapered down to 15mg of Oxycodone 4 x per day, and, like you, I just want this to be over with. It's been a year of tapering, and this last reduction was brutal. I am still very irritable, and can relate to what you're saying about no one being able to understand it.
There are days that the Patch is all that is needed, and then there are days that I have to take all 4 of the Oxycodone. It's a good indicator when it's time to have the medicine changed when I have to take the break through pain when resting. It took me a couple of years to figure out when it was joint pain or muscle pain. Now, I know when it's better to take a couple of muscle relaxers and go laid down than keep going and making the pain worse.
So i asked the Doc to get off the Fentanyl and he said OK and gave me my normal dose of Vicoprofen. Of course i'm having big time whidrawls from not being on the Fentanyl. So my question is what do i need to overlap 75mcg off Fentanyl?. do i need to go to Percocet or something else to not have the whidrawls coming back ?. The way this started was my Doc wanted me to get on something ER and i been on MS Contin but did not help much.
Well, as one could imagine over the years my doses have turned from viodic, to Oxycodone to Fentanyl Patches and Oxycodone. Now I have beeen taking 15 Patches of 100 mcg of the Patch and 300 5mg tabs of Oxycodone because of supposed arthritis in my back.. Now I am wanting off of these meds for good, My back pain still feels very real as I am now day 6 into my last Patch and ocycodone pill. I went to the ER two nights ago because I feet so bad coming off of those drugs. What can I do.
Hello, I've been on 300 mcg Fentanyl & 120 mg Oxycodone for over 8 yrs. I started seeing a new Dr 12/31/2012, she first told nme she wanted NOTHING to do with my pain meds, she referred me to a PS. Since I couldn't get into see him until April, she decided to decrease my pain meds, the first time she dropped my Oxy to 60 mgs. then 17 days later she decreased my Fentanyl to 50mcg & my Oxy to 15 mg, it's been 6-7 days & my body is going thru alot of different things....
have been on 300 mcg Fentanyl Patch every 3 days, 120 mg Oxycodone, 8 mg Tizanidine, 3 mg Lorazepam a day for the past 8 yrs, new PC cut me down to 100 mcg Fentanyl, 30 mg Oxycodone a day in 19 days (then discharged me from her practice), am experiencing EXTREME pain, vomiting, nausea, stomach cramps, watery eyes, sweats, fever, severe increase in blood pressure, muscle spasms, IRRITABILITY, anxiety, insomnia.
will my child suffer from worse with drawls off the so called very low dose my surgeon and the obgyn agreed on of Fentanyl or the Oxycodone 15's i was taking. It just doesn't make since to me since Fentanyl from everything i researched on it, it is way more powerful than Oxycodone so how can they say it is safer for my child.
There are many, many ppl that take the combination of Fentanyl and Oxycodone plus other respiratory reducing drugs as mellie said ....and don't expire. The question then becomes...why your father? I am so sorry that I don't have those answers for you. I've said repeatedly that our systems are all different and respond differently to medications. I know that doesn't help ease your grief but this just may have been a fluke. I don't think for a minute that the PMP was irresponsible.
Fentanyl pain Patch 100mch/hr and 15mg of Oxycodone 3 times a day. I live in Florida and of course the laws here have gone totally nuts. I was getting my meds from my rheumatologist and all was good with the world. With the law change I was shipped off to pain management. That needless to say has been a total cluster to say the least. I get that in their eyes im using these meds for a saturday night party. Thats the standard dogma. But they treat me like im some scum off the street.
I need to get these kids sort of on board here to help out, at least a little. Right now I'm down from 75 mcg. Fentanyl to 50 and from 9 Oxycodone to 1-2 (30 mg.) I'm having some withdrawal. Yesterday was bad. Today is a bit more bearable ... queasy, in and out of the bathroom, no motivation. A little shaky. Talked to the doctor today and expressed my issues. I'll be seeing her Monday morning so I have from now until then to do my research.
Fentanyl caused me some depression and there were times I'd start crying for no reason at all. I chose to come off it for that and other reasons.
I was on 4 30mg Oxycodone, and 3 40mg oxycontin a day and my doctor prescribed me a 25mcg Patch and 3 10mg Oxycodones a day. Is the Fentanyl Patch really supposed to replace that much of my other pills or does that sound like a drastic change to you guys? I'm just curious because i just got them today and I know its going to take a few hours for the Patch to kick in and I'm already in more pain that I was before because I'm not taking near as many meds.
he has put me on Fentanyl Patches 25mcg and Oxycodone 10/325 3x a day for breakthrough pain. i havnt taken any of this med. yet. i am a lil aprehensive about taking the Patches. it states on the package "for use with opiod tolerant patients" im not sure but i did a lil research and most people dont make the jump from hydocodone to Fentanyl. most go to morpine Oxycodone etc...
but it is uncomfortable. Fentanyl leaves the body more slowly than Oxycodone and so you should be off it for at least 2-3 days, and be in moderate or worse withdrawal-- that way when you start the Suboxone you will feel better, instead of the other way around. One caveat... I know you want to 'hurry', but realize that opiate addiction is a horrible, serious, potentially fatal condition. You have spend a year chewing a skin Patch-- and that has had profound impact on your body.
From my experience, and what I've been told by my doc, it's when you get down to the really low dosages that the withdrawal gets quite severe (ie - when you start reducing off of the Percocet once you're done with the Fentanyl). If I were you, I would get off of the Fentanyl first and while doing so start with the other pain management options (ie -- TENS). You have only been taking it since November, so your withdrawal shouldn't be as severe as someone who has been taking it longer-term.
I want to get of of these things, between them and Oxycodone I'm done. Was just on 15 mg of oxy for about 2 years. Was going to Fl in June this year was talking to my pharmist about pain.Told him I was taking my grandson to Universil Studio he told me the pain meds I was on would not help the pain in my ankle and up my leg from a very bad broking ankle that happened years ago.I have a rod ans pins in the ankle, bad back and a bad knee from favoring my right leg all these years.
I need new info if there is any. Is sundowner still out there and are you off them? I am going through hell and wonder how long this will have to go on. Down to the 25 now.
I was prescribed Fentanyl and Oxycodone for severe back pain. I noticed it the last few weeks that my current script 25mgs Fentanyl 4 percs was not working and decided instead of going up to get off the d@#@ s&^&. I am just not myself on it and I would consistently be checking how many I had and deciding on when to do things based on my medication. I can't do it anymore so here I am.
