Does diflucan kill probiotics

Common Questions and Answers about Does diflucan kill probiotics

diflucan

Avatar f tn You may already know this -- If you are taking bacteria-based probiotics (like acidophilus), the antibiotics will kill the (good bacteria) probiotics along with the (bad bacteria) Lyme if they are taken too close together in time. How close is too close I don't know. My LLMD insisted on patients taking Florastor, which is a yeast-based probiotic not affected by antibiotics.
Avatar m tn s healthy bacteria. All the diflucan does is kill the bad bacteria (which causes the yeast infections)...but it kills the body's healthy bacteria along with it. You need to rebuild that in your system. It totally works!!
87651 tn?1259602403 You're just wasting money if you take probiotics while taking nystatin and/or antibiotics, because those meds kill the probiotics. It's usually following treatment with antibiotics, particularly long-term or repeated uses, and nystatin is just another type of antibiotic, that kills off the beneficial bacteria and creates the perfect opportunity for candida yeast to move in and get nice and comfy and hard to dislodge.
Avatar f tn Okay I've had yellow discahrge and burning since last July. I've been tested for STI's all were negative. Well last Friday my girlfriend took me to the hospital because of the burning and the pain the hospital tested for trich yeast gonherra and chlymidia. They said it was all negative and sent me home. Well I went to my gyno Tuesday and she checked me for yeast and said I had a horrible yeast infection that I had to have for months.
Avatar f tn I tried 2 of 3 days of an otc yeast medicine and had my doctor call in 1 pill of diflucan all with no relief. I also recently washed all of my underwear in a hypoallergenic detergent and still nothing. Can someone point me in the direction of what it could be? I'm not sure I can wait til Monday to see a doctor!
Avatar n tn t adequately lubricated. My OB/GYN prescribed me with Diflucan, I took the dosage and it was gone. We had sex again, yeast infection came back, got another prescription, gone again. Had sex again, it came back AGAIN but this time I went to a different OB/GYN to get a second opinion. Turns out this time I had a yeast infection AND bacterial vaginosis. At this time I went and got tested to make sure I didn't have anything and I came back all negative.
Avatar m tn He usually prescribes hydrozyzine for the itching and a hydrocortizone cream. One time he gave me anti biotics and he has also given me diflucan. nothing ever seems to help and the best answer my doctor can give me is that its probably just something to do with bacteria. I have been tested for stds and have not had sex since this has been happening! there are small reddish colored bumps that are usually there once in awhile they will go away for a few days.
Avatar m tn You can try some saltwater gargles and probiotics. If your thrush persists, call your doctor for some Diflucan.
Avatar f tn Btwn school and work I have no time for a docs appt!! Do you think my dr would prescribe me diflucan over the phone w/o seeing? Also what r some over the counter medications that will clear it up if she won't prescribe me something w/o seeing me?
Avatar f tn I would see the dr before changing or stopping or slowing the meds. Stopping and restarting antibiotics is something the doc should approve, since the bacteria can become resistant to the meds by being wounded but not killed. One thing to ask is about yeast infection. Docs (even LLMDs) are sometimes not very savvy about these things, and I got a huge systemic yeast infection that several docs (not just my LLMD) didn't recognize as such.
Avatar m tn I just went to the Doctor yesterday and confirmed via swab that I still have yeast. I still have rawness in 1 spot/ some anal itching. I've used 14 days clotrimazole, 4 doses diflucan, and now 7 days terazol. The doctor told me to do 1 more dose terazol and diflucan once a week. I don't think this will solve anything. I'm sure as soon as i stop the terazol it will come right back. BTW, I use student health services and although she is an MD, she is not a gyno. Any advice?
Avatar m tn It absolutely depends upon the quality and quantity of your probiotic. You want to take one that is in the billions count and is a good brand. You will then want to double dosage at the beginning to saturate your system. Are you looking to help replace and replenish good bacteria from killing bad bacteria with antibiotics? Probiotics will not kill bad bacteria!
Avatar f tn since then i have been to my gyno who cultured my yeast infection and said best medication for it was diflucan, so he also prescribed me to diflucan for 7 days-never went away. then he again prescribed me diflucan 150 once for 3 weeks. never went away!!! this is my first yeast infection so i dont know why diflucan will not cure me. i am 22 years old, smoke and drink on the weekends, work out regularly, work nights, recently pretty stressed.
1654058 tn?1407159066 I've been using Nystatin miracle mouth off n on for months. I use Monostat even on the corners of my mouth w great success. Til now. Arch!!! Driving me crazy n painful to eat. Whattamess. Do you think Dr will call in Diflucan? I'm gonna try tomorrow. 37th peg shot w 11 to go this week. I feel like I'm just breaking down.
Avatar n tn whate tonge may be related to exessive use of antiboitic, antiboitic kill good germs beside bad germs, killing good germs will give a chance for candida albicans (fungi) to live freely and colonize the place. the more clarithromycin you take the more it it prolonged even with transient remession. and u did the culture for bacteria not for candida.
Avatar f tn They didnt want me to talk diflucan that early. I am the same way as u. Nothing works but diflucan for me. so i know how u feel.
Avatar f tn my doc prescribes me antibiotics everytime, but i just dont feel safe taking them during my pregnancy. I bought some GNC probiotics to take instead of the antibiotics but the warning label says to advice health care provider before taking them. But my apt isnt until weds. Has anyone taken probiotics during pregnancy? & did it cause any harm to the baby?
Avatar f tn I take probiotics. I recently found a relatively high strain of probiotics that I am taking and it seems to be getting better. I am taking that along w femanol. I hope with time my body bounces back to normal. Its been quite a journey.
Avatar f tn Hi. More probiotics....way more. I insert a couple of probiotics capsules in my vagina once a week or less. I know the pharmacists have a recommended dosage on in the bottle.but I researched first and have taken way more. All is good.
1472764 tn?1287588186 Probiotics are good to take when you are having to take antibiotics...they help maintain balance so you don't get things like yeast infections. The can help keep your intestineal flaura balanced and it wouldn't hurt. Unfortunately, not only are you prone to getting yeast infections...you are also pregnant (which tends to lead to yeast infections)...and weren't you on antibiotics recently? Does your doctor know that it usually takes a couple rounds to get rid of your yeast?
Avatar f tn Hm - have you tried taking probiotics? You can get much higher doses of probiotics when taking a supplement than you can get in commercial yogurts. If you try, make sure you read up on them a little bit. Some brands don't contain the number of active cultures they claim to contain. A lot of times, you need to take one that requires refrigeration. There are several shelf-stable varieties; I've taken Pearls and have read good things about them. Hope that helps!
Avatar m tn The pill my doctor gives me is Diflucan. She only gives it to me when I have one. I get one whenever I have to take antibiotics.. It does not matter how much freaken yogart I eat. I think the diet goes for when you start getting them and I did not get a yeast infection ever until I had sex as well. So I am thinking that it could help. Although since I only get them when I take antibiotics I never paid attention to looking for the diet again.
1364835 tn?1278606642 ) The probiotics take a while to help get rid of yeast. Remember your stomach is still irritated from the infection you said you had earlier this year. This will leave people with ibs for a while. If you feel really bad then always go to er. If this does not start to feel any better in a few weeks then remember to ask for hida scan and the cdiff tests.
Avatar f tn Need to rant lol I'm so frustrated! In the beginning of my pregnancy, I was diagnosed with bv, and was treated for it...and ever since I got treated I've gotten yeast infections every few weeks...today I was diagnosed with chronic yeast and put on a new med to help it...if that doesnt work, she's going to put me on diflucan for a couple weeks...its been so rough! This is my 4th one in 20 weeks and I'm so sick of them...
2118271 tn?1337463104 I have a white coating on my tongue that mostly went away on Diflucan but has since slowly made its return back. Most of it brushes off, but more and more its staying there since the Diflucan. And brain fog... Is this anxiety? Am i just over worrying about something? I read about candida online but then the doctor says it can't be that. What are your thoughts? Going crazy!!!
1464587 tn?1307491605 t realize until recently, that if you take antibacterial medicine (like antibiotics) or supplements (like grapefruit seed extract and others) too close to when you take your bacteria-based PRObiotics, then the antibiotics will also kill the probiotics. Lose/lose. If you have not called your doc's office about the diarrhea, please consider doing so. I would. You shouldn't have to be figuring this stuff out yourself or on websites like this.
Avatar f tn Yes, the antibiotics will kill off good and bad flora in the GI tract. They will also kill off the probiotics if the antibiotics and probiotics are taken together. Many are suggesting probiotics be taken concurrently with taking any form of antibiotics as long as they are taken at least 2-3 hours after taking the antibiotics, and the course of treatment with probiotics should be taken long after the antibiotics are discontinued.
