diabetes

Avatar f tn You may also have LADA type diabetes, which is adult slow onset type 1 diabetes (in this case, treatment should always be insuin).
Avatar n tn I assume you get regularly tested for thyroid to make sure that isn't the cause of your weight gain and you don't need an adjustment in thyroid meds. Insulin doesn't make people gain weight, though sometimes people lose weight when initially diagnosed with very high numbers and when their blood sugar gets under control they continue eating the same way and gain weight. Another cause of weight gain in Type 1's is insulin resistance.
Avatar f tn I e-mailed the diabetes education nurse at Joslin Diabetes Center and she responded that a weight loss diet has to be customized for the person. So poster diabetes86 is correct that there is no "diabetes" diet. For your father, you should look for a diabetes program (free if possible) that will show him (and you) what to eat, how much and how often. There is literature to read and make note of.
Avatar f tn my son was diagnosed at age 10 with type I diabetes. He is on insulin shots, and has to watch what he eats....... diet for both type I and type II are about the same -- cut out sugar, aim for complex carbs, high protein/fiber.... (I have a sister who was only dx'd with Type I a few yrs ago and she's nearly 80 yrs old). Your friend should get tested for antibodies to determine which type he has....

Avatar f tn Is there any pills I can take to help me lose weight I'm a type 1 diabetic

Avatar n tn Recently I had an overall checkup, they checked for pretty much everything. My doc said the test were great. I took the test early in the morning. I checked the lab test online and seen that I had fasting glucose of 105 and according to their online index table it was out of normal range. I emailed my Doc and he said that reading of 105 did not concern him. But is 105 pre-diabetic? I'm 27, male. 6'0 and 160, not overweight at all, in fact I'm too skinny for being a male.

Avatar n tn i have diabetes type 1 and am trying to loose a few extra pounds. i'm not exactly sure how to do this since i have to eat carbs, i suppose i could talk to my doctor and lower my dose to eat less carbs, but is there an easier way?
Avatar n tn Hello SaturnStroll, NOne of us here is a physician, but we're pretty experienced and knowledgeable about this disease. Many overweight folks who develop diabetes have Type 2, but you haven't mentioned whether you have Type 2 or Type 1. Do you know which type you have? Folks with Type 2 who return to a healthy weight can often stop taking meds and can control their diabetes with exercise and a sensible diet.
Avatar n tn Diabetes type-1 is due to destruction of insulin cell means the body get deficient of insulin, in this case the amount of the blood sugar rises. It can be prevented. Diabetes type-2 occurs when the body is not able to use insulin in appropriate manner. It can be prevented with healthy lifestyle.
Avatar m tn This can be adult onset as well. Treatment for type 1 diabetes is always insulin (combined with diet and other lifestyle measures to help management). Hope this is helpful for you.
Avatar f tn sorry but i feel you have missed what i was trying to get across, perhaps i didnt write clearly enough, this child is anorexic and certainly does not need further diet and weight loss tips! this is an illness as much as her diabetes is, she is frequently told by docs that she wiil not survive, let alone also being told of the complications she faces, she cannot take it on board.this is so disheartening and makes me feel even more isolated than i did previously,no one understands.
Avatar m tn Fasting hyperglycemia can happen with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is caused by lack of insulin and the treatment is injected insulin, exercise and careful management of diet. Type 2 is initially caused by insulin resistance and there will initially be high levels of insulin that cannot be properly used by the body. Treatment can be diet, exercise, weight loss, and medications.
5274485 tn?1385860167 Latent Autoimmune Diabetes can be managed by exercise, weight loss (for some) and a proper diet. This condition has been also called as Type 1.5 (one and a half) Diabetes by other Diabetes specialists. LADA is obviously different from Type 1 because LADA begins very slowly.
Avatar f tn What are the symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes? I have a child who is extremely tired and thirsty all the time. Should I have him checked for diabetes?
Avatar n tn I think last year my weight was 59kg. So what could be the reason for my weight loss? I walk everyday, my diet is good and healthy, my times for eating meals are very much on time, I am a strict vegetarian, milk, once a week tofu are the main sources of protiens. There are almonds, veggies, and fruits are included in my diet. Though my own business needs a lot of physical work too, but has been for 10 years. So what is the reason for my weight loss. I am really worried. I dont feel tired.
Avatar n tn My Doctor told me (Type II) that I needed to get my A1C under 7.0. I am currently at 6.5 and with my weight loss, he is slowly cutting me back from medications.
Avatar f tn Does she have a buffalo hump on the top of her spine, where the spine meets the neck? The areas where you say she has weight gain can occur with high cortisol levels - cortisol comes from the adrenal glands that sit on top of the kidneys. I've also read that PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) can mimic high cortisol weight gain. PCOS is associated with carbohydrate intolerance. It's possible the South Beach diet isn't restrictive enough for her. She might need Atkins.
