Avatar m tn One thing that pops into mind is diabetes. One symptom is excessive thirst. But a simple test can check for that. Or it could be a habit. My husband drinks a lot of water. I'm not convinced he needs that much because he also urinates very often due to the water intake. But it's become a habit with him. He can't go anywhere without a bottle of water. He actually gets a bit tense. It's best if you get checked first to rule out health issues.

Avatar f tn [5] Women with PCOS who are insulin resistant are at high risk for the development of diabetes in pregnancy, and a possible role for metformin therapy may be the prevention of GDM. In a cohort of 33 women with PCOS taking metformin until delivery, GDM occurred in 3% compared with 23% in 39 women taking no medication.[4,6] However, given the lack of data from well-designed, prospective clinical trials, metformin is currently not indicated for the prevention of GDM.

Avatar m tn In the review I read, 45% of cases were due to tumors, 15% due to elevated intracranial pressure but not a tumor, 12% due to trauma, 11% present from birth, 7% inflammatory, miscellaneous 5% and unknown cause 5%. In this case with a normal MRI, it is important to have a lumbar puncture to rule out increased intracranial pressure and to rule out inflammatory causes. Lots of blood test should help also to rule out inflammatory causes. I have also read cases with a viral cause.

604185 tn?1233960857 I had gestational diabetes with two of my children, but the diet worked for me. I was told that insulin was the only thing they can give you. The reason I asked was my mother is a diabetic and is on glucaphage and the dietition said that those kinds of medicines are not an option when pregnant. If you truly are concerned I would try to speak with a diabetic nurse and she what she says some times there more knowledgeable in those areas than our doctors. Hope this is helpful.

Avatar f tn Which is far more harmful to you and the baby than a drink to test for diabetes that the doctor gives you. Plus this article makes it seem like diabetes is not a threat in pregnancy when it absolutely is. So the drink is harmful but if you have diabetes it's not. Slightly backwards in my opinion. Again ladies, don't believe everything you read on the internet or on these asps.
