Common Questions and Answers about Diabetes and pregnancy guidelines

diabetes

Avatar m tn Hi. Sorry for this issue you have to deal with. Pregnancy is a great thing though so hope you are enjoying it otherwise. Did you have both glucose tests? I triggered a reading in the diabetic range the first 2 hour test. (I ate a sandwich before the test, oops) and then had to do the confirming test of 4 hours glucose test. That was about zero fun, I'll tell you. But with that one, my blood sugar was normal (I fasted properly). You've had both tests and your sugar is still high?
Avatar m tn If your wife was my patient, and if she had any significant risk factors for diabetes, I would check a blood sugar early in pregnancy and then at about 24-28 weeks as you have read. Most of the research done on patients with gestational diabetes show no difference in outcomes for mothers and babies with gdm as compared to mothers with gdm. So IF your wife had GDM it is unlikely that testing a few weeks late is going to effect the outcome of her pregnancy in any significant way.
Avatar f tn m diabetic before pregnancy and on insulin following a diet as well as excercise. I had questioned the doctor about the earliest they would induce she said if I ever got out of control levels she'd rather hospitalized me up to 39 weeks to get sugars in control Rather then a possible baby in nicu for development problems.
Avatar n tn If they refer to web sites such as the ADA [American Diabetes Association] or the Canadian Diabetes Association web site did you know both are sponsored by major drug firms, and there are others including several major hospitals. The wolf is watching the sheep.

Avatar f tn My question is, has anyone out there with Type 1 diabetes tried to lose weight, and if so, what sort of diet did they follow? Also, what has their physician/nutritionist recommended when they experience moderately "low sugar levels" to restore them, if not coca-cola? And finally, has anyone commented on whether or not the cola should be with with or without caffeine? Thank you for any input. She exercises on the treadmill.
5009178 tn?1369953775 How far along were you when you first found out you were pregnant and did you immediately start eating better and following strict guidelines or did you eat normal and if Anyone has children already id like your opinion on dieting and how much it matters during the pregnancy!
Avatar m tn I have type 2 diabetes and my eye site seems to be getting worse I am becoming very near sited My doctor keeps telling me my eye site will get better but they seem to get worse I am taking my meds but not mesuring my sugar so I don't know what my sugar count is as I type.
10485665 tn?1411740029 It varies for everyone so there really is no guideline. It depends on genes, your activity level, the food you eat. For me, I gain little to no weight during pregnancy...It's the year after the baby comes out that I pack on 30lbs from breastfeeding (breastfeeding doesn't always make you lose weight). Talk to your doctor about it, but don't stress. Eat healthy, exercise moderately, but don't worry about the weight. It will come off after baby is born!
Avatar f tn I have gd and this is my second pregnancy and I am on a controlled diet but I am having a csection because I had it with my first.

Avatar f tn well i got digestinal diabetes while pregnant and my question is after i have the baby how do i know if the diabetes goes away do u eat normally like u ate before and check ure sugars to see if your body responds or do u keep yourself on the diet u have been and for how long after, also what could happen if u eat sweets right after delivery (craving cheese cake and icescream for the longest time)???
Avatar f tn Anyone with diabetes and pregnant.?. So I'm on the pump and latter this after noon I realized my sugar was staying elevated. (260) Now I check it it's 396 and this is as high as it's ever been sense being pregnant I'm flipping out because I don't want it to hurt my baby but my bf is saying it's OK cause this is the first time ever being this high. Advice? I'm nervous and scared.
Avatar f tn Haha I hate diabetes and being pregnant. I'm hormonal as is and when my sugar gets a little low I'm a raging witch! It makes me laugh after but at the time everybody's like hey go eat some candy and shush. At least we're healthy for the most part here tho. She's not to big or small fluids good heart rates great. Can't wait till I can get rid of these dang hormones tho.
Avatar f tn Sometimes pregnancy and hormones can make diabetes flare up and throw your sugars off. When you are high the baby is high. Extra careful diet will be required and maybe extra insulin. Lots of people have babies with Type II but it's how they manage the two that makes the difference.
Avatar n tn For some women diabetes during pregnancy is a precursor to type 1 or type 2 diabetes after (either immediately, or in the years following).
159063 tn?1247272817 7 the doctor put him on metformin 500 2 x per day and just recently increased to 1000mg in the AM and 500 at night, I am a nurse and the doc said if blood sugars are still greater then 200 after 2 weeks to increase to 1000mg 2 x per day which we have done, his sugar is still runnign high, 270-310, he has cut out all soda, with the exception of an occasional glass, he drinks mostly water, lots of chicken etc..
1574695 tn?1322590597 I am 5 w & 4 days pg, and my dr said to come off my metformin until I see a diabetes/pregnancy dr, but last year I was pregnant and sadly we lost the baby, that dr said to keep taking my metformin, anyone else getting conflicting info?
Avatar f tn The AACE has responded to the controversy on their page and seems to be taking patient response into account, therefore leaving the door open in this public forum to get patient voices heard and to start a dialogue. And the ATA, while once again publishing this spurious information, has at the same time also published the flyer for their Spring Symposium which will be organized around a discussion of alternates to Synthroid in the treatment of hypothyroidism.
Avatar m tn Hi, every labs range is different, I looked up mine and it said it should be under 5.75 It also depends on your age. From I have been told the younger you are the stricter the guidelines. For my Dad who is 75 the doc told him that as long as he is under 7 that is acceptable My Doc wants me under 5.
