Avatar f tn This was somewhat helpful in that ADA lists foods that are recommended but does not offer a meal plan for weight loss along the lines of the Scarsdale Diet, the Mayo Clinic, etc., which diets eliminate all carbs. Even Dr. Atkins strongly advised against staying on his diet plan long-term for the same reason: no carbs. I visited Weight Watchers and inquired about their plan for diabetics and was told there is an extra cost because their instructors have to take additional training.
Avatar n tn ing actually makes each successive attempt at weight loss more difficult, cuz our bodies hoard the fat/weight to protect against another "famine." Exercise is the weakest link in my overall DM management, so it helps me, too, to encourage you to increase your activity level. We're not physicians here, so our advice is coming only from personal experience and reading. If you like what you'll read here, chat with your doc about whether/how it could apply to your specifics.
Avatar n tn Along with avoiding sugary foods a low to no carb diet plan is recommended for t2 diabetics. Carbs to t2 diabetics are the same as sugar - elevates our glucose [blood sugar] above and beyond acceptable levels. A very good place to look for low carb recipes is the Atkins [diet] web site http://tinyurl.com/atkins-recipes . Replace sugar with artificial sweeteners such as Splenda or Stevia.
Avatar n tn im needing to find a simple diabetic diet plan. the doctor gave me one but it seems really complicated. does anyone know any good sources for diabetic diet plans?
Avatar f tn I was overweight and finally joined a weight loss group (TOPS). I managed to lose about 36 lbs. Having lost the weight I can now manage my diabetes with my diet. Since I now longer take Metformin I am having trouble losing the last 20 lbs I need to lose. Is there a connection between weight loss and taking Metformin. Has anyone else experienced this?
Avatar m tn thanks for giging me answer sorry my question couldnt clear all. i have not been using any medicines to prevent diabetes. i just diet with walking make my sugar control. but last week i had overeating and result was little high my sugar i.e. 166 after lunch. i left eating high (crush diet), so that my sugar level goes down i.e. 112 and 118 randomly. i want to ask that can pre-diabetes reversable and wat is the normal range of sugar level randomly and fasting.
Avatar f tn Can you tell me about its side effects? Recently I went for a checkup and my doctor gave me Metformin for weight loss (It suddently went up to 99 kg though I was at 85 before and was following a strict diet plan). I don't have diabetes and I haven't been diagnosed with PCOS, and I think Metformin is generally used for these two issues. So I'm concened whether I should really be Metformin. Can it mess up my insulin system?
Pig I know they still consider me morbidly obese I think but since diet and exercise have worked before will look into another weight loss system.
Avatar f tn I kept on the very low carb diet, eating mostly proteins - fish fish and more fish I started losing weight really fast. I was originally at 112 - 115 keeping my weight at that by eating a ton on carbs. As soon as I was diagnosed I cut out carbs and now my weight is at 92 - 95 pounds. I am very small boned and when I was younger I weighed between 90 & 95 pounds until I turn 40 something. My morning blood sugar fasting when I was first diagnosed at hardly ever below 135 in the morning.
Avatar f tn My 2 hour GTT came back abnormally high, so I did the 3 hour/4 blood tests GTT last week. My OB said my blood sugar is so high that I will more than likely need insulin. I'm going to see an Endocrynologist this Wednesday. I've been trying to follow a gestaional diabetes diet plan I found online, and since I have been limiting sugar and carbs for the past 6 days, I have lost 6 pounds. My total pregnancy weight gain is now only 11 pounds and I'm 30 weeks 3 days pregnant.
Avatar n tn Welcome 19Peanut76 to the MedHelp Type 2 Diabetes Community! You need to set up a meal plan with your healthcare provider that's achievable for you and includes weight loss as a goal. Business woman1 For example, when a person goes on a low carbohydrate diet they will lose weight very quickly, there will be fat loss and water loss. If you look at the word carbohydrate...the word hydrate is attached to the word. So our scale weights are intimately tied to our carbohydrate consumption. When someone loses 7 lbs in 7 days, it is physiologically impossible for that to be all fat. So how much of that is water, fat, muscle etc..
Avatar n tn last year i was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian disease. i need help in managing my diet plan. i daily do cycling (static) for 10 min. please help me.
Avatar f tn Hello. I go through sort of the same struggle you do. I lost a ton of weight following the "Low GI" diet. Its Low Glycemic Index. The diet itself shouldn't really be called a diet because its really just all of the foods you should be eating anyway...but who am I to say that? The Low GI diet is great for people trying to stay away from getting Diabetes, and for people who have Diabetes. Google the diet to pull up all the foods.
Avatar n tn Hi my mom just heard the news she had diabetes and she has had symptoms of frequent urination, dehydration and headaches, weight loss. The doctor said her glucose level was 13 from the normal level 6. Can her diabetes be cured wth diet, exercise or is it too high to get rid of through a changed diet and exercise?
Avatar f tn Would say low carb diet would give you best prospect for weight loss. Should also allow you to reduce your insulin dose a little. Could refer you to the book 'diabetes solutions' by Dt Richard Bernstein as best source of info for this approach - and for managing diabetes. Please let us know how you go.
Avatar m tn Hi, Even a small amount of weight loss can be helpful so don't give up! Any diet that you can stick to(and there are MANY) is worth a shot. To keep it simple, you can simply plan on reducing your daily calorie intake by between 100-200 calories per day. Exercise regimens have that effect where your body hurts a few days afterwards, but you need to push through, gently.

Avatar f tn Hi there. So, let me ask you this . . . since being diagnosed with prediabetes and losing some weight and changing up how you eat, did your numbers change regarding the pre diabetes diagnosis? I think it is definitely a good goal to get a diet you can maintain without losing weight. You must be extremely thin now! Definitely can understand why you'd like to gain a bit of weight. I found an article that talks about how to gain weight when you have diabetes.
