Since we are talking about coughing. I had a few questions of my own. I have had issues coughing for the past 4-5 years. I caught constantly. Sometimes it makes my headache worse but sometimes I don't have a headache so it doesn't bother me. I do have sinus disease as per my MRI. So that explains the post nasal drip. I always have problems coughing whenever I am near or around water. For example I cough so much in the shower that sometimes it will make me throw up or gag.
As you have had the persistent cough now for 3 weeks or so, I suggest you make an appointment to see your doctor to examine your throat and lungs and do a lung function test. If the doctor feels your cough is as a result of a bacterial infection, he will prescribe an antibiotic for you. Having a cough is the body's natural way of trying to get rid of an irritant, whether this is a virus or a bacterial, dust particles, irritation by smoke and fumes etc.
Hi, How are you? Do you still have mucus in your throat or cough? Chronic cough, one that lasts for more than 3 weeks may be attributed to smoking, certain medications, allergies, asthma or heartburn. Postnasal drip or the mucus that runs down your throat from your nose can be caused by allergies. You may be experiencing this. If you have postnasal drip from allergies, try to avoid the things you are allergic to. This can be dust, smoke, pollen, pets or chemical fumes.
For the past 4 years I have been coughing up clear jelly like Mucus Balls. I have been a smoker for 8 years, and I have Asthma. I wake up in the morning and in the middle of the night coughing up a lot of the little mucus balls. It happens a little bit through out the day. Sometimes they are balls and sometimes they are like a hair, but made of mucus. I am very scared and do not have health insurance. I am 25, and thought I was pretty healthy. Please someone, HELP!
Thank goodness, I'm not going crazy. (yet) I've been coughing pretty consistantly for the last 3 months. It's getting worse, not better. Chest xrays are clear, sinuses feel stuffed. I'm taking advair, abuterol, nasacort, prilosec, prednesone...just got prescribed cough syrup with codeine in it. I'm going for a UGI next week. Is it possible that such a horrible hacking cough with all the mucus could really be "in my head?" This is really affecting my ability to work.
I've had an infection for about 3 weeks now, fever for 2. I'm worried since I already took zpack, amoxicilyn and now am on flagyl and prednisone and it's not clearing up. maybe it could be viral or something else. My nose is really sore and bleeding sometimes and I'm getting clear mucus.

She has extensive thyroid cancer which is resolved thanks to an unsuccessful, therefore partial, thyroid resection, radiation and iodine treatments. After 10 months of living with a treach, she had it removed 3 weeks ago. At first her breathing was better than ever, but now that the treach hole has healed, her breathing is quite compromised. She is fine most of the time, relaxing and doing small tasks. She still has mucus and worries that a plug will block the 30% airway that she has left.
I have had a cough for 3-4 months and i have been coughing up flegm. For about a couple of weeks, i have been having pain in my ribs (right side) so i need to know if I need to get this checked out or it could be something serious and should go to the ER. Thanks.
Hello, I am 32 years old male and have had a cough for a 2-3 years now. I don't know what started it, what changed to start it., or why it happens. I am tired of coughing all the time and am sure the people around me are tired of hearing it. I went to a doctor who tested me or allergies and said I am allergic to nothing. She did a chest xray which came back clear as well. I have constant sinus drainage and my cough usually gets me gasping for breath when I laugh...odd I know.
My brother has an intense cough. He has had it for about 3 weeks and it is not getting any better. The doctor prescribed an inhaler and certain cough medicines but nothing is working. It has gotten to the point where by the end of one of my brother's coughing "attacks" he is in tears and feels as though he is going to be sick. It's the worst in the morning and at night. It is less painful when he is at school in class, but as soon as he goes outside for lunch it gets worse again.
In December I got a very bad cold and I also started having problems with my siatic nerve in my back and had to take advil for about 4-5 weeks before that went away. I have been cold free since about the first of the year now except my coughing bouts have not stopped, I am fine most of the time but all of a sudden I will start coughing. Mostly it starts in the evening, generally after supper but I have also started coughing in the morning or during the day.

“the presence of chronic productive cough for at least 3 consecutive months in 2 consecutive years. With strict adherence to this definition, the pulmonologist is right: you do not have chronic bronchitis. That is not the same as saying that you have no airway disease. You do.
I lost mine at 32 weeks and my water broke at 33 weeks. Have you talked to your Dr? I also was dilated to one cm the day I lost my plug. So I was ordered to he'd rest.
The second time (approx 6 weeks ago) I attended the doctors, a blue inhaler was added for times when the mucus gets particularly bad. The third time I attended (approx 3 weeks ago) I was prescribed Beconase nasal spray to take in conjunction with the inhalers. Despite all of these medications, I still experience symptoms which start as soon as I wake up in a morning.

have had three episodes of coughing up blood in the past 3 weeks or so, two after exercise and once because of an athma attack. I had a chest x-ray after the first two incidents from exercising that showed hyperinflation (despite the fact my peak flow was 530, my best is 550 and my chest was clear). I was told to take a week off of training, and then see if it happened again. I had a bad attack Monday night and coughed up some bloody mucus after two nebulizer treatments.
I went to an ENT doctor and he told me I had Acid Reflux, which is the reason am coughing so much and bringing up mucus. I am on Pantecta now for over three weeks and still coughing.. Is there anything else I can take to stop this coughing.. I am really tired and frustrated.
I was fighting a bad cold all week, developed a bad cough over the past 3 days. Thought it was the cold. But now that all cold symptoms are gone, no mucus, etc., I'm thinking it's reflux again. I've eaten some classic triggers--tomato sauce, garlic, chocolate, etc. The cough is absolutely dry and uncontrollable when I lie down. I never really had a cough when my reflux was bad in the past, I would get the wheezing and throat tightening. Does this mean it's worse?
I was fine with that, I simply assumed it was good for me. But for the last 3 weeks I've been throwing up constantly. The cough is getting better. I just have severe coughing fits where I feel like I cannot breathe and my body just shakes and tenses up uncontrollably. Then I throw up large amounts of food. I thought that as the cough went went away the vomiting would too, but i guess not. this usually happens after I eat food, although I experience no other symptom of acid reflux.
