Common Questions and Answers about Clindamycin and probiotics

I chalked it up to the good (the probiotics) were fighting the evil (whatever was in my system) and awaited the 'end of the war.' Having said that, understand one brand may not be the best choice for all individuals. Some brands can cause more distress and changes in product or dosage may have to be made.
I was healthy before I took the Clindamycin and now I wake up nauseous and yesterday had a huge welt on my right arm and itchy bump on the front of my right ankle as well as off and on rashes that come and go. I would like to know when the Clindamycin and maybe also the steroid cream effects will go away? I have to fight the swollen feet and ankles still and notice they get worse now when sitting for long periods of time. This was not an issue before.
and then u r taking a PPI med to stop acids from being produced , the acids also help break down the foods.... Probiotics r great and will get u back into balance and yes u will get bloated and run for the first 2 weeks possibly, but once u r on track u will be happy u r taking them....I take them and they help me. Give it more time, all the drugs that they use during surgery and give u post op.....ur stomach will be out of whack and may take longer then a week to correct....
I was prescribed Erythromycin and following that Clindamycin. Approximately a week after I stopped the medication I had a sudden and severe onset of diarrhea. I waited several days and when it didn't stop I saw a family M.D. He ordered a stool culture and some additional tests on the stool all which came out negative. Initially he thought it was a result of the antibiotics however with the negative lab results he no longer believes this is the problem and wants me to get a colonoscopy.
I switched it up and got probiotics that require refrigeration. I knew I would end up leaving them out at some point. Anyhow, I left them out for a decent amount of time (over 12 hours). Should I even bother taking them? I have over half a bottle left. Think they are still good? Is there any way of telling by looking (the capsule is clear, so I can view the inside contents)? They appear the same as before.
The CLindamycin caused me constant loose stools. MY doctor re-examined and wanted me to take the antibitotics for an additional 10 days resulting in 20 days of taking this medication. Well that was a month ago.. the cellulitis cleard up nicely but the loose stools have not.. as well as extreme bloating and abdominal pain.. As of today, my doctor said as a result of the clindamycin, I have developed pseudo membraneous colitis. and gave me Flagyl for 10 days. My questions: 1.
org forum mentioned that it might be the main cause because someone there told me she took probiotics pills and it helped his immune system to fight the acne way more effectively. While I dont know if taking probiotics might help my acne problem but I think it's always worth a try AS LONG AS it doesnt give me any nasty side effects. so lets be straight to the point, is there any side effect from consuming probiotics pills?
w3hat should I do 8/18 I was prescribed clindamycin 300 mg for a tooth infection and have had diahrrea ever since I have lost 20 lbs and doctors did blood work stool test and today ct scan nothing can b found what do I do
Alternatively, you can take clindamycin for the bv and drink a boat load of cranberry juice for the UTI and water of course. It will take longer to clear up the UTI but it should work. It did for me in a pinch. It just took a couple of extra days. Of course if you are diabetic you can't.
The dentist, the chemist and my partner all told me not the eat or drink milk products whilst taking the antibiotics. They are Clindamycin AbZ 300 mg. I have spoken to my family in the UK and searched the internet and can nothing about taking milk based products and antibiotics together. Is this a German specialty? Please can you offer some information.
I went to my GP who then prescribed me clindamycin on top of the erythromycin and codeine for pain. When I was only taking erythromycin, my stomach was hardly upset, if at all. Now that I'm taking the clindamycin, my stomach is killing me. There's no diarrhea as of yet, but the amount of stomach cramping I have is insane. It's not abdominal pain, but stomach pain, just below my chest.
I ended up going to an ENT who explained that sinus infections require 14 days of antibiotic minimum when it is that deep seeded. He put me on Clindamycin and it cleared it completely after none of the other things worked from my GP. I think he made me do 21 days because it was so bad. It was sinuses, ears, chest, etc like you. My GP had given me so many WRONG antibiotics, that I was reacting to a bunch of them.
I currently use Levsin SL (hyoscyamine) Zofran, Omeprazole, Phenergan (only when I don't take the Levsin as the two can't mix) as well as fiber, probiotics and multivitamins. I have IBS, Gastritis and GERD - In the past I was put on nortriptyline but was hospitalized with SVT and was weaned off it and put on these. Not had issues since stopping it - to me, It sounds like for you the Levsin is what caused it, especially if it started after you started to use it again.
Can i take clindamycin with my levothyroxin 75mcg . Because i have a sore throat and runny nose ?
Some things which may cause this imbalance to happen are the use of antibiotics and steroids, hormonal and chemical changes (natural or unnatural, such as contraceptives), diabetes and other illnesses that cause us to have a lowered immunity. How you can go about treating your yeast infection is up to you.
I also used NADH for brain fog and others here tried it and it seemed to help them. Same with probiotics, they have helped me immensely..it beats eating all that yogurt :) I had thought this post tx forum (to me it is after tx so as not to blame any one thing) would help people searching for help much as other forum have something similar. We don't know the effects of everything yet. Thank you all for posting, everyone's opinions, experiences are important and respected.
Oh, 1 more thing, about the DIV, I'm thinking maybe that's my issue too, but only in that 1 spot because the treatment for it is hydrocortisone and clindamycin (vaginal). Every time I have a flare up, it takes clindamycin to make it go away. Good luck.
I then went to an oral surgeon and he has put me on Clindamycin. I am on my 5th day of 10. I am just praying this helps, because after 8 weeks I don't know how much longer I can stand this. The odd thing is that about 2 months before all this happened I had a virus and went on an antiobiotic. It was about 6 weeks after this virus that I started noticing the bad sweet smell. My daughter (she's 27) also had this virus about 1 month before me and did not take antibiotic.
I'm allergic to Murpirocin, neosporin, bacitracin, clindamycin, metronidazole all topicals and had a syncope from a tetracycline type drug. My brother is anaphylaxic to penicillin. It sounds like you can tolerate Mupirocin but the topical isn't enough for your tissue infection. Celluitis can be pretty deep in the tissue so if it isn't working either the bacteria are resistant to it or it isn't penetrating the tissue well enough. You could ask to try mupircin oral and see if that works better.
I went to the doctor again she said it was normal coz it was a strong antibiotic and i had to use probiotics. I am takins probiotics 2 tablets per day from 4 days now. The stool is normal now, i do not know if it will continue to be normal after stoping probiotics but i continue to have very strong stomach pains. It is a severe pain and i have nausea.(not pregnant). The pain is so strong after eating and continues for 1 or 2 hours after eating and i do not like to it because i feel ful.
i been to a few different doctors and told them everything and gave them the name of the medication of clindamycin because thats when all these symptoms had started they told me to take probiotics and vitamins. i been taking them every day and nothing has gotten better the doctor seemed to not to believe me about anything or something so i stopped going to the doctor and been living with this problem for a year just trying to ignore it but it has caused me so much anxiety and im very worried.
Group B strep colonization is not a sexually transmitted disease (STD). For the same antibiotics like penicillin and clindamycin are used. Because of possible resistance with clindamycin, vancomycin remains the initial treatment of choice for group B streptococcal infection in patients who are allergic to penicillin. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Judy, pick up some probiotics and give them a try. Antibiotics can knock the good bacteria in your system for a loop and that can cause changes in bowel functions. Try something like Culturelle and finish out the whole pack. Take the probiotics at LEAST 2-3 hours after taking any antibiotics, if you've still taking them.
I took bactrim and after 5 1/2 days had an intense allergic reaction of a burning sensation, needle pricking and numbness. They put me on clindamycin. I continued to have reactions, so guess they couldn't tell if it was the bactrim still in my system or also being allergic to clindamycin. Anyway, I was on some sort of antibiotic for 71/2 to 8 days. It's been 2 weeks since I stopped the 800mg/160mg 2x a day bactrim and the burning sensation is still there but much milder.
I know this is weird, but the taste of my discharge becomes bitter. After treatment of oral clindamycin and diflucan all my symptoms are relieved, sometimes for along time. I had read an article many yrs ago about chronic BV . I was first diagnosed with BV when I was 20, but I had no symptoms. Most of the time, doctors say they don't see any infection, but treat me any ways for BV because it does relieve my symptoms. I have been on on metrogel, 2 times a week, vaginally.
In addition you could try shaving in the direction of hair growth. You could also try OTC ointments containing benzoyl peroxide/ clindamycin and see if these seem to help. If you continue to have issues, I would recommend seeing a dermatologist for systemic medications or interventional/ alternative therapies. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
im very frustrated and angry because idk what to do anymore ive been treated multiple times with flagyl, diflucan, terazol, gyne lotrimin, doxycycling, monistat, clindamycin both cream and antibiotic, have taken all different probiotics, and i can keep going...and no relief whats so ever im loosing it...how long did it take for your discharge to dissapear?
The intestines are filled with good microoogranisms that help to facilitate digestion and keep a balanc between good and bad microorganisms. While taking antibiotics the good ones are detroyed and the digestive tract ends up imbalance. Probiotics will help to restore the levels good ones so that your digestive process will return to normal.
For the last 6 months I have been getting tearing (look like paper cuts) in my vaginal area (1/4 to 1/2 inch long). I get the tears at least once or twice a week and they last from 2-4 days, go away for a few days and then come back. They continue to occur in the same locations; 1. Inside the vaginal lips on the sides almost always in the crease (between the labia minora and majora?) 2. Between the anus and vaginal opening (perineum) 3. Above the clitoris in the "hood" area.
You probably lost a lot of your normal intestinal bacteria and you need to start taking probiotics if you haven't yet. Get one that has 10 billion copies and has at least a couple different bacteria such as a lactobacillus and bifidobacterium sp. You can take these as a daily pill. You can eat a couple of yogurts a day but it may not be enough. Also if you have really bad diarrhea you may want to get tested for Clostridridium difficile.
