Certain antibiotics (amoxicillin and some others Im not quite sure of) given to a patient with mono can cause a rash and fever. Definitely you should see someone ASAP, but this is what happened to me just two weeks ago. Best of luck, I hope you are feeling better soon.
You may also have a sore throat like that if you have mono, but mono is a virus. Most other viruses can cause a sore throat that is not as severe and gargling with warm water with salt and baking soda is most helpful.
I've been off clindamycin for about 3 weeks. I'm not sure if they tested me for mono they just took blood and said it looks fine. And they didn't check my stool because i wasn't having diarrhea. Also there is a new rash on top of the small swollen node i have under my chin and the original neck swollen nodes have stopped getting smaller and are just remaining the same size although greatly reduced from what they were.
Yesterday morning I finished a 10-day dose of clindamycin for a tooth infection and that seems to have done the trick. I had used Zithromax for 5 days a month ago for a sore throat but that didn't affect the dizziness. The allergist's interpretation for this is that either Zithromax was not the right type of antibiotic or the 5-day treatment was not enough. Depending on the result of the CT scan, I might have to continue taking antibiotics.
other background info on me, i got done having mono for a long time this may, and then i had a bacterial infection and i got antibiotics for that-which caused this yeast infection, i hope. Also, i got bit by a deer tick, but i dont think it was on long enough for lyme disease to be a factor. i work outside in the heat for 9 hours a day, and swim as well. I live in a swimsuit on the weekends and i'm always sweaty from exercising-what do you girls think? thanks!
A few days later, other symptoms were appearing so we go back to the Doctor and this time they test him again for Strep Throat and Mono. Both tests were negative. Then the next day, he was in such pain and the fever was higher so we go to another Hospital (Emergency) and this Doctor does more tests (Strep, Mono and I think other tests too).
For the past month, she has also been seeing an ENT for enlarged tonsils. Labs showed no sign of mono, strep, or bacterial infection. After two rounds of prednisone and clindamycin, her tonsils are still touching and she is having trouble swallowing. The ENT is considering removing tonsils along with thyroidectomy. Both Drs. do not know if thyroid and tonsil problems are related. Is surgery the best option? THANK YOU for any input.
plastic surgery in July (breast reduction and tummy tuck; high blood pressure and I am hypoglecemic. My PCP states he heard something in my neck and has ordered a Caritoid Ultrasound but I am concern that this is not my problem and it is something we are missing. I am having a low grade headache;some low grade burred vision; dizziness when turning over in the bed and some facial pain behind my eyes. Please tell me if we should be looking at other things.
A few days later, my tonsils and lymph nodes swelled up. Then, the strep and mono tests came back negative, nothing grew from the culture (probably because I was on antibiotics at the time) my full blood work looked fine and my white blood cell count was normal. She now thought it was bacterial and put me on clindamycin. Soon after finishing the clindamycin treatment (which I developed a skin rash from at the end), my tonsils and lymph nodes swelled again.
Colitis is common after taking Clindamycin, and everything basically started when I got Mono, but then why the change in my period? I have all the early symptoms of Fybroids, Ovarian Cysts, Ovarian Cancer, IBS...and the list goes on. Any ideas? Thanks!!
Also with mono can have sever throat pain, swollen glands (I had mono) and your are so fatigued with mono. As for your other worry, a great one becasue including myself and so many people I know we have all worried about that at one time. So do like i did years ago, get a test. the worry finally stopped.
I had terrible pain and i couldn't even talk nor eat for 3 days, what could have caused this because all my exams for strep, mono, and even gc were negative? They prescribed clindamycin 150mg capsules and the patches didn't disappear until 8 days later.
I noticed my tonsils were swollen much like they were both times before. Once again I was swabbed and tested for strep, along with mono. The strep test was positive again, and I was given Clindamycin four times a day for ten days. I've got three more days left of taking it. I work in Surgery, no one at work has gotten sick, my family, my friends, including my roommate have yet to catch strep.
The swelling increases and decreases, but is always present. Just today I discovered a hard lump at the base of my skull (on the left side). The lump is hard and feels like bone. I'm just wondering what may be the cause of this. I'm in no pain and I feel as though it may not even be an issue at all, so I don't want to rush into a doctor's office with my complaints. Some forums I've read claim that long-term swollen lymph nodes may be caused by some kind of infection, like HIV...
The Doctor also said its a slim chance but yes it could also be another illness that is causing these genital ulcerations. I've done my own little research and found out that Mono and Behcet Disease can cause these problems but thats only to name a few, the Doctor said there is such a long list that I would have to discuss it further with my doctor if they felt this couldn't be herpes. Hope this helps a little.

Okay...so about three months ago I had mono and a throat infection. I was in the hospital and they put me on Clindamycin. I got better, but ever since then my bowel movements haven't been the same. Watery sometimes, constipated other times. Sometimes they are really light in colour, sometimes very dark. Other times, it looks as if I didn't fully digest the food. (Sorry if I'm grossing anyone out) Also, I've been a little bloated off and on since I stopped taking the meds.

Is Zithromax one of these antibiotics and if so, what does that mean? Alternatively, could it help me? The remedies for BV and mono seem completely different.
I started running a fever on Sunday and felt really funny with bad headaches so I called my doc and he told me to go to the ER and he'd phone in orders. I got there, and could barely see or breathe so I made my hubby call my doc and he came up. Ordered a CT and Chest X-Ray (insert anxiety attack here x3) and both were fine, my incision in the belly button was really red around it and my fever spiked so they admitted me and started high dose antibiotics.
They did not work I went to a ENT I was given clindamycin and 100 mg a day fluconazole for 2 week This seem to help a little bit after the 2 weeks i asked for 3 more weeks becuase of insurance reasons.. I could not do anything else I double up on my fluconazole and took 200 mg a day for a week and 100 mg the following week. I stopped all Antibotics. it seems to gotten a little better..
i had a bad reaction to the clindamycin, sever chest and arm pain and a purple rash on my elbows. went back to the hospital where a different doc said i should never have been given that and said i probably have something viral. around this time i started feeling very disoriented when walking around. not dizzy, just disoriented and very fatigued. buggy vision my appetite disappeared and i started having some diarrhea.

I am a 23 year old female. Medical history includes Epstein Barr virus, usual childhood diseases, and former smoker. Earlier this year (approximately May, 2009) I started feeling some changes in the back of my mouth. I noticed that my palatine tonsil on the right side had changed shape, and I was now able to extract either tonsilloliths or sialoliths from it. I began to have chronic sore throats with radiating right ear pain.
5 days before I started Azithromycin for the tooth I was given Clindamycin and I think I had a reaction to it and asked them to change it. I have had that medication before with no problems, but after the second dose this time I got very hot, kept getting hot flashes and a salty tasty in my mouth and a nasal drip.
His ASO titer has been between 800 and 1010 range for the last 2 years (last week's 1000). He has taken a multitude of oral antibiotics --Amoxil 875 Mg 2x day for 14 days, to straight penicillin, Rifampin 300 Mg 2x day for 10 days, Clindamycin. Nothing seems to rid him of these nodules or lower his ASO titer. Overall crummy feeling most of the time. Headaches, leg aches, joint aches, back ache, neck ache. Any suggestions?
Staphylococcus aureus ------ (now - this is the tricky part - S= Sensitive to -- R= Resistent to) Gentamicin = S Levofloxacin = S Nitrofurantoin = S Oxacillin = S Rifampin = S Tetracycline = S Trimet / Sulfa = S Vancomycin = S Clindamycin = R Erythromycin = R Penicillin = R Now, I am completely and utterly confused.
I decided to cut milk out of my diet after that, and since then I have not had the explosive burning. After the Clindamycin dosage was through, I began taking acidophilus (Bio K) once every morning to regain my flora. I hate yogurt so that was not an option for me, the acidophilus has more of the cultures and it is easier for me. I always feel better once I drink it, and I would recommend it for anyone having these problems.
