Celexa and benadryl

Common Questions and Answers about Celexa and benadryl

celexa

My doctor has prescribed my Celexa for panic with agoraphobia and severe anxiety. I'm scared to take the meds because I also have a phobia of medications, fear I will have an allergic reaction and die. Have you heard of anyone being alllergic to celexa?
My doctor just switched me from Celexa to Wellbutron. I was gaining weight and she thought this would help. She told me to stop the celexa and start the other. This has been almost 2 weeks ago and I am going through the most horrible withdrawl symptoms. I don't know how long this is supposed to go on, but I am really getting worried. I am dizzy and feeling like I am going to throw up. I have that "jolt" feeling going through me and I am finding it hard to function.
I really think I need to take something for the everyday anxiety. I did ask on another post about xanax and celexa and they said it was fine. Does anyone know about this combo. If I start the celexa I just want to be sure I can still have the xanax if I get an attack. I'm so afraid to take the celexa because of the side effects. I too paxil a few years ago and go horrible side effects. The worse was the lack of sleep.
Most of the other medication (effexor, Prozac, Zoloft) produce side effects which I did not care for. My doctor and I finally gave Celexa a try. I was taking low dosages (10mg daily) of Celexa and I was doing fine. A few months back my doctor suggested I try Lexapro. I have found that most of the bad side effects of Celexa have been eliminated with this new and so far wonderful medication, I am currently taking 10mg Lexapro daily.
It actually looked like flea bites. But my Doctor changed my meds last week to Celexa, and I am continuing to get these red itchy bumps on my chest, back and neck. There are no blisters. They are just itchy and heck. Could it be all of the different meds. or could it be my stress???
Paresthesia is an unusual but possible side effect of the Serotonin Specific Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs), including Zoloft, Paxil, Prozac, Celexa, and Luvox. It is difficult to predict if the paresthesia will resolve or not. If medical or dermatological causes of the paresthesia have been excluded, your treating physician/psychiatrist may consider treating you with an anti-histaminic medication such as Benadryl, or switch you to a non-SSRI antidepressant such as Wellbutrin or Remeron.
I self-medicated (bad idea) with the celexa, skipping it and doulbing up on dosage, and found a direct correlation with the itch intensity and the celexa. My psychiatrist and I agreed to stop the celexa. In the insuing years, I still have occasional itch episodes, usually during particularly intense scenes in movies, bad dreams, and when I am nervous in front of someone with whom I have unpleasant business to discuss. Could it be that the wellbutrin also plays a role in this?
Panic Attack control - Alprazolam Clonazepam Diazepam - Most effective of the four listed Lorazepam Sleeping Pills - Lunesta - Worked well but diminished quickly Ambien - Sleep walking Trazadone - Akathisia, also affected anxiety Benadryl - Very effective (when I actually take them) Pain Killers (Analgesic, "self medicating") - Hydrocodone Oxycodone Anti-depressants - Lexapro - Currently taking Wellbutrin XL - Currently taking Nortriptyline Celexa Prozac Paxil - Complete nightm
I use liquid dye free benadryl. I have tried celexa, lexapro, zolaft, paxil, Prozac, wellbutrin, and trazadone. They all had side effects and some of them made it worse. I stop taking all of the meds because I found I did not need them all the time just at certain times of the month. The benadryl helps by calming me and it is much safer than any meds. I hope this helps you.
It's been almost a month now I have not taken celexa. I am currently taking klonopin as prescribed to help me with my panic and agoraphobia. It definately does wonders and helps a lot! But these withdrawl symtpoms from the celexa are just too much! I mean they aren't as severe as they were, but I have tingling, numbness throughout my body and rushes of dizziness and nausea is the worst.
Hemoglobin is 9.7 and itching is almosy unbearable...no more restful nights even with Benadryl. One injection of INF now per week, though she did suggest trying 270 mcg, but I proceeded to fall apart. So she suggested a 2 week wait at SOC and adding Celexa, I think it was. Hard to comprehend when you're in meltdown mode. I will follow her advice...I think I need it. It's hard to be objective when you live on your own...no one to tell you when you might be acting a bit weird...
Thank you both for your response. I have two days left until I meet with doctor. I had to switch from my old doctor because he told me "anxiety is just a part of pregnancy and to deal with it and take all the Benadryl I wanted" well Benadryl makes me into a zombie and I didnt like the way he dismissed me so easily so I switched doctors and have had to wait to get in to see the new one.
My primary care doctor prescribed the cymbalta to me! I was in the middle of withdrawing from celexa which was a nightmare in itself it's been almost a month I been off of it! so on a Saturday when my psych wasn't around I was desperate. I went to my primary doctor and that is when he prescribed the cymbalta. I went to my psychiatrist on wednesday and was not having any withdrawal symptoms up until yesterday! Could this be from only being on it for a week and 2 days?
I had the same sexual side effect on celexa (and now zoloft). my psychiatrist recommended taking a benadryl about an hour before sexual activity. he said benadryl basically can stop an SSRI from working for just a few hours--so it's like you're not on it at all,but as soon as the benadrl wears off, you're back to your normal medicated self. i tried it skeptically and found that it worked. i don't know that it works for everyone, but it's worth a try.
I have really bad anxiety and i'm starting celexa tonight for my anxiety/deppresion...I hate feeling drunk. I have a 17 month and i can't be doing anything crazy or stupid. Your opinion means alot to me. All i needed was something to help get to sleep not something to sedat me..lol.. I think I will stick with the celexa and maybe get some tylonal pm..
Hello, I was currently taking celexa, lexapro for about 6 1/2 years. I was diagnosed with minor depression with some gen anxiety. The drug worked GREAT for ,me over the years. I had some side affects but none worth crying over. Recently, I noticed that lexapro was not working as well mostly just around my hormonal month end cycle. My doc said these drugs don't work as well over the years and she recommened I try cymbalta.
I'd have symptoms and maybe every week I'd have a new scary breakout and have to go back on high dose Benadryl. Sometimes the Benadryl has calmed the hives and I've had a few days without taking Benadryl, but still some symptoms like burning skin or fuzzy face, and in any case I've mostly had to stay on high dose Benadryl. I believe this health problem began because our house got too dusty with cat dander and house dust .
Loose stools and vomiting will dehydrate you rapidly. Try benadryl (diphenhydramine) for sleep. Mint / detox teas are pretty good for now. Maybe check out Walmart for Hylands (I think...) restless legs formula......Use hot/warm showers frequently for muscle aches .... heating pads/blankets work well for muscle areas also. Get some movies that you like for sleepless nights and days. And keep posting here for support and "wisdom" .......
I used Klonopin which is a benzo (same family as Xanax) but I swiched to Celexa, which is an anitdepressant and is not addicting. I guess I would ask...did you ever take a benzo and if so did you like it? If so definatly don't take them. Ask your doctor for an anti depressant for anxiety...only problem is they take 7-10 days to work....if you get Celexa or Lexepro. My insurance would not cover Lexipro bc it cost too much.
I had to quit my job and my doctor put me on Lorazepam and Celexa. I was on the meds for three weeks and had side affects worse than the actual panic attacks themselves. The medicine made my mind race so bad and although my body was relaxed, it made me want to jump out the window and run down the street. It was like a full blown panic attack, just without the heart racing.
Lately, I have been feeling irratable and disengaged. My doc wants me to start taking an AD called Celexa (Citalporam). This is my deal: I'm worried about extra side effects. Does anyone else take both? It doesn't seem to be an issue with the Doc's, but then again their view point is that if there's a problem, lets just try something else. I don't want extra drugs screwing with me! Maybe I should stop the Xanax? Soon I may have to start on the Procrit...How much can a lab rat take?
I am 37 year old female. I went to the hospital early Saturday morning because when I went to be and laid down I couldn't breathe. I felt like my throat was swelling shut. At the ER they put me on oxygen, drew normal labs, and did a chest x-ray; that was it! I did refuse the blood gas, I used to work in the lab and trained techs to do gases, and this isn't the best hospital to have an abg done. When the Dr. heard I refused the gas he came in and said I had an anxiety attack!
I have not slept more than 2 hours each night for the past 5 nights and am so wired, shaky, and sick (despite trying benadryl, unisom, and phenergan on different nights). I am taking Zofran during the day for awful morning sickness and phenergan at night. I am also on 20 mg of Celexa for the anxiety/panic. My heart rate was over 100 for three days, but taking the Zofran has slowed it down. I just feel awful and don't think I can't take any more of this.
I have tried paxil,Prozac, zoloft, celexa, lexapro, and trazadone which none of these helped. Some of them made it worse. I found that dye free liquid benadryl works wonders on my anxiety. It is a lot safe than any meds a doctor will give you. I hope this Helsinki someone. If someone tries it I would like to know if it helps you too. If any one has any more questions about this feel free to ask me.
Your doctor is the best person to listen to at times like this. Everyone seems to have their own idea of the perfect remedy, but your doctor (if he/she is good) will probably start you on a low dose of something and then do some blood work to assume the levels of the drugs in your system. With that, he/she probably would suggest you see a therapist to help you deal with anxiety. I would not start taking benedryl... it is for allergies.
I have tried paxil, celexa,Prozac, zoloft, lexapro, trazadone and they either cause side effects or made it worse. I use dye free liquid benadryl for my anxiety and it works wonders for me. It is a lot safer then any meds I have tried. It calms me so much. Hope this helps.
This drug usually doesn't help you fall asleep, though, it makes you stay asleep. To fall asleep I take two Benadryl tablets (recommended by my therapist) and it really helps me to fall asleep. The combination of the two drugs have worked well for me. I'd recommend making an appointment with your doctor to see what he / she recommends. There are several prescription sleep aids that you can try.
I am not sure which ones are recommended for pregnancy because they took me off of celexa when I was expecting and did not replace it with a different one. Maybe the ob and your doctor prescribing the antidepressant can put their heads together and come up with a better plan for you. I was worried about what I had to take when I was pregnant but my daughter is now seven months old and healthy as can be. Good luck to you and your baby.
I finally had to go behind my doc's back and get steroids to treat the rash because I was in terrible shape. All he offered was Benadryl. I was way beyond Benadryl. I just thought it was so odd that the palms of my hands were the main source of the rash. It was like some awful god was torturing me.
Before I was diagnosed with BP Disorder, I was on Celexa and Neurontin consistently, and we tried Buspar and Klonopin.. The Buspar made me suicidal and the Klonopin calmed me down, but made the depressive episodes worse. We just recently upped the Lamictal by 25mgs (from 200mgs- 225mgs) and it seems to help the depressive episodes, but doesn't do much for the agitated mania. It has always helped the rapid cycling; it's been the only medication that has..
