Brown discharge before period old blood

Common Questions and Answers about Brown discharge before period old blood

Avatar_n_tn Ever since than i have been having brown discharge before my period. Somtimes it it very lite and sometimes it can be very dark. When i do have my period it only lasts for a couple days. And after that i am normal until about five days before my period. Is there somthing wrong with me?
Avatar_f_tn Yes it's normal. Brown <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>blood</span> in your discharge is <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>old</span> <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>blood</span>...which is pretty common to have just before starting your period...getting rid of what was left in there before your new period begins.
Avatar_n_tn I am 22 and I have been on the pill for about 2 1/2 years now... my period is very regular and I have pretty much never had spotting. For the first time today I have a rather thick brown discharge that I've never seen. I'm expecting my period in 3 days or so and it is just worrying me, I dont know if i can wait 3 more days to make sure i'm not pregnant. I have occasionally gotten brown discharge after my period but never before...
Avatar_n_tn I've read that a few days before your period its normal to have some brown discharge (<span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>old</span> <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>blood</span>)- and thats what it looks like to me, but is it normal this far before having your period?? Is there something else this can be attributed to?? I am sexually active and I did miss a pill or 2 this month (which I took later or the next day to catch up). Is there a way to tell this discharge apart from implantation bleeding (just in case!!
Avatar_f_tn Thats very normal to have brown discharge right before, and right after. Its <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>old</span> <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>blood</span>. Sometimes youll get it, sometimes you wont.
Avatar_f_tn brown discharge before your period is veryyy normal it is the <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>old</span> <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>blood</span> from your last period making its way out before your current one no worries
Avatar_f_tn I'm 17 years old and I've been on birth control for a little more than a year and a half. I've had brown discharge before but not the week before my period, but during my ovulation. I'm a little confused as to what this means because it's never happened to me before and if I should go see a doctor about it. As of right now, it seems that the discharge is slowing or stopping I can't figure out which one at this point in time.
Avatar_f_tn Unlikely. Brown discharge is <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>old</span> <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>blood</span> and often will precede or follow a period. There are a lot of things that can cause problems conceiving. Are you ovulating, do you have a proper luteal phase length, age can play a factor, certain hormone levels in your body. Have you seen a doctor?
1978961_tn?1378159311 So i was wondering yes i know brown discharge can happen before your period and after as your body gets rid of <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>old</span> <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>blood</span>. But for me ive never had brown discharge before my period . So 9 days before im suppose to start my period i went to wipe and realized it was brownish. so i decided to put a tampon in. and 3 hrs later i took it out. It was brown. Weird for me since this hasnt happened before. I want to know is this a symptom of pregnancy?
Avatar_f_tn Brown discharge is <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>old</span> <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>blood</span> which most women get before and just after a period is finishing, it is nothing to worry about and i really don't think you are pregnant.
Avatar_n_tn so do u think its normal to have brown discharge about 10 days before period for only 1-2 days? and i dont have my period yet dont know whats wrong cant ask anyone please anyone help....
Avatar_n_tn Every once in awhile, right before my period, I will have a dark brown dishcharge when I wipe after I go pee. It is also there after my period as well. It doesn't hurt or itch but it does smell a little bit. I thought it was just "old" blood, but I'm not so sure because of the way it smells. Any suggestions on what it might be?
Avatar_f_tn Well, Could you possibly have been pregnant and having a chemical (which means super early) miscarriage?? Brown discharge is usually <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>old</span> <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>blood</span>. The chunks are odd too. Can you go to your doctor about this dear? That might be the best thing at this point. Especially if this continues. Does it itch at all?
Avatar_n_tn I saw another post about this but it does not answer my question as my situation is a bit different. The past couple months I noticed a brown discharge after my period. It happens 1-2 days after my period. I think I've had some light brownish before, but this is different. It's darker and it smells bad. But then it goes away. Is it something to worry about? I don't have any symptoms of infection. My periods haven't changed.
Avatar_f_tn well brown discharge is <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>old</span> <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>blood</span>, so maybe your period is tapering off, usually when your pregnant and you miscarry especially around when your period is due its usually like your normal period, was your period late at all ?
Avatar_n_tn I'm in the same vote at the moment was just wondering what yours turned out to be? It's about a week before my period and a week ago I had a brown lite discharge for 5 days it's finished now but I'm still concerned. Iv been on the same pill for 4 years and never bad anything like this I'm not stressed or have any change to my diet, it's probably nothing but just a bit concerned any help would be great.
Avatar_n_tn Wait a week between sets of tests as you're not likely to get different results within a few days. Brown <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>blood</span> is just <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>old</span> <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>blood</span>, however, <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>blood</span> that's been up there a little longer (remember how blood is blue and changes color in response to exposure to oxygen?). If it was like a normal period aside from that and not just spotting, most likely you have no possible pregnancy to worry about.
Avatar_f_tn My 17 year old daughter is not sexually active (I'm positive) and has a medium amount of dark brown discharge (enough for a pad larger than a pantie liner) and it is one week before her period is due. The discharge is thicker in some spots and dryish, like stool, but is definitely coming from the vaginal area. It does not look or smell the same as stool or her period, so we know it is not either of those two options. Please let us know what this could be??
Avatar_f_tn Im 21 years old and i just had my period a week ago and now I got home from the gym and I was bleeding brown <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>blood</span>. Thats never happened to me before. What does this mean? Should i be worried?
Avatar_f_tn well its hard to say brown <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>blood</span> is <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>old</span> <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>blood</span> dark red is usual normal for a period so you might be just having a lite period or it might be a sign a pregnancy since your period is usual you should take a pregnancy test bleeding won't effect the results
Avatar_n_tn I have always had the brown discharge before my period then a day after its usually red blood and heavy. Well I have the flu and running high temp and today's my second day and I'm starting to have some bleeding seems the more I walk around the more it comes but with the flu u jus feel like Layin around. But I do have the red bleeding now do I have a reason to be worried?
Avatar_f_tn Haha calm down.every girl has trhe same question. it's funny because you always feel awkward asking someone.but I used to get the after my period.take a p.
Avatar_f_tn Hi, The brown <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>blood</span>/discharge is completely normal and usually happens at the beginning or end of your period. It's the body cleaning out the old blood and you really can't stop it from happening. I've also read numerous posts and agree myself, that it does seem to have more of a bad odor to it.
Avatar_f_tn It could also mean that for whatever reason during your last menses the entire uterine lining failed to make a timely exit. This brown vaginal <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>blood</span> with discharge can also be due to your <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>old</span> <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>blood</span> retained after periods. Other causes could be polycystic ovarian syndrome, diseases of pituitary gland, hormonal imbalance of estrogen and progesterone and uterine abnormalities like fibroid and cervical dysplasia.
Avatar_n_tn that is what happens be for and after you have your baby and your period i had that happen to me and when i went to the doctor they said that it was <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>old</span> <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>blood</span> that was from my period but if that still happens go to the doctor and see what they tell you tell them that you have that problem and take a pg test to see if you are pleas let me now how it go"s k.
Avatar_f_tn Brown discharge can happen just before or just after a period. Brown <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>blood</span> is <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>old</span> blood, and is just your body's wayof flushing out what was left from the previous period. If in about 3-5 days your period hasn't shown, then it can't hurt to take a pregnancy test to be on the safe side.
Avatar_f_tn Could just be that you had a very light period this month. If you are not on BC, take a pregnancy test! Brown discharge is just <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>old</span> <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>blood</span>, and it is sometimes seen after becoming pregnant.
