Avatar f tn Xanax, on the other hand, lowers my mood and has some serious cognitive side-effects plus a severe withdrawal that can be very frightening, but it helped me through a massive breakdown. For others, Ativan can be very effective since brain chemistry differs between people. Both can have serious withdrawals, but generally xanax can cause a greater level of impairment and more severe withdrawal (both can be very dangerous to go off of).
Avatar m tn Ive been taking xanax for two months now. And he wants me to take lorazepam 1mg intead of the xanax. Will I get withdrawal symptoms of the xanax? Thanx....
Avatar m tn Is it possible to have any withdrawal symptoms from taking Ativan? I am determined to find something like herbal supplements to help me with the anxiety. Please help me. Thank you.
Avatar m tn If you are 72 hours in already, I would say just to keep going, I would get a little bit of withdrawal effect when stopping the Ativan, but it didn't last long due to being on it such short periods of time (which is what is ultimately meant for), but they were nothing too bad, mostly just anxiety and having a hard time with sleep due to anxiety. You weren't taking a very high dose, and not very often, but every drug effects every person differently.
Avatar m tn Alcohol will absolutely intensify the withdrawal symptoms of ativan since alcohol acts on the same receptors in the brain as ativan. It is true that these receptors are sensitive and vulnerable from the ativan withdrawal, so this explains why you may notice your withdrawal symptoms worsen when consuming alcohol. It is a good idea stay away from alcohol while withdrawing. I would not recommend suddenly discontinuing the atarax without first discussing your questions with your doctor.
Avatar n tn How long were you on it? Tapering slowly will minimize the withdrawal effects and make them MUCH more manageable. Why not go back to your doctor and discuss your issues the medication?
Avatar n tn I've been taking Klonopin, but only for 7 months. I did not have any problem stopping it, but that may be just because I'd only taken it for a short time. I tapered off of it just in case there would be side effects. I think Klonopin is similar to Ativan, which I was on for about 4 years before and I had a hard time getting off of that... I had to taper off very slowly and by reducing the dosage by 1/4 each step. I would get very agitated and extremely nervous.
Avatar f tn but when I woke up today, the numb feeling/tingling has returned (it seems happen when the ativan wears off). Is it possible to have withdrawal symptoms after having taken celexa for only 2 weeks?! Any insight would be appreciated!
Avatar n tn It would be doubtful that cymbalts for a month would cause any probs...ativan however could be..i took cymbalta for 2 months and had bad side effects so I nquit it takes a month or more for the drug to really take eaffect..ativan is very addictive however//a month is not that long to have wds from it but we r all different..so it is probably the ativan//maybe a combo..but if that is all and only for 30 days..it should not take long to feel better...
Avatar m tn I would agree that you are likely not experiencing withdrawal symptoms from stopping your Ativan (lorazepam). Generally, if you've been taking lorazepam for a long time (usually ten days or more) there could be withdrawal symptoms after stopping lorazepam. The onset of withdrawal symptoms would usually start on the first day and last for 5- 7 days. Lorazepam is used to treat anxiety, and so by taking lorazepam this may reduce your daytime symptoms of anxiety.
Avatar f tn I am sorry that you are having a rough time with these medications. Has your doctor been switching you on and off these different meds? Just don't do any of this on your own. There are withdrawal effects that people can definitely feel when coming off of these types of medications.
Avatar m tn I have been prescribed Ativan by my family doctor for about four years now for anxiety with the past year being on 6 mg per day with renewals every 3 months. After finishing a project and being out of work I decided to go down to 4 mg per day due to less stress which my doctor supported. When I went back for my renewal 3 months later my Dr said he doesn't prescribe Ativan anymore.
Avatar f tn s just that I have heard of people who have experienced withdrawal symptoms after taking very low doses of ativan for a very short time. To be honest, even if I am not the addictive kind, right now with all I've been through lately I am unsure as to how my body (nervous system mainly) might react and honestly I wouldn't want to add to my already existing problems.
Avatar f tn Hi,Been on ativan for several months, not doing well on it,so my dr. told me i could take ativan one day and klonopin the next day.....
Avatar f tn You were prescribed a long acting, lower potency benzo, and a short acting, high potency benzo at the same time, both for an "as needed basis"? How often did you take each type? Was the idea that a long stressful day required a Klonopin, and a sudden attack that needs immediate results required Ativan? How long have you been completely off of the Valium (and benzo's altogether)?
Avatar n tn I have been on Ativan reguarly for about three months. Taking about 5-6mg a day. My family Dr. and I have dscussed getting me off the ativan for my aniexety. So started decresing the dose to 21mg a week then 14mg which I am at right now. About a month and a half ago I had a seizure at work and again last night. Now both of these times I had stopped taking the ativan for three days because I was drinking on the weekend. Are the seizures from tha?.
630798 tn?1222313714 At least one brand of bupropion (Zyban) is used to help people stop smoking by reducing cravings and other withdrawal effects. Ativan is in a group of drugs called benzodiazepines (ben-zoe-dye-AZE-eh-peens). It affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause anxiety. Ativan is used to treat anxiety disorders.
Avatar m tn Please be sure not to make any changes in the medication dose without your psychiatrist's express permission and supervision. The side effects you are describing can occur as an adverse reaction to Lamictal but it also could be a matter of interactions with the other medications. What might be going on could have a variety of causes. Its also important to think whether it has helped you or not.
Avatar f tn When I came off of it after around 3-4 months, I did exeperience some withdrawal effects, but as Michael said, I did it under the supervision of my doc. If you have concerns, ensure you are constantly expressing them to him/her. Sometimes going slower can help. Please keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Thank you for taking the time to answer. I have tried Buspar, and that caused insomnia even after 3 weeks. Prozac was started at 2.5 mg and still made the anxiety worse and caused insomnia. Lexapro was also tried with no luck and I'm still feeling the withdrawal effects from it. I feel like I'm worse than before I tried the SSRI's.
Avatar f tn I also worried about Ativan withdrawal, side effects, or interactions on all these meds together. Any comments or advice will be accepted. I'm experiencing rebound insomina, and mild to moderate shakiness in hands, cold sweat, and tinnitus.
Avatar f tn I came off xanax and switched for Ativan. I was also taking Paxil. Then I was put on Klonopin with the ativan and trazodone for the sleeping problems. For me it worked very well. I came off the ativan and am now on Trazodone, Klonopin, Paxil and Inderal. Now I use to fall asleep within ten minutes of taking them. Then it didnt seem to work as well at all.
Avatar f tn I definately agree that because the prozac was too high for me,the ativan effects were amplified. I almost wish i started on the 10mg but I took prozac years ago and never had a problem and was actually on a much higher dose. Just strange how the body works, isn't it?
Avatar m tn I was prescribed paxil and ativan originally. I tried the paxil for one day and did not like the side effects it was giving me. So I went to counseling to try and get over this without taking medications. Well a couple of weekends ago I had a really bad weekend. I went to my doctor because I was having abdominal pains and was thinking it was something serious (which is what my anxiety problem is: health concerns).
