Aspirin or ibuprofen for swelling

Common Questions and Answers about Aspirin or ibuprofen for swelling

ibuprofen

Avatar f tn Have you been using aspirin for the past four years? If you have been taking the medication, its unlikely that you may develop an allergic reaction now. In general, reactions to aspirin are common. If you have an aspirin allergy or sensitivity, you may also have a reaction to other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), including ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others) and naproxen (Aleve, others).
Avatar f tn Hi, Yes, some people might develop allergic reactions in the form of facial swelling, hives, asthma, breathing difficulty, shock etc with use of ibuprofen. Most commonly there is aspirin allergy noticed in coincidence with allergy to ibuprofen. Asprin belongs to salicylate group while ibuprofen belongs to NSAID’s group. It does not mean that allergy will occur to every compound of that group.
Avatar m tn Please do not ignore it and consult an orthopedic specialist. Rest, application of ice, and anti-inflammatory medicines such as aspirin, naproxen, ibuprofen may help. However without examination of your shoulder, it is difficult to comment. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
1565336 tn?1336228387 For painful thyroiditis caused by inflammation, aspirin or ibuprofen may work. However such drugs should not be used if swelling or pain caused by bleeding or patient has blood coagulating disorders.
Avatar n tn I'm a healthy and active male 52 years old, biking or hiking on a daily basis. Had a lateral release (-10 to +80), partial medial meniscectomy and shaved cartilage on my knee 2 weeks ago. Saw physician 1 week after surgery He exasperated swelling at lateral release incision with no luck in reducing the swelling, he said to keep compress on it most of the time.
Avatar m tn massaging the area ,stretching, a heating pad ,an ibuprofen..never aspirin for a child under 12 year old .Any other symptoms like swelling , tenderness its good to get it checked out ..
Avatar f tn No Advil or anything with ibuprofen. Tylenol if necessary. My Dr says ibuprofen and Aspirin can cause miscarriages and some birth defects.
Avatar f tn With a warm feeling and little burning from Continuous scratching with a chronic itch,. The swelling last about four or five days. These bumps are appearing once or twice at a time. & sometimes there are like 8 bumps all in that one large swelling. Anyways once the swelling is gone. That bump will flatten then turn black (leaving a ugly black scar). But the itch will still be there and lasted for about week ugh. I have like 12 of those ridiculous flat black itches bump on my whole left arm.
1654058 tn?1407159066 Karen, Your platelets are already low, and NSAIDs can increase the risk for bleeding; imho, acetaminophen over the ibuprofen, hands down. With low platelets from tx and a compromised liver and kidney system, any of the NSAIDs are contra-indicated for you (includes Motrin, Advil, Aleve). Tylenol is not to be taken indiscriminately either, though. With cirrhosis, no more than 2000 mg per day max (that means no more than 4 Extra Strength Tylenol in any 24 hour period).
Avatar f tn Two completely different compounds. Tylenol, or acetaminophen has been deemed safe during pregnancy, ibuprofen, or Advil has NOT. As for aspirin, that's correct, it's a blood thinner.
Avatar f tn Hi Worried Mon My understanding is that those of us with cirrhosis can't take aspirin or NSAID's such as Aspirin, Advil or Aleve due to our increased risk of bleeding out.I definitely recommend you ask your liver specialist if they think you can. For me I doubt I can especially as I have had esophageal varicies that I had to have banded. I have been advised specifically to only take Tylenol in limited amounts for pain management and nothing else. http://www.cpmc.
Avatar m tn Neither ibuprofen or aspirin is known to interact with Nebivolol. You can try taking them apart to minimize any ill effects.
Avatar f tn Hi, the condition strongly suggests angioedema which is due to hypersensitivity reaction (type 1). Drugs like amoxicillin, certain painkillers like aspirin, ibuprofen, certain garments, environmental allergen and certain food (fish, mushroom, peanuts, soy etc) can cause such reaction. In your case, the allergic reactions seems to be secondary to ibuprofen and you should avoid further exposure.
460830 tn?1347219306 I did finally remember to mention this to my doctor, who told me not to take aspirin or ibuprofen. He said for me to take Tylenol or Arthritis-strength Tylenol, and it was ok to take the fish oil. (Right now, I still have a small spot on my forearm - it's ALWAYS in the same place! Maybe a weak blood vessel there?
Avatar m tn So far in my experience, Deramax has been the best non-steroidal anti-inflammatory for pain in dogs - particularly for arthritis pain. Rimadyl is a close second and fairly cheap since it's been on the market for years. What kind of pain is your dog experiencing?
543518 tn?1245322027 This is what Dr. D. replied to a similar question on the expert forum "Tylenol, contrary to popular belief is OK to take if you have HCV, just no more than 4-6 per day. Ibuprofen is also good if your stomach is OK with it and you take it with food. Stronger stuff like opiates are also OK if necessary, but easy to become addicted to if you are not careful. DTD" BTW, codeine is an opiate... Codeine is usually prescribed together with either paracetamol or ibuprofen.
Avatar n tn In a quick response to grab the bleach bottle spilling out on the kitchen drug, I punched my chest (about an inch under my collar bone area) to the corner of the sink cabinet door. I felt the pain at that time but as the day went on I felt ok. But the next day I felt chest pain, noticed a reason size of bruise, it hurts when I talk, move my right arm, especially when I sneeze.
Avatar n tn Any cold medication or decongestants containing pseudoephedrine or other decongestants should be avoided unless your doctor has given permission. Tylenol for headache or pain - not for fever - can be taken not to exceed 1800mg in 24 hrs. Consult with your surgeons office for additional screens.
Avatar f tn I would suggest switching the ibuprofen out for acetaminophen and asking the doctor about whether the aspirin in combination with the HCV drugs might pose any additional threat or whether you just have the same platelets issue as everyone else on tx. You can also ask the doctor about what level of platelet drop will trigger the use of a drug to stimulate production of more platelets.  Congratulations on your progress in tx – seven weeks is a great accomplishment!
Avatar f tn This will help drain fluid and reduce swelling around the wrist. You can take Ibuprofen ,Naproxen , Acetaminophen or Aspirin after consulting your doctor to releive the pain.
Avatar n tn Has anyone noticed any difference in blood sugar numbers while regularly taking Ibuprofen, or other NSAIDS? I've had some health anxiety, and stopped taking ibuprofen in fear of kidney issues. But I notice my post dinner readings have been worse. I was only taking about 600mg before bed daily. Would that still effect blood sugar by dinner time the next day? Glad I'm off the pills. Just scared will affect BS control.
Avatar f tn I always used ibuprofen prior to getting pregnant because Tylenol wasn't strong enough. However 2 rounds of 1000mg seems to get the job done. Haven't taken me than that in a day.
10293280 tn?1411433212 Yeah aspirin is a blood thinner and I know you can't take it or Ibuprofen because it can cause miscarriage and if you are in the later part of pregnancy it can close the babies heart
