Common Questions and Answers about Ibuprofen and aspirin

ibuprofen

Avatar m tn My vet used to recommend it for his arthritic dog patients until one strange case happened. After the first dose, the dog became sick and started vomiting blood, and by the time the owners got him back to the vet the dog died. The aspirin literally ate a hole right through the stomach. I've used tylenol on my dogs (per vet instructions) in the past for early onset hip dysplasia, but found it not all that effective.
Avatar f tn Tylenol that has no aspirin
Avatar f tn Can Ibuprofen cause dizziness, ear pain, stuffiness, and feelings of passing out if taken several times a week?
Avatar f tn The primary over-the-counter painkillers contain acetaminophen, ibuprofen or aspirin. All three of these have some impact on the liver, and can cause liver damage when taken in excess. While occasional, restricted use may be safe for those with Hepatitis C, a doctor will choose the drug based on which is least likely to adversely affect you. 1. Acetaminophen – (Tylenol, Anacin 3, Panadol, Paracetamol and others) is a common, mild to moderate pain reliever and fever reducer.
Avatar f tn As for the article referenced above, it's talking about long term- 28+ days use of tylenol. If your using it for the occasional headache/ minor ache then you and your fetus should be fine. Also after 14weeks of pregnancy most of the major development is complete.
Avatar n tn I guess Vicoprofen is Ibuprofen? If so, NO! Don't give your dog Ibuprofen. It is toxic for dogs. Aspirin is safer, but only for very short periods, as it can have side effects. You need to get a veterinary pain killer, and if you are unsure as to the cause of your dog's pain, get that checked out so your dog can get the most suitable treatment for whatever's wrong.
4295567 tn?1352353163 Ibuprofen and Aspirin are both NSAIDS. NSAIDS can act as mild blood thinners, cause problems with the lining of the stomach, and are contraindicated in persons with renal insufficiency. Also the arginine component of the pain med can also potentiate the blood thinning action of the ibuprofen. But only your doctor knows your full health history and can determine what medications are best.
460830 tn?1347219306 t take aspirin and ibuprofen at the same time - I alternate between aspirin, ibuprofen and acetamenophen (Sp?), so I won't be taking too much of either. But I do take fish oil and flaxseed oil caps every day. I had not taken aspirin nor ibuprofen since posting this, but a few days ago I took a single dose of aspirin, for the first time since then. But I noticed yesterday I had the SAME bleeding, in the SAME PLACE! I wonder what's going on?
Avatar f tn I'm 14 wks pregnant and because of a stroke I had 4 years ago my doctor has put me on low dose aspirin. I guess I'm nervous that I will take it and have an allergic reaction even though I'm not allergic to anything else. Is anyone allergic to asa and if I have had no indication what are my Chances of being allergic?
Avatar f tn Ibuprofen doesn't have aspirin in it, its just the same class of meds. They are NSAIDs.... But Tylenol is the only thing you can take.
Avatar m tn Foundation for IgA Nephropathy: There is one specific drug interaction that needs to be considered. Fish oil may enhance anti-platelet action of Aspirin and other NSAID's ( COX-1 type, Ibuprofen, others). Therefore, use of fish oil together with aspirin (especially daily low dose as used to prevent strokes and heart attacks) may be harmful.
Avatar n tn Has anyone noticed any difference in blood sugar numbers while regularly taking Ibuprofen, or other NSAIDS? I've had some health anxiety, and stopped taking ibuprofen in fear of kidney issues. But I notice my post dinner readings have been worse. I was only taking about 600mg before bed daily. Would that still effect blood sugar by dinner time the next day? Glad I'm off the pills. Just scared will affect BS control.
Avatar m tn Dear Doctor, My dad was diagnosed with Heart Failure and he normally takes low dosage aspirin as part of his medication arsenal, however he also suffers from chronic back pain and the doctor told him to stop taking ibuprofen for it so now he takes more aspirin and some paracetamol for the pain. I've read that too much aspirin can be detrimental for Heat Failure patients, so my question is how much aspirin is safe for him to take? and which other painkillers could he take as an alternative?
655875 tn?1295695107 I will try and cut back on the daily ibuprofen/aspirin and use the ice packs a little longer. The self-hypnosis looks interesting and is something I'm going to look into. I'm trying to find the underlying cause of these headaches and try to avoid the triggers before the headaches happen. I'm glad to hear that my Maxalt usage is most likely not the cause for the daily headaches and it works extremely well as a last resort.
Avatar m tn Is she an over-eater or an under-eater? Aspirin, ibuprofen, alchohol are very hard on the lining of the esophagus and stomach. More so if there is not enough food to absorb it.
Avatar f tn I agree...no ibuprofen. I am allergic to paracetamol and doctor prescribed codin. Which is only ok at the begging of pregnancy. But it made me sick.
Avatar f tn I've been taking Rebif since my Dx in March with no problems until last night! I took aspirin before my shot instead of my usual ibuprofen and have never felt so horrible. When they say "fllu-like" symptoms that's the understatement of the millenium!!! I shivered so hard I thought I was going to crack my teeth. I could barely hold a cup of water from the shivering and shaking to take some ibuprofen.
Avatar m tn iam Allergic to Aspirin i cant take anything with Aspirin in it and Toradol do have Aspirin in it. in other words i cant take any anti- inflammatory pain medicine.thanks for the information. it helped.
963889 tn?1359677334 My girlfriend had an open biopsy on her kidneys and it showed ibuprofen caused the damage. Her doctor in Florida did some research on Ibuprofen and then did a report for the AMA. Ibruprofen (advil and etc) is the number one cause of kidney failure of over the counter products in the Nation.
Avatar f tn i am currently 8 wks and 3 days pregnant and have had a really bad wisdom toothache! I just couldnt take the pain anymore and took a ibuprofen 800mg without even thinking about it! Now im freaking out :/ will it harm my baby since its in its development stage? I really hope not !
Avatar f tn Hi, Yes, some people might develop allergic reactions in the form of facial swelling, hives, asthma, breathing difficulty, shock etc with use of ibuprofen. Most commonly there is aspirin allergy noticed in coincidence with allergy to ibuprofen. Asprin belongs to salicylate group while ibuprofen belongs to NSAID’s group. It does not mean that allergy will occur to every compound of that group.
Avatar f tn [28] However, paracetamol does not help reduce inflammation, while aspirin does.[31] Compared to ibuprofen—whose side effects may include diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal pain—paracetamol has fewer adverse gastrointestinal effects.[32] Paracetamol is generally believed to be safe for use in pregnancy[33] as it does not affect the closure of the fetal ductus arteriosus as NSAIDs can.
Avatar n tn In addition, because aspirin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), it should not be taken with other NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen or naproxen. And because it can thin the blood, avoid taking aspirin with anti-clotting medications, such as Coumadin (warfarin) or Plavix (clopidogrel), unless advised to do so by your doctor. The bottom line here is that if you’re healthy you shouldn’t take aspirin without a cardiovascular risk assessment by your doctor.
543518 tn?1245322027 Tylenol is very helpful against fever, ibuprofen is ver helpful against infammation, eg of the ankles. Aspirin and ibuprofen increase the risk of severe bleeding, especially if one has low platelets. All these substances should be taken with care. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cKzJOmVhjs Fore migraine there are much better specialised drugs, the triptanes. Migraine is not simple headache. You really should ask a neurologist for help.
Avatar n tn If a person has chest pains, they should be given aspirin instead of ibuprofen. Ibuprofen is not good for the heart. Chewable aspirin is the best so that it gets in the system faster. When a heart reaches 200 beats per minute, it simply shakes. An irregular heart beat is not good as it can cause blood clots which can lead to heart attacks and strokes. If she continues to have an irregular heartbeat, she should be taking an aspirin daily.
Avatar f tn There's no point in me even taking Tylenol it never gets rid of my headache I take 1 200 milligram ibuprofen and if that doesn't work I take one more and I do not exceed 400 milligrams in a 24 hour period
2063887 tn?1337829746 I haven't seen that listed either. I haven't been doing anything different as far as food or aspirin, ibuprofen etc. I thought I would mention it to the nurse when I go in for my next infusion and see what she says.
