Common Questions and Answers about Anorexia in the media

anorexia

Avatar f tn Many people with anorexia nervosa, due to trauma in their pasts, want to lose weight for the complete opposite reason, to look sexually unattractive. In my own case, because of a lifetime of being raped and abused, I wanted to become emaciated so that men would find me unattractive and would be sexually repulsed by me, so that they would leave me alone. I hope that by losing weight the abuse might stop.
5627628 tn?1400006216 Because you have clothes on which make you weigh more. Also you are heavier in the afternoon than the morning and you cant always go to the dr at the same time. I definatly try not to weigh everyday though which I did at the beginning of my pregnancy. If you are gonna weigh at home though you do need a good scale.
Avatar f tn Thats banking on the fact the subjects actually fasted "pre" the blood being taken lol
1938479 tn?1325705620 I found a BMI calculator that might help more. Keep in mind that if girls in your school and on your social media pages are promoting being thin and acting like anorexia is the "in" thing and are pressuring you that this is a horrible idea and will have profound consequences on their lives as well as anyone they manage to influence. Anorexia is a mental illness. Being thin as a stick is not healthy.
Avatar n tn people revolve around social media and girls all around the world are judging themselves to models, photoshopped models. you are a gorgeous human being and you should strut what you have. live in the now. be confident and happy because that's how you should live life. stay strong. and don't let people bring you down.
Avatar m tn t have near the inflammation needed for that. Vanessa, from The Migraines and Headaches Forum suggests I should have a cervical scan done. On ending my post, I must admit I suffered from Anorexia Nervosa at around the age of ten and began noticing my symptoms a few years later.
Avatar f tn So wrong. The media has great influence over what we consider to be Anorexia. I also heard the model comments too. Well if you keep going this way, you'll be dead. And you can't model then can you? (that's not a mean comment ps. I hope the tone isn't taken the wrong way) For a nurse to say that! I am disgusted. But I have also been to the ER several times, and got the strangest looks from the nurses and dr's when I explained that I have Anorexia and EDNOS.
6811971 tn?1385557755 I'm in the same sort of boat as you! I have recovered from both Anorexia and Bulimia and like yourself I struggle with bloating, and find myself often mistaking the bloating as weight gain. Wow! We are two positive people for this site. Yes everybody. YOU CAN RECOVER FROM AN EATING DISORDER. I had Anorexia aged 16-18, and Bulimia age 18-32. I am now 38 and the idea of being sick is yuck! The thought of overdosing on laxatives is something I wouldn't dream off now.
181575 tn?1250198786 com, an HBV patient site with members in the millions whose threads are upgraded in the seconds! The pain, the suffering, and the unfair treatment of the 10% HBV by the 90% rest will stare at you, yell at you, you can't miss it! Best.
Avatar f tn I think about food litterly from the moment I wake up in the mornings to the minute I drift to sleep at night. Even then I dream about eating too much and hating myself. So to answer your question, there's not really a such thing as mild. I mean there is but mild doesn't last for long. Mild is that VERY short step between healthy and deadly.
Avatar m tn Where is the honor in lying? Where is the responsibility of telling the truth and getting things done right the first time? Why aren't these people who lie or have a hard time being being accurate with what they report terminated? This isn't just about gun issues. Its about everything. The truth is almost impossible to get to these days, and in the matter of 24 hours you can hear the same news person do a complete 180 on the crap they spew.
649848 tn?1534633700 So when coronavirus deaths began to mount across the world, and it became clear that the hopes of limiting community spread in the United States were in vain, it was simply too tempting for Fox News. They played the coronavirus story as they play virtually every other story -- as an indictment of the media and its biases. See, the real story here -- that the mainstream media isn't telling you -- is that this is all overhyped! This is like a cold virus!
1747881 tn?1546175878 It’s always the people inside a bubble who think they’re the ones with an outsider’s perspective on things. The mainstream media fits this profile perfectly. The big name press continue to deny there is anything wrong with the way they do things, or the things they choose to do. NBC’s Chuck Todd, for example, is happy to blame Donald Trump for his profession’s problems and abdicate any responsibility. They all are.
Avatar n tn More than the weight per se is the dramatic weight loss and the behaviors that surround her eating habits, along with the medical worries. Seeking help is not up to her - it's important that you arrange help. Enlist the assistance of her pediatrician in this regard. Serious medical complications, including death, can arise from anorexic behavior and it is mandatory that she be treated.

Avatar f tn why do girls with anorexia stop getting their periods ? what is the link to Kyphosis to anorexia ?
918035 tn?1274644533 hang in there Hun. I've learned the hard way that an eating disorder is no fun. I've also learned that the anxiety over food doesn't always have to do with what you look like. I have come across times of stress like finances or trying to do everything for everybody. I loose all sense of controll and lean on my eating disorder where loosing weight is a great accomplishment. And something I have complete control of. Wehn inactiality we has control of me.
2215229 tn?1339342648 I'm sorry but that's horrible advice! I've had anorexia since I was 14 (and disordered eating since I was 7), I'm now 20. I've seen many friends manage their anorexia and one die from it. Keeping a food diary with everything you eat is a bad idea because it reinforces the obsessive relationship with food, you'll be counting calories and trying to eat smaller portions so it looks better on your log, and feeling horrible about how "much" you've had.
918035 tn?1274644533 The problem is the voice in your head. The second problem is that you listen to the voice in your head which is telling you all the wrong things. You need to sort this out with a profesional..there are many trained to deal with eating disorders with teenagers...your parents or your doctor can help you find the right person. This can be a very serious health risk...see a professional as soon as possible.
Avatar f tn What is your doc suggesting for treatment and why dont you agree?
Avatar f tn t happen over night and doing it right will keep it off longer... With anorexia the second you start to eat your body holds in everything including the fat because it knows you will starve it again. Also when you stop eating your body will start to eat itself (including your muscles). You can do this hun... keep it up and persevere.
Avatar f tn It originates in the mind but it affects the body too, and it can be one of the most difficult things to overcome. I know, because I have been there. My case wasn't as extreme as many, but I have restricted my calories and lost a lot of weight in a short amount of time. In fact, it was during that period that my heart issues started. I would get flutters and arrhthymias and all sorts of scary stuff. It was during recovery, however, that my troubles were at their worst.
5061022 tn?1363018223 I am trying to get away from doing it as I have had it under control for the past year and it was recently triggered again in January. I have been dealing with it since the 8th grade and I am now a college junior....its a constant battle and I hate it....I am trying so hard right now to fight losing weight the right way....I am having a very hard time.....
Avatar n tn Dear kate306, Your gastrointestinal system could definitely be thrown off from your anorexia. Your current anxiety could be the culprit for your diarrhea. Anxiety and Anorexia often go hand in hand. Seeking medical attention for your diarrhea is recommended. Getting to the root of your anxiety and decreasing your anxiety is critical.
