Avatar n tn If so, can you please advice whats the procedure you took and how long did it take you to have regular natural bowel movements and whether you put on any weight? Thankyou...
Avatar n tn Dear Mikaelaroni, Edema, or rebound water retention, and alternating periods of dehydration are usually caused by dieting, vomiting, laxative or diuretic abuse. Often the edema is worst when a person initially ceases vomiting and laxatives abuse completely. Edema can be quite uncomfortable causing a person to return to their destructive behaviors. Your body is trying to seek it’s natural water balance. Patience is needed to get through this tough period.
Avatar f tn To be considered bulimia there needs to be bingeing episodes and compensatory behaviors, such as, vomiting, excessive exercise, laxative abuse, etc. The following is the DSM IV TR criteria for Bulimia Nervosa, purging and nonpurging type: Recurrent episodes of binge eating characterized by both: Eating, in a discrete period of time (e.g.
Avatar n tn A couple weeks ago I was vaccinated with 3 vaccines and then I took a extreme HARDCORE laxative (4 days later after my vaccination) that gave me diarrhea 7 times and which lasted for 7 hours and now I'm wondering if I flushed the dead virus before I was immunized to meningitis, hepatitis A , tdap. -------------------------------------------------------------------- ((Note: I'm not an anorexic, and I studied psychology; I know that anorexic deny their problem.
Avatar f tn What is the best way to help my body to recover from laxative dependency?
1701851 tn?1338085791 If too stressed, etc, I still have a habit of purging, and or restricting. I also admit, I do abuse laxatives, and I have for a long time, off and on. I hate to admit it, but might as well be honest. I can take up to eight-fifteen laxatives a day, (usually just eight though...not that, that makes it any better). If I don't take them, it can be up two a week and half before I can movey bowels, and when I do, I never feel like they have completely emptied.
Avatar f tn A person who is sexual anorexic seeks ways not to combine intimacy with sex. Both men and women can suffer from sexual anorexia. Most individuals who have sexual anorexia silently battle with it. They are often too ashamed or afraid of rejection to talk to their friends and family about it. The concept of "sexual anorexia" was first mentioned by psychologist Nathan Hare in 1975, in an unpublished dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment for a Ph.D.
Avatar n tn I do not purge by vomiting but by laxative abuse, and take anywhere from 75-100 biscodyl tablets daily, and have done so since the 1970's, starting at age 11. I was normal weight (gymnast when young) but gradually my weight has increased, even though I purge every day. I used to binge eat, and still do occasionally, but I think I've messed up my metabolism after all these years, as I will fast for fairly long periods of time, and still not budge on the scale.
Avatar n tn ve been reading about all the symptoms of severe laxative abuse and is this severe bloating related to this being the end of the line for me with laxatives? I've had episodes where I had to eat a lot of tomato sauce because of the potassium to get my heart to calm down. Now, for the first time, after regular use of sennosides (Swiss Kriss), I can't hardly go no matter how many I take.
794656 tn?1237171629 Because laxatives work on the colon and not the stomach all but 12% of the calories ingested are excreted with laxative use. In addition, laxative abuse can cause dehydration, electrolyte imbalances (causing arrhythmias and heart attack), bloating, gas, severe abdominal pain, chronic diarrhea, vomiting and nausea. Avatar m tn HI, There is a mineral that is healthy for you and your body needs it. There are many kinds and the kind you need to make you go to the bathroom regularly is Magnesium Oxide. They are available at most Pharmacies. You only need one pill with dinner. It will work the following morning. It is also a good practice to drink a whole glass of slightly warm water as soon as you wake up in the morning.. before any food. It serves to flush your system and you will go- easily..
Avatar f tn abuse (ED sufferers are at a higher risk for all types of abuse, including physical, emotional and sexual, as well, rape and abuse are the number one cause of eating disorders); suicidal thoughts and actions; low self-esteem; self harm; isolation; aggression; paranoia; psychosis; body dysmorphic disorder; self-hatred; difficultly in relationships; drug abuse and alcoholism; obsessive compulsive disorder; sexual dysfunction; need for psychiatric observation in a locked ward; fear of the opposite
Avatar n tn You will loose water and electrolytes, which can lead to cardiac arrest, arrhytmia and other severe problems that come with laxative abuse, like organ failure. Have fun in the ER. Never, ever abuse laxatives for weight loss.
Avatar f tn First of, I tend to have bad eating habits. When I was younger I was dignosed with EDNOS, and then with anorexia. I would starve myself and purge what I did eat, and I would also abuse laxatives. Lately I have been having those problems again. I'm sure that all isn't helping my other problems. I am constinpated, all the time. Without laxatives, I maybe move my bowls once a week, sometimes longer.
Avatar n tn Psyllium Husk, cascara and senna are all laxatives. Taking an herbal laxative is no different that taking a regular over the counter laxative.
Avatar n tn What worries me is that the person maybe has a serious eating disorder - just a thought and if this is the case this problem needs handling kindly and quietly. Laxative abuse and diretic abuse (pills that make you want to pee very ungently) are common with certain eating disorders, hence the dirty bathroom. Obviously food going missing or being somehow ''played with or hacked about'' is also a trait of eating disorders.
Avatar n tn There are many other causes like worms in stool, depression, anorexia nervosa, AIDS, cancers especially colon cancers, drug abuse, infections and loss of appetite. Loss of appetite can again be due to certain medications, drug abuse, depression, AIDS, acute and chronic infections, cancers and hypothyroidism. Either you do not eat well or there is increased metabolism as in hyperthyroid states, HIV, cancer etc.

Laxative abuse and vomiting can cause electrolyte imbalances that in turn can cause heart attacks and lack of oxygen to the brain. You are young and have your whole life ahead of you. Whether you know it or not, your children are unconsciously and consciously picking up on your struggle. If not for yourself, for your husband and children seek help. If possible, seek eating disorder specialists.
Avatar n tn Loss of appetite can again be due to certain medications, drug abuse, depression, AIDS, acute and chronic infections, cancers and hypothyroidism. Either your mother does not eat well or there is increased metabolism as in hyperthyroid states, HIV, cancer etc. Poor absorption as in irritable bowel syndromes and malabsorption syndromes too is possible. Malabsorption syndromes are seen in intestinal tuberculosis, HIV, tropical sprue, parasites in stool and Whipple’s Disease.

179856 tn?1333547362 I was just reading about Portia DeRossi's anorexia and it says when she was down to 82 pounds she "was told she was suffering from a handful of serious conditions: osteoporosis, organ failure, cirrhosis of the liver and the auto-immune disease lupus." how would anorexia cause cirrhosis does anybody know? I'm just curious because I never heard of that before and was wondering how it was related.
Avatar m tn I had anorexia and bulimia for 28 years and honestly there is nothing you can do to make her want to recover. She has to get there herself. You can, however, refuse to participate in her disorder. If she asks you is she looks fat/thin/whatever, refuse to say. don't talk about her weight. Don't talk about food with her. don't buy her laxatives bc yes, she can become addicted to them and they can cause all kinds of problems.
Avatar n tn Hence fasting blood sugar and blood sugar two hours after meal should be tested. Yes, drug abuse is a possibility and blood tests are needed to rule that out. There are many other causes of unexplained weight loss like worms in stool, depression, anorexia nervosa, AIDS, cancers especially colon cancers, drug abuse, infections and loss of appetite.
