Ammonia smelling cat urine

Common Questions and Answers about Ammonia smelling cat urine

ammonia

I have had a problem with smelling like ammonia when I exercise. It is usually not until I get really warm that this happens. I've read conflicting info on this, saying I don't eat enough ( I do) or that I have too much protein or not enough protein. No matter what I do to my eating habits, it still happens. I also am not overtraining - sometimes I smell this after 10 minutes of exercise. I am overwright but consider myself athletic. I can smell the ammonia in my nose and on my breath.
Does anyone know what makes the guinea pig's urine smell so much like ammonia? I can't stand the smell, I'm so sensitive to it. I feed her pellets, apples, lettuce, celery,.....maybe something is more contributing?
As far as the inappropriate urination, make sure you clean up the area so the smell of the urine doesn't remain (don't use ammonia). The cat will continue to be attracted to these places. One thing you should seriously consider is a veterianarian visit to rule out any physical reasons that your cat might be missing her litter box.
But it is possible that qricket missed some subtle specific locus for the origin of the odor. generally, an ammonia type smell from a cat is indicative of some sort of kidney malfunction and a strangely sweet smell (hard to describe this one) can indicate a sugar overload (diabetes). Of course, a person/ cat will often have that "sick smell" when they just have a bad cold or flu.
Regular detergents and other cleaners will not break down the urine or feces, and if the cat smells any urine or feces on a carpet or floor, the cat may continue to use that spot to eliminate. In some cases, the carpet or carpet padding may need to be replaced. Clean the litter boxes at least once daily. Wash the litter box weekly. Do not clean the box with a strong smelling disinfectant, but rinse the box well after washing it. Feed the cat where she is inappropriately eliminating.
Smells like feces and urine (cat **** or ammonia smell). Crack kills blood cells and they come out in the urine which makes it darker and stinky. The stink also comes through the pores. It is made worse by an accelerated sweating and sometimes lack of hygiene. One of my buddies is a crackhead and he can't smell it on himself.
I have cats & kittens with coccidia. I keep treating with Albon & they keep getting re-infected. My vet is unfamoiliar with Ponazuril, so if you can tell me what dosage you use on your cats & kittens, I will be very grateful. Thank you for your time.
He also seems to be losing weight and he urinates, frequently and unfortunately, on the carpets and not the litter box. It smells strongly of ammonia. When he is sleeping, I notice his breathing seems labored, like he's out of breath even when asleep. Any ideas what's going on here? I have a vet visit coming up and I'd like to know what is the best thing to do. If its diabetes or kidney problems, to treat it or just have the cat euthanized?
Oh and when can i get her fixed cause her urine is starting to get the ammonia smell and im not liking it too much.
I take many meds and vitamins, but the terrible odor of my urine just started the day after my first dose of 50mg Januvia. My urine smells worse than my cat's and very similar, ammonia perhaps? I'm going to mention it to my Diabetic educator and doctor and see what they say.
not really cuz the smell was urine which smells like ammonia. Leaking amniotic fluid is continuous from what I understand and I didnt have that. I had my ultrasound last week to check levels and cord etc... All is well!
Took my cat to vet a few weeks back due to her drinking excessive amounts of water and noticed her urine smelled stronger of ammonia.. UA showed no bacteria, and no, a culture was not sent in.Vet then suggested a thyroid profile and called the next day to say it was "normal", as was her blood glucose level of 101. Vet then suggested a 10 day round of Amoxi-drops as she thought perhaps my cat may be trying to fight off a bladder infection.
I suspected that one of them wasn't using the litter box, which is in the basement, because I could smell cat urine in the basement even when the cat box was clean. I saw our younger cat who is 5 yrs back up to my sons guitar and wiggle his tail....he sprayed . What would cause a neutered male to start spraying? How do I break him of it? I think I'll take him to the vet for a check up and urinalysis. How do you get a urine sample from a cat anyhow?
Aftr she has been spayed (or sooner) your friend will need to get the urine smell out of the carpet, or kitty will keep thinking its her litter box and use. A product the Vets on this forum have recommended is 'urine off' avail at pet stores. Vinegar/ammonia solutions do not remove the scent. good for you trying to solve kitties problems, its not fair to kitties to be given to a shelter when its often we humans that need to be more informed.
and you have to use a cleaner w/an enzyme in it to get rid of the ammonia, etc, so your cat can't smell the urine any more and continue to want to use the same areas. What also was occurring in this episode was this cat felt she had no area of her own-make sure your cat has her own "territory" w/ her own climbing toys, window look-outs, etc, and adequate litter pans-esp in the offending area. Of course the vet visit to rule out any health visits, too!!
People who have compromised immune systems need to be extremely careful living around cats. Cats can be dangerous to her health. As far as the smells go, people with liver issues have an increased sensitivity to fumes. She should not even clean the litter box, if she does she needs to wear gloves and be very careful. I was told to stay away from cats altogether. I dont have one but my neighbor does and I got a cat related infection from someone else's cat believe it or not.
Certain kinds of bad bacteria can produce a lot of ammonia, mercaptans, and sulfur-containing compounds that smell strangely like that cat urnine smell of boxwoods (my apologies if you're one of those people who thinks boxwoods smell nice).
abnormal low levels of phosphorus indicate dietary imbalance, Diabetes or overactive parathyroid gland. low levels of blood urea nitrogen can indicate liver disease or starvation.. I am not saying that possibly you ran across something that has actually "cured" your cat but as we all know if your cat has Renal failure there is no cure only things we can give them to help and to slow down progression..
i'm not sure yet what that means. i should have my blood work results soon. *does your urine smell like ammonia? mine did, almost caustic, it smelt like that foul urine right before a yeast infection. even though I drink gallons of water because of all the meds i take. (i'm affriad of getting a kidney, liver etc. infection). oh, my back is very itchy in one spot, the lower left side. my kids had to use a boar bristle brush for me to get some satisfaction.
He doesn't like to go into the city, since he smells the urine in the street. If i need to give further examples I will happily do so. His heightened sense of smell is affecting his life. He would much rather be normal. He works in sales, and if a client has halatosis or bad body odor he really suffers. We live near the interstate, and depending on teh direction of the wind he gets sick sometimes from the smell of the asphalt/tires/cars on the freeway.
If the dog is inside the home, why is nobody else helping to clean up after him? Does your MIL live in the same quarters as the dog? The ammonia from urine and the bacteria from the feces are extremely unhealthy for anyone living in that situation. If your MIL is unable to care for herself, charges of elder abuse are a possibility you need to be aware of. You're the only one who knows the reality of the situation and please don't think I'm accusing you of anything.
It could smell like dog-poop, old cheese, ammonia, a burning smell, etc. The smell comes on, often, as a result of a cold or sinus infection. Some, not all, of these smells are caused by an anaerobic bacteria thriving in the upper sinuses, and I was able to remove mine with a Flip-Turn Sinus Flush, and many other people have had success with it as well. I have already mentioned this in the earlier part of this journal, with a solution. 2.
Cute as they are babies have an odor of their own and sometimes they stink! They bring the smell of urine and feces into the house with all those diapers, diaper pails and leaking diaper accidents. Since you've already been through that housetraining routine with the dog, all these new "stinky" odors may have your dog thinking, "Well, if he can do it, why not me?" You should think of introducing a faint urine smell occasionally. How to do that? With ammonia.
